i've used zorin OS core as my daily driver for about 3 years now, it's been extremely stable and it was perfect for a beginner like me in 2018. the only reason I see to buy zorin os is as a donation to the devs
A lot of people dont get thet those 40$ are really a donation to the team. They acknowledge that.
Same thing with elementaryOS
@@fedup6127 I totally agree with you, especially considering that sometiemes that software they develop is what helps you make money in the first place.
@@sohn7767 elementary os ugly tho
They should be giving people real support. Actually scratch that, their system is so darn stable they wouldn't make a penny with support xD
They should change it to arch
And then go for the support idea 💡💡💡
I distinctly remember AMD selling "triple core" CPUs. They were usually quad cores with a single core that didn't pass quality control. Sometimes you could get lucky and unlock the extra core and keep stability.
That's both brilliant and shady
@@sevenkaylive you say that as if its big news. All chip manufacurers do that. CPUs are the pinnacle of modern technology so things go wrong.
AMD is so successful at the moment because if their modular CPU Design that cuts down a lot on manufacturing cost.
Athlon II x3, Phenom x3
I have an old pc with amd triple core, thank you for letting me know
'Unlock' an extra core? That's intriguing ,...
I mean... i've never seen no one before where a RUclipsr casually confirms that he pirated a piece of software to review it.
That's because Kenny is the last based youtuber of the west
He is based
I mean, i think Luke Smith could give Mental Outlaw a run for his money on competing their baseness
where tf are you even meant to pirate this
Silence, furry
One thing I believe ZorinOS has (haven't tried it myself yet) that hasn't been mentioned and fits right into the kind of "help for beginners" mentioned at the end, is that if you do something Linux-dumb like try to open a Windows executable, it'll offer a helpful pop-up basically telling you what you're supposed to do, and in some cases even tell you what app you could get from their repository to do what you're trying to do. It probably doesn't cover every use-case, but it's a great touch for beginners coming from Windows.
@Spada no really. what zorin does is it gives you options. it tells you if you want to try and use a linux alternative or it will offer you to install everything that is needed to run an .exe file on linux
Having the Pro version is actually more of a badge of honor in that it's the flagship as well as you contribute to furthering the project for more shiny sleek goodness.
he pirated it.
@@JyyceKrato can you call it pirated when the zorin team has nothing against it? they say it: buy once and distribute it on how many pc's you want and can. so there is no real piracy here
@@arianitonline8748 i meant by pirated was that HE DOWNLOADED IT OFF A WEBSITE.
@@JyyceKrato Doesn't matter, same case. It's not piracy. Hell, Zorin is just another Linux Distro, so who cares if you are pirating code that was originally open-source. Plus that price tag is absurd when you compare it to other choices, plus it's not like it'd be hard to emulate what Zorin does with some software anyway (that is also most likely open-source).
i purchased the pro version, and it is amazing. I run a small business, and everything works out of the box. My only bugbear, is that I think WPS office is better than Libra in terms of ease of use.
i would never trust winnie the pooh's spyware office

Did I just read the comments section of a tech video & not see any haters ?!
Great work everyone! 😀
I had tried Zorin previously as a candidate for less-than-tech-savvy family members & visually it is about as good you could ask for - very clean & friendly.
I'm all for supporting fellow devs & hopefully they receive a decent percentage of users contributing the $39.
Zorin would probably be good in an enterprise setting where a business wants to move away from windows but has plenty of employees who don't have a clue what Linux even is but just needs to respond to emails and make spreadsheets.
Absolutely.
An entire Township in Italy moved to Zorin.

Zorin OS was the second Linux distro I tried after failing with Solus (because I was a noob and didn't even know what a package manager was lol. Solus is really nice.) Just let me say it is wonderful and really stable, it is the #1 Linux distro I show when someone tells me they want to try out Linux.
I switched out from Elementary OS since it stopped booting (i assigned too little space lol) but Zorin looks cool ngl
i recommended arch linux to one of my friends
I will be trying Zorin Pro and support the $39 fee for the pro version. Developers should get some type of monetary reward for their time and effort.
if you really think that is the case, then go ahead and donate to the linux foundation, or the gnu foundation.
theyre the ones developing the core tools that makes zorin os and a lot of other distributions tick.
Absolutely love this OS. It helped me to get my 60 year old mum who had been a Mac user for 10 years, and my 60 year old dad who had been a Windows user for who knows how long to switch to this. Zorin connect is a game changer for me, and it impresses everyone I show it too. Zorin OS education and Grid are also really cool. Especially grid. Really looking forward to seeing that release.
