She runs her fingers through her hair after running them through the mealworms bin. That's dedication.

What type of chicken food do you use? I've bred meal worms and super worms for a few years now and have always used oat meal. I'm allergic to oat meal (I can eat it i'm more allergic to the dust it produces when it isn't mixed with water) and have a hard time cleaning out the bug bins. I think chicken food would be a great alternative!

I see this is a year old, but I still just wanted to leave a comment just in case you may still see it or if someone else has this issue and reads this.
Anyway, I was going to ask if maybe you were actually allergic to the meal worms themselves? As that is a very common issue when breeding them, where people develope an allergy to the worms. I believe it is the frass or feces of the worms that ends up airborne when substrateis disturbed and we breathe it in. It is advised to wear a mask when doing any maintenance and collection so you're not breathing in the dust created by the meal worms and bedding. Either way, the chicken feed produces just as much, if not more dust as the oats and some other bedding. If you're wanting a bedding that produces the least amount of dust, I use uncooked rice. I have been using it for the last 4 years and have not gone back since. It is still a good idea to wear a mask when doing maintenance since there will still be their fras and dust from shed skins. Better safe than sorry. Anyway, good luck! I hope you have a great day!

Be careful of the lettuce, it's basically all water and it only takes a little to produce a mold which kills them.
You want everything very, very dry.

Every time I try to breed them I get grain mites tons of little white bugs you can barely see and I’m not having that do you have issues with that? I’ve train everything to baking the grains at high temperatures and they still are there when I start over 🤷🏼‍♂️
