Back in (fall)1970, my 6th grade class spent a week at Grant life science center in Centerville , OHIO. In my class was Mike Donahue, son of Phil. The school had parents to volunteer as chaperons. On one or two nights, Phil spent the night with us boys. I vividly remember one morning when I felt a shake and was face to face with ole Phil. He had all black hair back then.
I also knew his younger son Mark. We were in high school when the family left to go to Chicago. Phil would later do a show at my middle school in Centerville.
BTW, Centerville H.S. has the 3rd largest H.S. population in the state of OHIO. Centerville,,,home of the best donuts in the country,,,"Bill's donuts!"

I first saw Phil Donahue on TV in 1972,while visiting a cousin in Xenia ,Oh. He was a local host from Dayton/Columbus( I forgot which). It was a surprise when he showed up on Chicago TV.

I had a Atari 2600 in the summer of 1987 when i finally got my hands on a new Nintendo. I remember it was $99.99 at Hills department store and my dad, my brother and i teamed up on my mom to get it, we got it. That entire summer we had a stream of kids coming in and out playing rounds of Mario, but we always went back outside, it was the 80's afterall. The next year almost every kid in town had one so everyone played at their own houses, but we all visited and traded games. The 80's were the best man.

Why am I looking at an old ad for Nintendo?

Believe me watching a Nintendo ad beats any of the nonsense on Donahue. The exception of course occurred when he had WFB as a guest .

Just here because of the video thumbnail showing this ad. I had that Max Joystick, and it was really a good one back in the day. I liked that style sliding inner ring D-PAD for a number of games. Especially controlling characters, were you're constantly pushing forward to run, then angle upwards to shoot, etc (like Contra). Wasn't great for games like Tetris though. Eventually I gutted it and wired an Atari style wire to it and used it with my Amiga.

I remember having the Advantage Joystick and being disappointed with it.

@@HopyHop1 For me it really depended on the game. Contra was about the perfect game for it, because you could go from forward to diagonally up to shoot up while running.

Phil Donahue was a class act when it comes to talk shows.
    No one came close.