It warms my soul when I see young people helping elderly with technology, it's a very kind and beautiful attitude imo
I was actually wondering between using mint with user-made custom Windows configs and Zorin OS!!! Thanks for the cool vid!

Zorin is the Linux distro for people who don't know how to computers.
Linux Mint is the the one for people that knew how to use windows, but don't want to spend time relearning everything at once, yet wants it to be really customisable and documented.
Ubuntu is for people who buy Dell laptops, then drop out of school and make the local news.
i lol every time i get reminded about ubuntu girl
I don't get the last one. Can you provide the context for that meme?
Meanwhile, 'ur mum' is chasing the guy who writes kernel for a CPU he built himself ground up from sand.
(This is a joke, please don't get offended)
Lmfao thank you for the reminder. I had forgotten about her hahaha
Got an aneurysm reading this
My man here really just pirated a paid Linux Distro and made a video about. Legend.
Free marketing. I'll probably recommend this to my normie friends and family now.
Devs clearly state that the paid distros are just a way to offer support to them. You can use free Zorin and achieve the same results.
your friendly neighbourhood pirate ship, LOL
Paying money for non existent stuff is stupid
you must be from 1st world country. Here in East Africa and the Middle east not a single person buy any kind of stuff (Softwares, games, Windows......) We don't even pay for Netflix, Sportify, UFC......... So kid stop crying and STFU
Wow never tried Linux but this just revived my laptop, and I can still boot into my slow Windows for any leftover files. Will donate/buy Pro definitely
This is actually used on a local government & corporate level. 40$ might not be worth it for an individual, but at a company level it might pay off.
Certainly cheaper than windows pro or enterprise...
Pirate linux instalation. I've seen everything. Jokes of course.
Good work mental!
yeah , i'm using it (core) coming from ubuntu
- it's ubuntu based with snaps and flatpaks so i install all the software that is available
- it uses less than a gig of ram and less disk than windows
- it has a phone app so i can connect my phone and laptop.
- it's secure and private.
- i liked the dark grey theme and the apps menu that moves away from the typical desktop (menu left menu and a bottom panel)
- i can tweak it as i see fit.
Zorin was what introduced me to linux, so it'll always have a place on my heart
same
which distro do you use now?
@@MrTomro Fedora with KDE
I figure the main incentive to buy the pro edition is to donate to the developers, and in return you get some quality of life features. Plus the option for a minimal install is still present if you want less packages. Also, I think the broken dark theme on calc could have been fixed by restarting it. Not sure about gnome, but when I switch themes in XFCE, some programs will look broken until they're restarted.
zorin was really what made me fall in love with linux. i'd switched back and forth between mint and windows a lot of times but every time i used mint i kinda wanted to rip my hair out (mostly trying to get gaming working on it before proton was fine tuned and considered really good), but zorin was the first distro i tried that really made me never want to switch back to windows.
Lets gooo
I have been usin Zorin OS for a year now and i love it
AMD used to have Phenom X3 processors that were originally quad-core Phenom X4s with one core that just didn't quite meet the spec and being disabled, leaving the chip to be tri-core. 3 cores, 3 threads. I think on some motherboards you could unlock the 4th core and, if it's stable, in effect get a free upgrade to a Phenom X4.
I definitely think "bloated" Linux distros have their place.
Even the most bloated Linux distros will never hold a candle to the amount of bloat in Windows.
It's a worthwhile trade-off to make if you're getting ease of use and noob-friendliness from it. If you want less bloat, there are distros for that as well. Everybody wins.
more “just works” distros should use the Anaconda installer rather than Unity when installing.
perhaps it is just because I started the world of Linux on Fedora, but I find the Anaconda installer on Fedora much easier to use, especially when it comes to dual booting.
I give Zorin props for one thing: at least most of the bloatware isn’t default. If you don’t pay for pro, you don’t get the bloatware.
I run a small business. I bought it. I can explain why its worth it. Because it comes fully configured and everything works. The apple look, the email is automatically working, the integration with the mobile phone (android). Libraa office and open office are preinstalled. This is worth alot. I could spend days making ubuntu look like this, but, §39 saves me a huge amount of time.
@@mjwmontgomery plus supporting the development ;)
Anaconda is perfect. Just installed centOS 7 and I was impressed of how amazing it is
All I know is Calamares. I possibly never personally met a distro that didn't use calamares
@@sol_mental Ubuntu and many Ubuntu-based distros don't use Calamares these times

imagine having to pay $40 for a wallpaper
you're also helping the project :)
@@nonechico I would 100% donate my 40 bucks to Fedora or Linux Mint than buy Zorin OS.
