Wigan is not known for edible pies.During a pit strike in Leigh the wiganers broke through the picket line to work.Sounds nothing but was at the time.Theyre known as pie eaters as they were made to eat humble pie as a result of breaking the strike picket lines. They are still hated by the people of Leigh ,Lancs
And not just Leithers eitherS St Helens bunch where very rough with em at the time to.....Well done On the history lesson I tell that tale to many folk...its not about meat n fkn potato ones people lol...not originally anyways ...but by fuck it is now.....me included ha....
Sorry Paul but that's not how the name arose... it had nothing to do with a pit strike in Leigh! The Wigan miners were striking for better pay and, presumably, conditions. As the strike dragged on they became so desperate and 'half-starved' that that they had to ask the pit-owners if they could return to work. The pit-owners said they could if they would take a CUT IN PAY, which the miners reluctantly agreed to. Hence they were said to have been 'forced to eat humble pie.'

One of the least funny comedians ever.
What are you not a pie eater from Wigan?
Are you Peter Kay, jealous of him writing all your jokes?
