- Hi guys! This week we're talking about one of the three new pets that I recently got, a juvenile leopard gecko that I named Winter. I explain how I got him in the first few minutes, then we set up his new 20g long tank.

I joined a gecko group on Facebook when I brought home Sirius on oct 28/19 and with in days someone saw an add on minimizing someone needing to get rid of a new gecko they got for there kid. So after pondering a week I looked into it and a few days later brought stitch home she was not cared for properly, but is much better now. But I’m still learning too, as this is my first summer with my babies, going to get additional supplies as we speak to counter act humidity and air conditioner.
Thanks for the build. I upgraded my juveniles tank to a 20 gallon tank and used your ideas. He is in heaven with the elaborate build. He is smiling now!

Hi Elle! Sorry if this has already been answered before: How do you go about cleaning and disinfecting your DIY hides and backgrounds? I really like them, but I'm wondering if you have any issues with the foam material crumbling or melting when scrubbing/using cleaning products.

Hi! Just wondering what kind of tape you were using for the heat pad? Mine is still heating fine, but not adhering, and I’ve been afraid of putting anything other than electrical tape on it.

I've been going through a few videos and can't seem to find it, what kind of tile do you use in these tile setups? I'm starting to upgrade my beardies container with tile as part of the base. I had no idea how many different kinds of tile there was until I started shopping around.
I actually just got a leopard gecko off craigslist and that is why I watched your video lol
I wish I could find more reptile breeders near me, but I live in an area where that's not as big of a thing as other areas. But we still have reptile shows pretty often, hopefully I'll go to one soon and I can do a video like yours. 😎👍 you are an inspiration & I hope to have an animalic family like yours one day!

That looks beautiful! Can you do a video on why substrate is bad for leopard geckos or what is any substrate is good for them. If you have already made this a link would do lol
I don't think I've ever actually done a video on it, but I've talked about it in a couple other leopard gecko videos. I don't think substrate is bad - my other leo has a permanent dig box and was on a bioactive setup for a while. But I definitely think picking the correct substrate is important (I recommend Terra Sahara by TheBioDude or Arcadia EarthMix Arid if you can get it), as well as making sure your temperatures/humidity and everything are always correct if you do.

I think the first leopard gecko is a bell albino which is albino with a bit of pale colour :)

Btw, I noticed u mentioned he had a red lightbulb, is that type of bulb, not good for a leopard gecko? Because I have that for mine, and if it's not ideal for a leo, I'd love to know so I can change it to a better one for my gecko.

hello! i just got my leopard gecko about a week ago and she’s 6 months old. i have a food bowl, calcium bowl, and water bowl in her tank but i can’t tell if she’s drinking or not cause the water level isn’t dropping and she barely wants to eat when i try to feed her. the breeder i got her from is awful cause her tail is super thin and her body barely has any fat on it. what should i do
She’s drinking when you’re not looking. Is she eating yet? What’s her setup? What’s the basking spot temperature and how is it being measured (analog thermometer, digital, or temperature gun)? It may be a good idea to get her checked out at an exotic vet just to make sure she doesn’t have any underlying health issues.
What kind of foam do you use

I am guessing with the UV that you arent giving d3? Cant having both cause an over dose? I am still learning lol
Yes. 😊 Right now there's a vitamin powder in his bowl, but I keep a little bottle cap lid of calcium without D3 in there. I do put calcium with D3 on his bugs occasionally, as he's only out at night and doesn't really hang out in the light.

Ok so I use his UVB light for night time and his regular light for day time, is that something I should be doing?
You dont need to use any light at night time (especially not if it's one of the red one as those can hurt their eyes). I use a UVB light in the day, as UV light has shown to be beneficial for them 😊