It's more like a donation to the zorin team, you can get a few Nice stuff like wallpapers and all but I don't think it's the main reason why People buy the "pro" version
@flim you think the zorin os team is full of aliens or what, they need to make a living, it's just a Way to make money.
bruh the Zorin boys gotta pay bills somehow
I snagged the Zorin Core version and ran it in a VM. I loved the layout and simplicity of it all. I didn't like that it had Ubuntu stuff. This distro however, is going to be great for the normies.
I went full on pro....they put alot of work and alot of shit that was included in pro I didn't feel like going through to install so it saved me time out of the box. The best distro in my book
Loving the justworks video series!
I've been trying out a lot of distros and was never really comfortable but Zorin for me hits that sweet spot. The core version is for sure enough and I wouldn't consider buying forty bucks for the pro version.
I'd say this is the right point between Windows and Linux where most people would be comfortable with switching over from Linux.
Nvidia drivers are about the get much better on Linux. The recent 470.xx drivers added some starter code plus an Nvidia build of Xwayland and Nvidia have said that in the next major version they're including support for dma buffering and a few other needed features so Nvidia users can finally switch to Wayland.
This looks really nice, I'll probably install it on a couple low end PCs I own.
Love this OS its what made me move to linux as my daily driver, something about it is just nice and keeps me in it, the 40 dollars are essentially a donation and i encourage everyone to do that
The free version--Zorin Lite--is the most complete & perfect turn-key Linux distro I've ever used. It's a florescent orange softball sitting on a Tee: a 4-year old can nail it. If a normie can't figure out Zorin then he/she shouldn't be allowed to own a computer.
Not without professional help xD
Using zorin is easier than using Android and just about everybody knows how to do that
This makes me a lil bit more confident in trying linux on my dead pc.
This channel is by far my favorite one, keep it up man.
18:20 what? plasma is way less resource heavy than gnome lol
Modern plasma uses even less resources than xfce lmao. Test it by yourself
When it’s barebones yea, they’re around the same when they’re not bloated to shit. Gnome is gross but it’s even grosser when it’s prepackaged to absolute shit. Xfce is still technically lighter without the ‘goodies’, thankfully xfce is really modular comparatively
@@atemoc it uses less ram than xfce but a little more CPU
@@VictorHugo-xw7qi yes!! I disabled all effects and my idle CPU use is about 1% with a bunch of programs in the background !
And I have to do way less workarounds now, especially regarding occosonaly secondary monitors (xfce panels glich when they're monitor got disconnected, so I had to write a script to fix it.)
@@VictorHugo-xw7qi My pet peeve is how people only look at RAM when talking about how heavy or light a desktop environment is, it's just so fucking stupid
I think 40 dollars for installation support is a bit much frankly. It's nice for complete newbies, but that's about it.
Now actual post-install tech support for that money would be great I feel.
It's a trap for Apple users, they can't resist.
If we discuss the fact that Zorin team doesn't really have their 'own' apps, all zorin systems like zorin dock, panel are forks from other devs. Zorin does have a nice gtk theme, which we can get from git. It'd be weird if desktop ricers started to put price tag on foss products. (Ik foss isn't about free rather freedom)
@@marco31 You don't need to be a dev to make a theme and tweak css. A random arch ricer does something like this everyday. Also Zorin forum and guide are mediocre. Pop os is the winner if it comes to support. System76 do make money from their hardwire sells.
@@akibahmed1956 honestly the amount of detailed help ive seen on gentoo forums makes me wonder if paying for it is necessary
Man you coined a new term:
Linux piracy
Definitely made me feel old talking about when Windows 10 came out.
This is by far the best out at the time and I hsve tried almost all them. Please keep up the work.
The lite version is crazy
minimum specs are
10GB hard drive
2 core CPU
500MBs of Ram
it's amazing for reviving family member's old laptops
I still suggest you Mx Linux for Antix for that I tried zorin lite on my laptop from 2009 but it had an issue with my graphics card (gt220m) and resolution stuck at 640*480 or something like that.
I highly recommend MX Linux. It's my everyday distro.
@@helloworld963 the main problem was most likely the fact that it was an Nvidia GPU. Nvidia and Linux dont play well...
That's normal
Eh those minimum specs are pretty normal there are some distros that can run on just ram lol
It's not cool to encourage people to pirate it, they're important contributors to the FOSS community and deserve to make a living
Exactly...
