To me, Tortured Poets doesn't feel like she wrote it for radio, or for critics. It just feels like her pouring out all the pieces of her soul for her own catharsis. I love the lyricism but a lot of it is going to go over people's heads because they don't know what it is she's writing about. I like most of the songs, a few are absolute masterpieces, but 31 is too many to listen to and actually comprehend in one go.
TS is such a prolific songwriter that she does not need to put out a double album for more click streaming. She does it bc she constantly writes songs and she shares it with her fans. Actually, fm a business point of view it would have been more profitable for her to release the second half, the anthology, a few months fm now like she did with folklore and evermore, but she chose to do it a few hours fm each other like she did it for Midnights
IF YOU CAME HERE FOR PART TWO, there isn’t one. You have to be a paying member. Too much shade in the comments. If you’re just a hater or blowing back what the Matt’s are saying, just shut up. If you don’t like the lyrics or the music, then say specifically what is wrong instead of just blowing smoke up our asses.
We only stream on Twitch for our album reactions, so we don’t have a set schedule for that. We’ll be listening to the second half of The Tortured Poets Department tomorrow, 4/22 at 6:30pm PST! However, we live stream our podcast recording here on RUclips every Sunday at 6:30pm PST! -Steele
The problem with saying take the best off album 1, 2, 3 and making 1 shorter album is that everyone has a different idea of which songs are the best. I really love TTPD but it is a lot and the lyrics are rough so they can drain.
Honestly, it took me 3 whole listens to fully appreciate 'The Tortured Poets Department' (the STANDARD edition - NO bonus tracks - have NOT listened to those yet!! 😂). I really love it...I do prefer it to even 1989 (that album sounded a bit too happy and poppy) ...I love a good album full of complex themes, drama, hidden / double meanings, etc. That's my thing. 😂For context, I'm really intro progressive rock, the Blues, etc. Love bands like Rush, Queen, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Nirvana, The Black Keys, etc. I began noticing Taylor's music only after 'Anti-Hero' came out. I really, really enjoyed this album to be honest ❤ Midnights was also really good!
The problem for me with Taylor Swift is her producers and co writers, not enough people and the same ones from when she started, specially Jack Antonoff, they are setting her back. She needs more people to help her diversify her music, it all sounds the same and the lyrice sound like a teen writing fanfiction or a diary. I was a huge fan when she started but her latest albums I just feel disconnected, like I'm not the audience. Also so many songs about Matty Healy should be illegal and have a trigger.
She has that Prince thing where she is so prolific and has nobody around her telling her that not everything needs to be recorded or put out. That was one of Prince's big issues with Warners is his desire to flood the market with too many B-C+ tracks.
The “second half” (they’re bonus tracks, fight me lol) of Tortured Poets feels like that rumored third album in the Folklore/Evermore era. They’re good songs but don’t fit sonically with the actual album. I totally agree that releasing 31 songs kind of takes away from the album itself (which also could have benefited from editing). Taylor has never been good at cutting things down. I am a big fan but this feels like a cash grab.
I agree. Honestly would’ve preferred if she released the anthology as a standalone album (TS 12) rather than as a deluxe. One album for the charts and one album for the arts
@@markm4123she didn't because it would have ended up getting evermore treatment, which failed commercially after folklore's massive success. It overshadowed evermore. Which is why since Midnights, she is releasing Side B too
@@saakshishetty7786 Did Evermore fail commercially? I’m looking at the numbers right now and they’re pretty impressive. It was the best selling cd/vinyl of 2021.
@@saakshishetty7786 evermore didn’t fail commercially lol, it just didn’t achieve the status as some of her other albums. evermore is on par with a lot of main stream artists like Beyonce, Olivia, Billie, and Ariana.
This is probably the worst album of this year. Taylor really needs to take a break and not put out horrible albums like this. She is just hungry to stay relevant and get streams itseems like. That Jack Antonoff guy really need to back off from her. He is really making her discography unbearable.
I'm not even a fan of hers, I casually listen to her & I'm able to tell you that you completely missed the point of the album lol She posted on her ig: "The Tortured Poets Department. An anthology of new works that reflect events, opinions and sentiments from a fleeting and fatalistic moment in time - one that was both sensational and sorrowful in equal measure. This period of the author's life is now over, the chapter closed and boarded up. There is nothing to avenge, no scores to settle once wounds have healed. And upon further reflection, a good number of them turned out to be self-inflicted. This writer is of the firm belief that our tears become holy in the form of ink on a page. Once we have spoken our saddest story, we can be free of it." She literally wrote this album for herself because it helped her heal, not because she was going for the charts/streams or whatever. She posted this album because she believes that by speaking her saddest story, she can finally be free of it. She said, I'm all healed now & I want this all out & in the past. She said, I'm passing this story to you because it's no longer my story. If you don't like the album, don't listen to it. It's as simple as that. There's no need to be a hater when you didn't even try to understand the point of TTPD.
That album is too boring! So many filler songs. A lot of songs sound the same. I'm sick of Jack's production now. Time to switch producers girlie! Not a fan of folklore and evermore as well 😂

Stop throwing away the word ‘masterpiece’ for nothing, you just look dumb and uncultured.

TTPD has separated OG Swifties from the eras tour "fans" who now like her because it's the "it" thing to do
i LOVE never need me. i CANNOT WAIT for that album!!

Wow i watched another of your TTPD videos and you seemed to love it
omg Rachel Chinouriri mention!!!!!!😭💗 Matt Palmer you have to dive into her discography 🥹
31 songs is like killers of the flower moon 3 hours 26 minutes, at some point the audience gets a say respectfully
Well Killers of the flower moon didn't put me to sleep out of boredom and ttpd did
Whereis the album review?!
a gardenia stan that kinda makes up for all the folkmore hating
