    Haar is lovely word. We call it fret in Whitby.
    The reason for less views is certainly the following you have built up but also coastal is still less popular overall.
    It is my opinion that it will not remain this way over time though. Subjective I know, but coastal enduro (my favourite) and beach sprints are simply more exciting for both rower and spectator. Enduros F1 style courses with modern drones etc would make for incredible televised events.
    I see you as a future innovator within the sport as well as a high level coastal athlete.
    But ultimately, it’s about what you enjoy the most!

    Hey Cam, I was just wondering if you could give some advice. I am a high school rower in the US and my 2k pb is 7:11 which is from about a month ago. We have our last 2k of the season next week, and I was just wondering if from your experience you think that going under 7 minutes could be an achievable goal.

    Hi Cam, I have only recently found your channel myself. I will be honest I have not been watch the recent coastal videos not due to a lack of interest but a lack of time. As many have said coastal to many flat water rowers is seen as a foreign concept and we tend to be less interested in the the new. I'm not sure if that helps

    Yes, looks slower but it’s now a cleaner turn and you’re back on full Yam quicker akin to motorsports and mountain biking - slow in/fast out 😎

    The beach sprint videos are done well, with drones and assistants, very entertaining! They have convinced me that I don't want to do that (I get wet enough just launching my single; no dock). I enjoy your flatwater content, seeing the improvement there, too. So, yeah, both are good. Fun watching the journey.

    I think maybe it's just that beach rowing is a smaller world, with less folks interested to watch compared to usual rowing?

    • @CameronBuchan
      @CameronBuchan  4 месяца назад

      Probably the simplest explanation!

  • @nicklasdackheden8066
    @nicklasdackheden8066 4 месяца назад +1

    I'm only guessing here, but people probably started following you because of the rowing content, like your pursuit of at spot in the GB squad with all what that entail, henley royal from different angles, your travelling adventures etc. Coastal rowing is something completely different, and i suppose that shows in your stats. Personally i'd love to see you back at Leander yaming hard with the sweep oar, but I also realise that's probably not in the cards. Either way the videos have stepped up a notch latelly. keep up the good work!

    • @CameronBuchan
      @CameronBuchan  4 месяца назад +1

      That’s the running theory but I haven’t been looking at the Gb squad for a few years now. And the coastal rowing is actually a more likely avenue if I was to continue that route.
      I would say the coastal rowing isn’t completely different at all which I think a lot of the feedback is showing. There are a lot of misconceptions about it. It’s the same just usually not in a straight line! 😅
      While heading back to Leander would be interesting the reasons I left haven’t changed if anything have been reinforced over the years.

  • @alanmarsh3179
    @alanmarsh3179 4 месяца назад +1

    I don't understand the lack of interest. Variety a good thing and the demands of beach sprints must have a positive crossover to flat water while making you a 'better' rower in general.

    • @CameronBuchan
      @CameronBuchan  4 месяца назад +1

      I agree. The flat water rowing has felt better since I’ve been out on the sea. I think a couple of comments make a good point.
      Perhaps a lack of understanding of coastal rowing in general. Flat water rowers thinking it’s vastly different so therefore not as interested.
      Plus asking people that watch the videos maybe not the best idea to get opinions of people who don’t! 😅

  • @G30sta
    @G30sta 4 месяца назад +1

    Im a big fan of the beach sprint videos. Sadly I don’t think anyone here can answer why these videos don’t get as many views since we all decided to watch them. Might be good to vary it a bit so people don’t get tired of one type of rowing but I’m just guessing

    Does the coastal rowing hurt your skinny boat technique? Looks very different… more rush/digging?

    • @snekkel

      reminds me a little of my early days of rowing, high stroke rate, rushing the catch in the C class boat.

    • @CameronBuchan
      @CameronBuchan  4 месяца назад +2

      If anything it’s been helping my flat water rowing. There is more rush and digging but I’m rowing for less than 250m each way in a boat that weighs way more than flat water plus through some waves. Would be very similar in a flat water boat

      @@CameronBuchan Thanks for explaining! As someone completely unfamiliar with this sort of rowing, I think more explanations at a basic level in your videos (like this!) would be really interesting! How does the technique differ? how are you finding adapting the technique? Would love to hear more! (honestly you often talk about getting around the buoys, and I honestly have no idea how to judge)

As for content - a bit of river and a bit of beach is great - keep doing what makes you happy and remember 'variation if the key to motivation' #yamsquad
