    I used to not care about this as much, but as someone who commutes every day I get extremely pissed off now. When someone in front of me jumps the gates, I will not move over for them. I really don't care if I bump into them because they don't deserve my respect. I would laugh if they tripped while trying to jump the gates.

    The reason why past enforcement was targeting neighborhoods with a lot of young black men it's because those same neighborhoods had extremely high rates of crime and were the top areas of fare evasion throughout the entire metro system. Go figure.

      @Itz_Thermite By all means, hand them your wallet, invite them into your home. The highest number of Asian attack hate crimes in the DC area were by young black men. I am sure they would love to meet you.

    I remember seeing a fare-jumper at Tysons corner. I feel like the only way to stop them is by replacing gates with tall sliding glass doors that would electrically slide open when you scan your SmarTrip card. That'd be really expensive, though, and it might look uninviting or ugly.

    Yeah that's terrible, everyone does need to pay for the Metro fares, it's very expensive to run and operate a Metro system throughout Washington DC, if it was me and if I didn't have the money I would have never attempt to jump a fair gate,

    I think Metro should find a way to implement taller fare gates into their stations to help prevent this.

    It's the same in the UK . People are always pushing through barriers and dodging fares and the railway companies do nothing .

    I rode metro for week and payed because car was down. And I was surprise when I saw groups of people getting on bus and metro not paying. Need to really crack down on it. It has become the law of the streets now. That why it's so much crime.

    how do we stop people who closely walk behind to not "jump" but "squeeze in" and the conflicts that unintenally rise from better stalls? could we temporary ban stall jumpers so its people with a track record of jumping.

      I would turn around, push them back, and tell the authorities they came up behind me and tried to grab me. A few felony assault convictions would end that practice real quick.

    In 1976, the offenders who committed fare evasion were not given warnings. They were issued citations or make debut appearances to court. I am from New York [City], and fare evasion on its subway system has been going out of style like wildfire. The fine for fare evasion in District of Columbia may as well be $100.00 for the first offense. Then $150.00 for the second or more offenses. But Metrobus must be carefully watched because fare evasion there is wildly out of control. Washingtonians, Marylanders and Virginians are not ready for the newly extended Silver Line opening.

    I meant to add to my comment, I've watched other videos of transit systems throughout the United States, they should try and experiment or use the gate type or the saloon type automatic Gates that open after they tap a smart card, the automated fare Gates that's used on the Atlanta Marta system seems to be a little bit more secure and yet you would have to really crawl under and it's not easy to jump at all because they're about 5 ft tall I see it on the videos it's the Atlanta Marta fare Gates Washington Metro needs to give that a try to help cut down on fairgate jumping

    • @zekeigtos7240
      @zekeigtos7240 Год назад

      I'm certain if they adopt those types of saloon doors we WILL have people crawling under them.

    Was this an issue in the 80’s and 90’s? Not as much. Put all the new technology but it won’t make any difference. The real issue here is the decay in parenting and instilling morals, ethics, and values in our youth.

    I will have to call bs💩 you dont need fares you can set up a budget from state taxes thats how trimet does it in Portland and they have one of the best public transit systems in the country.
