Upside has gone to crap. They have dropped every place I usually used it at (BK, Wendys and ALL grocery stores) and I live in Minneapolis, so there are plenty of places around that it could offer cashback from. None of the gas discounts are better than the prices available from Costco or Sams Club without cashback. Almost every restaurant is only 5% or less cashback now. (Mostly less) 2/3rds of their discount places now are Starbucks which is a whopping 3%. I used to use the cashback multiple times weekly, but haven't for weeks now unless there was some sort of extra incentive.

maybe we are thinking about this all wrong, maybe we should allow Amazon to make this big mistake and fail, and when we allow them to fail, perhaps the rights to this franchise could be sold to another studio...
but at the same time, the kind of potential stargate show with Amazon money is very tempting, but it loses it's tempting appeal when they keep swatting brad wrights already created script when Amazons writers have nothing to show for it, and the fact that i don't trust Amazon because they are shady as fuck as a company, it's hard to think about going this way.

this is why they don't care if the show bombs in most cases, because they only care about their propaganda being viewed by a larger audience.
i mean how many shows within the last decade have gone woke and shortly after gone broke?
i have lost count honestly, and it's within every genre of the entertainment industry that we keep seeing these shows and movies fail because wokeness is not as popular as twitter wants people to believe, besides twitter is mostly bots anyway thanks to Elon letting everyone know, i think he said the platform is 85% bots.

Amazon needs Brad Wright as a consultant to get it right! After watching what Amazon has done to Lord of Rings: Rings of Power, they have decided to create mostly new content and new characters than what has gone before on Rings of Power created to their own whims. Fans audience scores on Rotten Tomatoes has not been favorable at about 39% enjoyment. Critics gave it 85 percent, however these critics might be swayed to review favorably just to get access to early viewings of shows and would want to be nice to Amazon to stay on their early access list. Not sure how far they might botch a Stargate new series and create new characters but we will have to wait and see. Rings of Power and Wheel of Time are only moderately okay but not great! They are lacking in some things like great character building.

Here are examples to go by: When I was little in the late 70s early 80s the new Bugs Bunny cartoons were not as good as the old ones. Even as a little kid I noticed the "fresher look" was not as good.
I have a milennial sister. As the years went on she began complaining (still a child) that Spongebob was going down in quality because it was getting faster and faster. 13yrs old "It's so fast now!."
Scooby Doo. When Scrappy came and it got a bit more 80s refreshed it was noticeably less groovy.
Even young people know, stick with the TONE and PACE that made it magical. Stop "updating" things in the wrong ways. To avoid the wrong ways, keep the original people if you have that option. Let THEM decide how to refresh it. I almost guarantee, they won't mess with TONE and PACE. (ok SG Universe but... what can I say? They seemed pressured to be Battlestar G).
Swapping in new people isn't the answer. By now we can confidently say it is an amateur mistake to swap in new people when the original peopem are both available and always gave quality before.

Amazon is setting a bad president on many areas. The Rings of Crap may be the most visible. Recently the credits I earned by allowing delayed shipment got changed. It used to be you could use for example $12.00 of "No Rush" credits in one pop for a Audible books or item. Not now you can only use what was earned "PER Order" per purchase. $1.00 on a order is all you can claim. A larger order may have $3.00. That makes it a total NO going forward. Sort of HELL NO from me. I had $31.00 in no Rush credits. I am not a happy and I am starting to consider not being Prime user much longer. I still fell the pain of the now doubled Prime cost from just a few years ago.