Kenny, there were 3 core phenoms i think. They were basically 4cores with one core disabled.

I have such a cpu. Even manages to run on a 95Watt CPU socket, lol (/w 4th core unlocked - TDP increases to ~135W)
You will need to restart LibreOffice for the theme to apply fully. For icons, you can change them in the LibreOffice settings.
I think the zorin installation support thing is saying you get support post-installation. So you can email, call, etc. Zorin and they'll give you customer support. To that end I think it's honestly a pretty good deal, especially for new users. (it'd serve as a nice counter to the "linux is free, if you don't value your time" argument, because to those people, buy Zorin, its 40 bucks and you get lifetime support)
I've been using ZorinOS now as my daily driver for a bit now. I love it. It has completely replaced windows for me.
It's literally Ubuntu for the installation. Active Directory is a part of Ubiquity.
I used this as my first Linux distro when I was 12! That's how simple it is to beginners
Been using Zorin daily since around the time you made this video. I think it is easily the best option for a first-time Linux user transitioning from Windows. Best combo of quality of life features users would expect from a modern OS and a UX which is almost identical to Windows. It feels near 1:1, especially given how much time most people spend in browsers now anyway.
I've been testing out 16 Lite as a go-to for Winblows refugees with older hardware, and so far I'm impressed.
I don't think Zorin is appealing only for old windows users... Well, okay, they want to be the new entrance distro, but I actually like the system even being absolutely not novice to Linux, I think they did a great job on the DEs, and specially with the Light version, it's very very slim on idle, I'm looking forward to the day I have to reinstall my main system to make a proper dual boot between Arch and Zorin.
I'm trying OS 16, which is the free version. I'm liking the Windows app assistance, where it either helps you install something through Wine, or says "I've got something just as good", also Zorin connect is very good. I have trouble trying to text with the itty bitty letter icons, and now I can do it through my computer, plus, some texts want me to look at web pages, which are best viewed on the computer, and this simplifies that. I don't think I need the $39 version, but I like the middle version.
Yeah. Since version 5 of KDE at least GNOME is heavier than KDE. GNOME gets to take the crown of most bloated DE.
And it is the one that don't want you to turn off your computer from time to time. I switched to xfce because of that but idk i why i like gnome even though it is using more ram than all other DEs. At least it is not windows!
@@MpSniperM1911 I mean fair. I just hate GNOME's workflow and development philosophy. It's a shame my favorite DE is based on GTK (MATE). Things are going to get real spicy for them soon with GTK4.
vanilla gnome uses about 700MB for me while vanilla KDE uses more than 800. idk how you can call one of them more bloated than another.
i bought my Zorin pro and i love it soo much i have it for all my computers
I never thought I would see someone using a pirated linux distro lol
Some AMD Cpus way back in the day had 3 core editions as a budget option.
Thanks for doing these, I'm thinking to switching to Linux soon
First thing i thought was if you would really pay for that, and then you showed us how to pirate this thing and publically did it. U are my fav youtuber now
Man, your thumbnails are as good as your videos. Haha
A few months ago came over to Linux as the main daily driver. In my professional life in IT I go back to the first Linux for PCs and Win 3. As an intro to Zorin your vid is ok but you need to use Zorin foe a few months to fully appreciate the OS. You will not be disappointed I’ll go as far as saying it will be the number one go to Linux distro overtaking Mint in couple of years. BTW don’t forget Linux tinkers are only 1 percent of computer users. The rest of the world just won’t an OS that works well and Zorin IMO is that.
From a windows convert, Zorin is amazing.
I am using Zorin right now. I think its a mind saver right now for me...
I’m okay with torrenting the works of big multimillion corporations. Not so much ripping off a small team of developers, especially ones that do such great work and provide us with a real alternative to mainstream OSes
Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeh
I've used the core version for years from a persistent USB drive installation as a way to handle systems that won't boot and retrieve data etc. Also handy for traveling with only my phone and using hotel computers. I just bought a Lenovo laptop with detachable touch screen and purchased the Pro version of Zorin because I thought they were saying it would make the OS look like the Mac which I really like. Seems like it doesn't do more than make an attempt at making the desktop look Mac-ish. But having created a live/installer that works on my MacBook Air I find it doesn't want to install on the Lenovo IdeaPad D330, so having paid for Pro I will hopefully get help with the install. ON the default it goes to a blank screen and with the NVIDIA drivers option it hangs at a point where it says "Starting power management". So far I have sent them photos of the screens and details of the problem but they have not gotten back to me (it's the weekend). I like Zorin so assuming it will work on the Lenovo I'm happy and can't wait to get rid of the Windows 10 that came on the Lenovo.
