The filmmaker really did capture Prof Sullivan as I remember him. The Pythagorean Secret is finally revealed: in the 40 years since I have known Prof Sullivan, I did not know about the two-word phrase, "be interested."
This is the most fun math related video I have seen in a long time and Dennis Sullivan is such a fun and interesting character! I hope future videos are made in this style.
..."Be interested"...! Yes. When you ARE interested and maintain being interested there is no chance being unhappy. In reverse, we are unhappy with or about something, when we lose interest in it. Proved! (Not mathematically, though🙂)
I’m glad to know your history as a researcher, but can you please tell me your experience as a student? We’re you a genius at mathematics when you were a student and stand out on top of everyone else? I’m asking because professors nowadays have such expectation. Thanks
Wow. One can actually tell from the ‘choppy’ way the water waves look compressed that he’s contemplating the upper half plane in poincare metric Where’s the circle? #Yummy
Dr Sullivan is not a genius but he is a nice person and he does his math for pleasure. I glad he got the Abel's prize. I have seen some other mathematicians, Abel's prizers, and they seem a little bit arrogant or great achievers all their lifes. Dr Sullivan is not in that 'set'.
The very first part demolish the belief that the best work in mathematics is done in groups or associations. Coming from Prof Sullivan is like a dogma.

@@gogigaga1677 Thanks, workshopped it for a while
hhahahahaha, this made me laugh.
My favourite dialogue: " ***When i get recognition in a feild, i Chang the feild*** "
I had the pleasure of taking his course on Algebraic Topology and he was every bit as fun and interesting in that course as he is in this video.
He's like a main character in a movie. Such a wonderful personality!
What a sweet plot. Congratulations to the laureate.
WOW!
What a pleasantly flamboyant genius he is!
Excellent videography!
Who else spotted Jim Simons in his 2 second cameo?
amazing video ever
Just wow
Is that Jim Simons at 0:54?
Yup.
skin cancer?
Brilliant.
Someone I can wholeheartedly respect in the math world, not all that common I fear
Awesome.

I am one of those crazy people Dennis replies to. Very slick short by the way.
I love this man😂❤
He is cool 😎

0:54 you see Jim Simons from the Simons Foundation.
The boundary of a boundary is zero...what is the dimension/boundary of a hole in a 0-dimensional point? Serious question!
2:22 UNDEFEATED STORY THAT WAS HILARIOUS 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
1:13 Do We think they achieved that on their First Take? 🤔😅🤣
The boundary has no boundary. What is outside this boundary?
Literally me (first 16 sec.)
Wow.