ok there is a difference between the forced woke stuff nowadays than what it was in the past, nowadays they want you to believe that these people dominate society, but in reality they are a minority.
but this also includes the LGBTQ people, every show, movie, video game are trying to force viewers to watch these people invade the space of good shows movies and video games as it they were the majority of the population, which they are not even near at this point.
but they still try to force it down like there's no tomorrow.
you got to understand the wokeness that was already in the show back in the day was so subtle in comparison to what it is now and back then it was done organically, but now that they are just adding people to the list just because they are trying to follow a race and gender quota, checking the boxes, and it in most cases has nothing to do with the overall story of the show, they just decided that for their check box reasons it made sense to them that they should add in 10 gay guys just because that's what the quota called for.
they fuck with the lore the writing and the story when they make productions like this, it's almost as stupid as writing a show using an AI. sure the AI might come up with some cool looking art, but the story is a complete mess of random elements simply because they wanted to infuse identity politics into the production.
forced wokeness in todays world is a weakness when it comes to writing a good story, and this is why they purchase popular franchises to get people to view these shows within this new ideology they are trying to force onto regular people who just want good entertainment.
they have tried to make their own shows, but they are in most cases creativity bankrupt and it's just easier to purchase known popular franchises and infuse their politics into the show, because this way it's somehow easier to get people to purchase their product and also get their agenda driven propaganda across to the masses as much as possible.

Very problematic. On one hand amazon said LOR will determine amazons VOD future, as well as amazon displaying this behavior for some time now. On the other hand, deals like this stargate licensing are not done overnight. On the other hand, again amazon VOD is not known to listen to its viewers and on the other other hand again this is developing into an desaster to happen.
We are so focused on what we "want" that i fear that anything less, will be viewed so critically by the "core" fandom (even if it will be good) that it will cause a schism among fans and will result in a "good" new stargate to be canceled because it is not "what we wanted".

The mass market fan base never fully embraced SG-U's attempt to mature the franchise from military adventure comedy toward harder science fiction drama. Amazon has an opportunity now to address that with a fresh new show without the worry about arguable conflicts over IP. Instead a brand new science fiction franchise could be started based on the Robert Doherty _Area 51_ books which took another path in blending history and mythology with alien visitation and conflict. As a bonus this could have the grounded air of shows like The Expanse to help draw audiences back from the abyss of fantasy soaps we've been getting lately. Humanity went to the Moon once, and we didn't do it riding broomsticks with big hairy feet.

    • @user-jc6pe2bp1y
      @user-jc6pe2bp1y 2 года назад

I agree that the new BSG was good, but don’t agree this is a reason why a new “start from scratch” Stargate would be a good idea and this is some of my reasoning:
BSG was done before before streaming services took off and its original run was from the 70s, pre-modern day special effects. Stargate is from the 90s and known for its special effects. Think Terminator 2 - this is the he period where special effects became real - the morphing algorithm of the terminator was a game changer. The fresh new BSG benefited from this, Stargate will not - it had modern day special effects.
The original BSG was released long before the internet became accessible commercially too. Computers were mostly terminal, prompt-based machines in the 70s/early 80s and still not part of the average household. The Stargate movie was released at the start of the World Wide Web, and the tv shows after most computers had started to use graphical user interfaces. Home computers where more accessible to at that time but nothing like today where we walk around with mobile devices in our hands. Getting this Stargate alien technology to work from that period in time (1990s) using that equipment was much more impressive that some tech guru today looking it up on google for a “fresh new” Stargate.
A character in BSG called Starbuck was male in the original but female in the new series. How would you feel about Samantha Carter being used as a political device, were they would now be Samuel Carter - the non binary genius who worked on the Stargate and should have been on the original mission in the movie? Not the same show? In fact no longer a show that has the same marketable audience reach as the original storyline.
This is why I believe the show needs to be continued without changing the existing materials, build on from them using existing characters a as different adding new ones instead of throwing them out and starting from scratch

Normally I do not have an issue with new creators taking over old franchise. I actually like the modern Treks, for example, and they are more successful now than they have ever been (since we have 5 shows in active production, and a 6th about to start production, and a movie in production), and franchise need to evolve and change or they die (see 90s Trek, which was great, until Voyager and Enterprise just repeated a lot of stuff already done, and did not evolve the formula at all). That being said, your point regarding our darker times, and needing a light, fun franchise, is solid. I would prefer Brad Wright to return for that reason alone. I am not that worried about Amazon, they did do 3 seasons of The Expanse, and that is amazing.
