Happy New Year guys ! ! My favorite box set of this year is The Doors Live at The Matrix, it is an amazing live 5 album set. My favorite 2023 single album is Horace Silver Blowin" Away the Blues.
I have Japanese coloured vinyl pressings of the red and blue compilations that I got back in the late '70s, but I've never seen that box and wasn't even aware that it existed. I wonder if it might have been something limited to a particular store or chain, like the limited edition boxes for CD mini lp sets that Disk Union (Shinjuku) has put out. Cool find...
For me the box set of 2023 was the 10 lp limited edition set from Dialogo (Italy): 'The Complete Obscure Records Collection'. This is everything that was released on Brian Eno's Obscure label in the mid to late '70s (including his own 'Discreet Music'). A clothbound box with all Lps in repros of the original sleeves; pressed on dead quiet vinyl; an 80-page book with photos and interviews; and of course the obligatory certificate of authenticity or whatever. Beautifully done.
George is tired of this topic, but his video on A Love Supreme is worth a watch for anyone who relates to music on any level. Not to vinyl, not to jazz, not to what is currently popular, but to music itself. We should all be so fortunate to have a piece of music or artist that we connect to so deeply. Easily the VC video of the year for me. (Sorry George)
I completely agree with Michael. The vinyl community talks about the same records over and over again: the 153rd Beatles reissue, the 137th Miles Davis reissue... There are so many other good records to discover. I've started listening to Fie Orchestra, it's incredible.
Well I guess I’m just a philistine with no taste, because I bought the new red compilation on CD and I think those songs sound good. I prefer my 2014 mono versions on vinyl, but I enjoy the remix as a different stereo presentation and the CD was well worth the $20 it cost me.

@@photobooksandrecords I've read that the 2012 release (first 4 lp edition) had some issues The last track on each side was pressed too far into the "dead wax", causing audio distortion. That is fixed on the 2014 edition. My copy sounds fine. Did you compare the 2014 and 2023 editions? Anyway thanks for the tip!!
A great way to finish 2023 with a stream with those topics and this wonderful panel. Boxset of the year for my self is the VMP - Miles Davis The Electric Years. Records I enjoyed in 2023 and consider my favorites are PJ Havrey and The National - produced records that found there way on my turntable often. Audiophile Release of the year have to be John Coltrane its just spectacular and have to mention Acoustic Sounds Atlantic 75 as this series must be mentioned as the series are audiophile grade. Bigest Disapointment have to be RSD (It always a gamble and mostly enjoy the RSD releases) The Doors Live - Lifeless and super poor recording. Think I paid $40 for this numbered release. I agree with Nick The Zeppelin II Robert Ludwig is one I have seen on videos but never heard or held. Congrats Nick !
Hi Michael great video as usual, merry Christmas, my B.S of the year was the UHQR White Stripes my son & Daughter bought it for me for Christmas $300 Australian dollars after all the hype I was disappointed, I have a very early copy and I almost prefer that. I feel the UHQR is lacking in the top end

The 2023 infinite sadness pressing is so much better. If you get the chance to pick it up I highly recommend it.