Hi Ellie I have 2 geckos both were adoptions my older one is fantastic her names pretty girl. They had her on sand.. I switched her up and put her in a 25 gallon and use a heating pad and I use tiles and a uvb light. About 6 months later I switched jobs and a customer came in and I brought 5 GECKOS in all in the same tank. 4 males 1 female... I took her home and she is terrified of everything I've tried working with her first by talkimg to her and handling her. She has her good days and bad days where she will scream and hiss at me. Ive tried everything she is very food motivated and now she has some color to her. Her name is ghost. How did you work with yours and help her to adjust and really come out of her shell. I dont want to keep stressing her out but I want her to be as happy as I can make her and give her the best life :) becuase I love her so much. Please let me know thank you.
I've just been super patient with him. For the first week I left him completely alone. I only briefly opened his tank to get him food/water or to clean poop (even that was stressful for him though). Then I just slowly increased the amount of time his tank was open. I also made sure (and still make sure) to put my hand in the tank where he can see it. This originally resulted in him biting me a lot haha. But then he started to realize that I'm not going to hurt him. He still cautiously approaches my hand, but now he'll just lick me and watch as I put his food in his bowl.
If yours food motivated, I suggest trying to hand feed bugs, as this is a big "you can trust me" to them. It may help to do this right after her lights go off, too.
It sounds like she was in a terrible situation 😔. So it's definitely going to take a little while for her to trust people again.
But do you grout the inside?? Because I’m seeing in the video that it’s not
I didn't for this one, since it's in a dry tank, but I do for hides that will be in humid tanks

So I live in Alabama and no one around me has experience with reptiles (or even likes reptiles), that I know of, and I really want a leopard gecko. Do you know of any websites or companies that care for reptiles?
Same! I've only met a handful of people here that are into reptiles. What do you mean by care for them? Like a rescue? During vacation? I'm not sure where in Alabama you are, but there's an exotic animal store in Madison, Alabama called Animal Trax that I trust, and they recently started offering pet sitting services. They also sell reptiles and often have leopard geckos.
Elle's Reptiles sorry I should have been more specific😂 like someone to take care of them when I go on vacation. I have someone who takes care of my crested Gecko, but she isn’t comfortable with feeding insects. So I’m just trying to be proactive and figure it out before I get a leopard gecko or anything really that needs to eat live.

It will! But you have to make sure to change it often, because wet paper towel in a dark place will grow mold if you're not changing it often.
Ok so would every 2-3 days work or should I do it every day? Also with spagnum moss how often do you change it

Its the same here in Canada except we have kijiji always see sad reptile babies as you seen in Emma Sampson’s last video if she wouldnt of got that crested gecko I would of

Oh the only thing I can say is always check the styrofoam background Bec I have that exo-terra tank and ended up taking the foam out BECAUSE!!! THE WORMS AND CRICKETS LODGE THEMSELVES IN THE FOAM! ITS TERRIBLE!

Just because it was eaten by her cat doesn’t mean it was treated poorly. When a cat becomes super locked in on a prey animal it’s nearly impossible to move it’s focus to anything else. I’ve lost a gecko to my Savannah cat in the past and I was heart broken. I’ve since taken EXTRA precautions to protect my geckos but all ordinary measures were taken before then and my cat was just insanely determined to get to my poor Lo. May she Rest In Peace.

i have a albino leopard gecko
When I went to go get my leo for the first time my cousin, who claims to have been an expert, said to get the exact opposite of what I've heard from people on RUclips, like how sand ls the best substrate, and how I only need two hides because a mossy hide isn't necessary, and you only need a 10 gallon tank and nothing bigger for fully grown ones. her gecko only lived for 5 years... Sooo 😶. Correct me if I'm wrong, just trynna be a good lizard mom 😅
So reptile care is always changing. Years ago, people thought all of the things your cousin told you, but as people kept leopard geckos over time, they realized better ways of keeping them. Better ways of keeping them = them living much longer. So basically sand and 10g tanks is very outdated information, and are now things we know to avoid.
No sand. 20g long minimum. And definitely 3 hides. Good job doing your research! 😊

It’s not the best to have a uv light for your leopard gecko
While not necessary to survive, leopard geckos actually do benefit from UV lighting. It used to be thought that they were nocturnal and didn't need it, but leopard geckos are a crepuscular species, meaning they are most active during the dawn and dusk. So, in the wild, they would be exposed to a little bit of sun during these times in order to create their own D3. (And they're great at it!)
Also, adding a small UV light has proven to make for a more active/alert leopard gecko. 😊