I IMMEDIATELY changed the location of my trashcan to the right bottom. Thanks for the advice mental-sama
Yeah... This is my new favorite Linux Distro. (Mint is my 3rd and Garuda is 2nd)
yo outlaw, you should make a tutorial on opsec, and best practices that you regularly apply to be as anon as possible on the internet without having to completely boycott access to big tech websites (like how you access youtube regularly)
The install process is pretty much the same as every other Linux distro like Ubuntu, including Active Directory. The only difference is that census. I am also in possession of a PC with 3 threads as it happens.
Can you do a review of Bodhi Linux?
I could be wrong, but I think a big chunk of that 40 dollars is because they have a really good configuration for running Microsoft Office and Adobe Suite programs on Wine.
see that money as a donation to the team
One windows feature I wish would be integrated on Linux is the hover and scroll function
I think that the opt-out nature of Zorin's telemetry is acceptable, because they don't try to hide it, they show it as a prominent option during the installation process. If you had to go digging in the settings to opt out, that would be a different story...
Pop_OS has no telemetry, at all.
@@ZambonieDude ok
Zorin has a really polished version of xfce. I have nothing against paying for a distro since developers deserve to get paid and the open source business model is focused on selling tech support, not licenses. Imo it's only problematic to charge for Linux when it's deceptive: like when Linspire sold a yearly subscription to their synaptic front-end Click-N-Run.
I payed for my zorin os about 3 months ago I like it.
I have it and I 💕 it!
18:19 actually KDE tends to run a bit faster than gnome at least the recent versions do
it works even lighter than xfce on my core 2 duo, 2009 laptop. bias against kde is coming from the past in most cases
woah really? i should try kde again lol
Luckily looks like every update for KDE gives some improvements to wayland so hopefully y the time it becomes main stream it will be as stable as x11
21:00 It's just a bug with the quick switch feature. If you were to close Calc and re-open it, I believe the dark theme would appear as normal.
Ah pirating linux, now that's the content I'm interested in.
I love it as desktop daily driving
Why are people still saying that it is hard to install nvidia drivers? It has been no more trouble then a few mouseclicks for like more then 6 years, maybe even longer. I'm using linux since 2001 and I can't even remember when I had to manualy install the nvidia driver.
I've used Zorin OS 15 Lite for 8 Months.
As Lite user, It's not So Good and Not So Bad experience for me.
So Kenny, one year down the line and with the end of Win 8.1 extended support looming, which distro should I be shilling to digitally impaired boomers: ZorinOS, PopOS, Mint or * shudder * Ubuntu?
I see... TeamOS eh? Based
If i'm not mistaken, snap is right there by default, the software center is also using snap
Been actually considering switching to some kind of Linux distro. Only reason that I haven't is because of the tools that I can only use on windows (mostly visual code studio, Doom Builder, ect).
Respecting Piracy is a great concern for zorin os developers...
I use that operating system and its *way better than Windows 10. Period.*
Interesting and unique
Dude, you could have just emailed the Zorin brothers for a review copy. But instead you're encouraging people to rob FOSS developers of money? What a shame.
yeah and even then $40 isn't much especially when it's tax deductible for being a "work expense" and you're making ad money from posting the video. Shame on him for pirating it
But there is side that fact he reviews it results in new buyers to distribution, example I have used Linux for +10years and I have newer heard about this distro. Plus he could have skipped distro altogether, and they would not get this publicity. Also even if you pirate it, I would believe if user likes distro, they have high change to donate/pay in long run. So I would say results is more and less neutral.
Buying the pro version is just a way to donate. For those who can't afford $40, maybe they should offer a wallpaper pack for something like $10 or so?
I love Zorin OS and I consider it's "Pro" version as donation. You're the first RUclipsr who criticize Dev's for costing for "Pro" while reviewing Pirated version for making money on RUclips. Dev's should always paid for their hard work and for motivation. If you're criticising Linux Dev's then I don't consider you as a true Linux lover.
Finally
Corporate. Telemetry. Ubuntu based. If you're a beginner, or anyone else (aside from the Arch techies), rather get this distro : Linux Mint LMDE 6.
Based directly on Debian, not dependent on Canonical Ubuntu.
Windows 10 came out while you were in high school and that makes you feel old? The only option I had to use a computer at University was with Punch Cards and printouts only, no monitors even!
