"Emergency only" means, the motors turn off automatically when you hit something, but you can't turn them off yourself. You can only turn them off yourself when you selected "anytime" in the settings, which can be useful if you're flying near people or animals for example (I rather crash my drone than hurt someone). It's not weird, it makes perfect sense. 😅
yes once I crashed my drone intro a tree and then the motors are stopped spinning and a message pop up on phone that "motors are unable to rotate please check the motors"
@@TechyHrik yep thats right because a youtuber made a video abot mavic air durability test the test shows that mavic air didn't shutoff the motors even the propeller touching the ground while spinning i guess that the mavic air tried to stabilize itslef but even in dangerous situations
Classic content right there. There are many who continue to check out those videos which blows my mind! My how to fly a drone video is still the #1 most viewed video on my channel every month, lol
The intersting test would have been to switch the CSC response to "anytime" then go up high, CSC it, and see if you could restart the motors as it fell i.e. halt the fall. Note 1, the restarting attempt MUST be made with a SECOND CSC i.e. release the first CSC let the sticks recentre and apply the SECOND CSC. If you just hold the motor stopping CSC the drone will NOT even try to restart. Note 2, if you succeeded in restarting the motors you might have to throttle up to halt the fall as the motors might restart at idle. There is some discussion of this in one or more threads on the Mavicpilots forum. The uncertainty surrounds whether the drone will, during free fall, remain level enough or perhaps pass through such a position slowly enough to permit another CSC to restart the motors. Excessive tilts during free fall may prevent the motors from starting. In "emergency only" mode it will descend in a helix under full control for as long as you hold the CSC position and, if you let it come down that far, it will even slow its descent as the ground comes within range of the downward looking sensors. Once you release the sticks it will hover. The following, from more than 1 year ago, is a low level CSC with motor stop, with a Mavic Mini, dropping into a blanket. ruclips.net/video/50saxz5uzgw/видео.html If I remember correctly the following, also 1 year + ago, is a good video dealing with a mid air CSC, ruclips.net/video/IRpmKtKjPfs/видео.html
Well done video! Nicely organized. Nicely paced. No padding. To the point. Informative and fun - and most of those scenarios are ones I'm sure we've all wondered about. Thanks!
Great video Carson! Very helpful. When I powered up my Mavic Air 2 for the very first time I forgot to take off the gimbal cover. I was thinking that I may have damaged the gimbal. Thankfully it still works, as you showed in your video. I haven't forgotten to remove it since, because I put a piece of blue painters tape on it and up to the power switch. Easy reminder that my gimbal cover is on and to remove tape and cover before flight.
He Carson.... Interesting video. Answered visually some of the info I've read in the DJI Manuals (2 Pro & MA 2). Lost signal from the controller (i.e. - power loss), the drone waits approx. 11 seconds, before initiating and automatic RTH. As for the moving both joy sticks either in or out at the same time in an Emergency, going to guess it might have something to do with an immediate threat of collision if OAS is not functioning; or it might be a fly way situation. Post Script - Finally got to fly my MA 2 after 9 months of lock down. Did nothing crazy, just reacquaint my hand-eye co-ordination. Having flown my micro drone in the interim, certainly helped.
One thing I want to add about the emergency shutoff in emergency only mode is that when you start to do a manual take off but you don't take off (props spinning slowly) you can use that emergency shutoff to turn the props off. I have done this with a borrowed air 2 (am saving for a air2s). The reason was that i was about to film a car driving on private property and I didn't know if I needed to take off so I had the props spinning slowly so I could take off quickly
I would like to see you try to go up about 500 feet and initiate the CSC function and then start it up before it hits the ground and recover without crashing. I think it’s possible but no way am I going on try it! Lol.
This type of drone was one of my first drones. The second day I got it, I went up about 100 feet and the drone battery died.. it fell uncontrollably all the way back down and landed very hard on my concrete driveway. Only thing that was damaged was the legs. Still flys great to this day!
You are very brave and confident do do this with your drone, I have a DJI Mavic Air 2 and I would never do this, wow! How could you be so brave to try to take off when it’s folded up
I had to do that in Cancun, CSC cut-off, I was at 30 meters and it dropped to 12 meters in a second before restarted and hovering. It was a DJI Mavic 2 Zoom.
Your videos have always been on what ifs scenarios that an amateur drone pilot can learn to avoid and enhance their flying experience secondary to taking photo tips. Have only flown my ma2 12x since purchased end of Sept but will fly again with better weather temps. The DJI air 2 has top sensors but don't have side. Autel Evo 2 still has an advantage except for the radio system that uses other protocol.
"Not touching the controller". Proceeds to instantly power up the controller when the drone doesn't return to home so now we don't know what would have happened. 🤦♂️
Not seeing anyone mention this so I feel I need to. The “controller off” rth? Wasn’t hovering because it didn’t like the surface, that’s what it does. Hovers until the battery level drops to critical and performs a forced “low battery” landing. It’s a safety feature in case the rth wasn’t accurate and it might land somewhere you don’t want.
Is it possible to turn it off and restart it midflight? For example if I'm very high up lets say about 1500ft and barely have any battery left to descend, can I turn it off and then restart it when it's close to the ground about 300ft. I have seen people doing that on other drones and I was wondering.
Hey Carson, great tests! ... can you do another What If test? Was wondering, what if the mm2 as full left stick down (mode 2), while the drone is flying (in motion, not hover). Would it stop and land or would it just crash and burn to the ground? Cheers..
Ok so you have CSC set for anytime. Let's assume you are at 400ft (120m), and you shut down your drone. So now it's free falling, so now you attempt to start the motors again, I wonder what would happen especially if the drone was tumbling not just falling straight down
Yeah, I’m not sure. It’s just innovation and I welcome it! It’s just crazy how technology can evolve and outperform it’s predecessors in just a matter of 2-3 years when it comes to drones!
I had a question? I tested whether a person can fly a "Wifi" only drone with just the controller--no phone or tablet connected at all. And, it works! I always put my phone on "Airplane Mode" when I fly--so an incoming call doesn't cause the drone to disconnect. The RC must create it's own signal transmitted from it's antennas, right? So, a smart device only serves as a screen to view the app data? I know more expensive drones use radio frequencies (2.4 Ghz to RC and 5.8 Ghz video transmission). Wifi is just a weaker signal but works the same?

