Thanks! This video was a good help, I just acquired one in a pretty good state. I noticed that the needle in the view finder moves a bit in a heretic way, not sure the cell is still functioning correctly. I will try it with a film and a light meter. Do you know whether it is possible to recalibrate it, if needed? Cheers!
i don't think there is any calibration. a good cleaning of the cells and checking connections might do a great job because there might be a loose connection :) have fun and happy shooting! 😃
Thanks for the great review, this is a lovely tiny little camera with some modern features like a hotshoe that many others lacked. One thing I don't know about this camera is if it has auto parallax correction built in, I found very few reviewers of vintage RF mentioned about that. The auto parallax correction is the most important part on a RF in order to correct the framing at close range, I only know the Retina IIIC/S has it, not sure about the Vogitlander, and there are few Japanese models like the Konica IIIA, S2 and S1.6 has it, also some Minoltas, but I can't find info. on German made onces.
Lovely video mate! Just picked up one of these from a vintage store, I had used a Retinette before but I had no clue as to how the light meter worked on this thing, or how to change the ASA setting. I wish you all the best!
Hi and thanks for this video! I just got this model from my grandfather. It hasn't been used for over 40 years. This will be my first time trying to take photos on film, so I don't really know much about it! I've noticed that there's a bit of fog in the viewfinder, probably due to its long storage. Do you think this will be a problem for adjusting the exposure? Also, do you have a video or a link that explains how to set and understand the different settings? I'm particularly interested in shutter speed and ISO values. I bought a Kodak 200 Gold film, so should I always set the red dot to 200 ASA on the ring? Thanks in advance!
it is a fun camera to use! :) fog in viewfinder shouldn't be any problem, but this camera is zone focus only. you do not see what is in focus. you guess the distance and set the focus to that distance. on a sunny day with 200 iso film you will use f16 at 1/250s shutter so you can set it at the 3 people image on the focus dial and anything from 5 feet (1.5m) to infinity will be in focus :) i did show in this video how to set the shutter speed, iso and aperture :) thats correct, red dot goes on asa 200 :)
@@grainificent Great! Thanks for your response! I’m going to test all of this! I still don’t quite understand all the stuff about aperture and shutter speed :) I thought I only needed to set the ISO to 200 and not touch it afterward, then adjust the aperture according to the target (to center the needle). And also estimate the distance for the focus. Eager to see the results!
yes, if the light meter works, the needle will move when adjusting aperture or shutter speed. but the larger the aperture number, the less light it lets in BUT you get a greater depth of field so mistakes in guessing distance are less noticeable. so i would start with adjusting speeds first having the aperture at f8 :)
@@grainificent Thank you for your advice 🙏, I received my first development last week and the result is great! A few blurry spots but everything else is awesome by following f1 + 1/250 on the group of 3 people.
@@dylan_nwki dont understand the f1 part :) unless that was meant to be something like f16 (the sunny 16 rule). Im glad your happy with your results :) wish you all the best :)
@@melcruz3984you should check different settings and different light conditions. It has to go to the right as well depending on the lighting. You can also download a free light meter app and check if it shows a correct exposure. Or use a digital camera with manual settings and see. But it should either way move the entire range left to right.

On my retinette 1b the viewfinder frame lines dont move when setting focus so i guess it is not parallax corrected :)
Thanks for the info.
you are welcome :)

How do I take it out of the little leather bag thing it’s in?
mine has a screw on the bottom to screw the leather case into the bottom - opposite side from the film advance.

If you advance the film after taking a picture, the shutter is wound, and if you change the shutter speed will you hurt the shutter?
you don't have to worry about that :) you can change the shutter speed whenever you want on this camera :)

How to know if my light meter is correct if it’s just go from the middle to the left?