Hey, I have a question I am not brave enough to answer myself. I was wondering if you emergency power off high up is it possible to return to normal flight operation before hitting the ground? This stems off of a video I watched where a guy’s drone got stranded at a high altitude because the positioning system kept the drone from descending due to wind. Curious to see what could come out of that experiment.

OK first of all the DJI Mavic mini two or the Mavic mini it doesn’t have a sensor for the game of protector, so what it does is it the camera will keep re-calibrate recalibrating recalibrating until it just can’t re-calibrate no more so that’s why it’s sort of recalibrated right after you took it off Yeah I’ve done it with my finger like if you just hold the camera and if the access does doesn’t work then it’s going to keep doing this repeatedly until it works or I think there’s like a timer that like if the gimbal can’t re-calibrate it within a certain minute then it’s just gonna you know not recalibrate no more until you turn it back on

Not sure this is the correct answer (haven't tried), but according to a post on the dji forums the drone detects an emergency as something out of the ordinary happening like bumping into something, tumbling out of the sky (i.e. propeller came off) or something the like. So the drone has to be in some kind of distress so to speak for the csc to work in emergency only mode. The answer was worded a bit unclear but that's what I took from it. So maybe put a propeller guard on, have someone bump the drone and try again.
@@colbycarroll7746 Yes! The drone will execute a "lost link" procedure by default if it loses connection with the RC. And, you won't be able to do anything about it after that happens until the drone re-established link with controller. So, make sure you select the correct lost link procedure before takeoff! Never use "Return To Home" setting when taking off from a boat--the drone will come back and "land" in the water if boat has moved (after lost link or when battery drops to 10%). Remember, the drone only knows the GPS location to land--it cannot tell if it's land or water beneath it). Also, it will go straight up to RTH height you specified--which is good to avoid trees, buildings, and power lines. However, if it disconnects under tree branches, a bridge, tunnel, or roof--it will fly straight up and crash into them. However, if you are flying above the RTH altitude you set--the drone will not descend until landing.
I had a serious crash. The drone flipped and ran upside down into the ground .... it was refusing to csc can we just have a kill switch, like old rc planes?
you said if someone calls you while flying your drone, should you only fly in airplane mode or should I ask can you fly in airplane mode or can you answer a call or text while flying?
Ive flown my mini b4 and all of sudden remote controller disconnect.Shock indeed but it did return to home safely. Noted: b4 flying ALWAYS CHECK RTH POINT(its really helpful). And f u ever plan flying well quite far (probly bout 2km +) use 100% battery level.

Just make sure your settings for loss of signal are set to RTH. There are three options, at least on the Mini 2 that I have: RTH, Descend, and Hover.
5:26 its Falisafe RTH its active when your controller dies or the drone loses RC signal
If you try to fit the fimi X8 SE 2020 will be fine, it's a dji killer
creative thinking! hahaha
If you shut props off at 400ft, could you restart them and save it?? Or just smash?? I have allot who have been asking the same
Ive flown my mini b4 and all of sudden remote controller disconnect.Shock indeed but it did return to home safely. Noted: b4 flying ALWAYS CHECK RTH POINT(its really helpful). And f u ever plan flying well quite far (probly bout 2km +) use 100% battery level.
