This is the issue with a lot of painters I find, if you rush, you WILL grow to hate painting. It becomes draining. I actually went from batch painting to doing one to three models at a time and it's done wonders for me.
Whilst it's not masses of models looks like you made a really nice job of them. Theres lots of people jumping on these challenges and I think the main this is just finding someone to promise to paint with and then actually doing it.
Ah thanks guys! Yeah, I definitely could have done things quicker, but I really wanted an army im going to be happy with in the long run. Quite proud of my 1 man 🤣😅
Don’t worry, I’m a slow painter too, it generally takes me anywhere from 3 days to a week to paint a single model, it doesn’t matter if I’m just doing one or batch painting a full squad, it takes me absolutely ages to get models finished. But oh well, I enjoy it and it’s fun, so it doesn’t really matter how long it takes me 😊
Thats it isnt it, you have to enjoy the process too. For me, these challenge videos just help kickstart projects, as I'm always pressed for time. Do I really expect I'll finish them, without dropping quality.. probably not 🙂 Stick at it, chip away at the models, and stay focused. 😀 Youve got it.
Even though you failed the time challenge you have accomplished alot. Coming up with a homebrew chapter is quite hard and coming up with colours that fit with your chapter is also hard. So well done! Its a victory in my eyes :)
Broadsword Wargaming not too much more work, that’s such a good feeling :) I know what you mean about finding more time. It’s hard to fit in personal projects when the next video is looming 😆
As Guy from Midwinter Minis always says... use the biggest brush you can get away with, it really does save loads of time when batch painting. Cows?? In the 41st millenium... I don't see why not but consider how they feed the masses... surely corpse starch has some residual materials. Great video and the scheme look brilliant, I certainly couldn't produce something looking that good in 24 days never mind 24 hours.
Love these mini marathon painting sessions! I find them inspiring. I recently built, sprayed and based an entire Tyranid army in two weeks of evenings and weekends. A lot for me! Now they’re ready for batch painting - Starting with 90 hormagaunts;) Von Kettering’s youtube painting channel shared a cracking tip to prevent the knocking over of null oil/Agrax earth shade: he uses blu tac!
Ah of course, blu tac. My normal plan is to not spill it but it doesn't always work 😅 And great effort on the Tyranids, thatll be a lot of models! Keep at it 😀
Loved the video. However almost anyone who sees the single guy you fully finished would immediately say "You're going for too high level of detail, polish and finish for a 24 hour challenge! Really you're doing the army to a display level quality. When for this kind of challenge you should be shooting for a Tabletop Ready Plus... maybe you could push it to Plus Plus." These challenges are all about having not only the color scheme planned out but also tested on a separate unit of models done individually & timed. So that you have every step of you're going to paint them step by step along with how long each of those steps should take. Also part of these challenges you must understand yourself as a painter. What areas you're strong at and where you're weaknesses lay. Try to play to your strengths and avoid having to do your weaker skills as much as possible. But the army is shaping up nicely! I hope to see them fully finished off in another video soon. I also hope that both of you do something similar for the other armies left in that box as well.
Yeah, thats all very true. 😀 I know I'm not a particularly fast painter, I know I'm handy with an airbrush (but still slow), so I do try to lean on that a little more. I guess, for me, these challenge videos are just a way to get me painting. Like most, I never have enough time and have too many models in boxes. I'm happy with the end result and its good to break the back of an army. 😀 Now I can just paint away at leisure, knowing the most boring bits are done.
Now time to do a compilation or time lapse for the remainder of the army. I can’t wait to see them all done and on the table together. Great work regardless of the time issue.
Citadel pots, good for just two things. Spilling and drying out. As for the army, I think you did very well indeed. You'd have finished if you were just going for tabletop standard, base colours and a wash, but I don't blame you for going further than that. It'll be a stunning looking army when finished.
Thanks so much! 😀 I definitely could have sped the process up, but these are to be my channek home grown chapter, so thought it best to do what I could 😀
Lol brutal. I'm currently painting my passion project. White Scars force. First white scared me. Then Primaris was released changing my entire force which has officially been replaced by new big boy marines finishing with the newest bikers. Apothecary White has been a life saver but I still have to recess shade every single panel...of everything. Love it lol. Great video buddy. Pleasure to watch. I really need an airbrush....
I feel for you man, ha, that's a punishing colour to work with, it's very unforgiving. I can't recommend an airbrush enough, its allowed me to tackle whites now, which I wasn't comfortable doing before. The one I used here is just a cheap one (£40) from China..it came with a compressor and everything, its been great to learn with. Glad you enjoyed the video and keep at it, I have a habit of not finishing projects, so how about we both get them done! 😀😀
@@BroadswordWargaming Sounds good! I'll look into an airbrush for sure. But for now it's the old fashion way. Im just miffed I have paint the entire army again essentially. Thanks GW for Primaris Muhreens.
Great challenge and some excellent results. I just finished my Marine half of Indomitus in a similar scheme, swap yellow for orange. I used the Artis Opus dry-brushing method (my first time trying it). Pretty happy with how they turned out.
You're insane! Great work though man, these look fantastic. The orange looks amazing, I love the shadow on it. 2nd attempt at a 24 hour challenge, you'll finish one one day haha. Great video dude :)
Ive been enjoying your silly big army paints in a short time vids! Recently painted and based the indomitus necrons in around 7 hours and that was a slog, but they came out pretty great! Got the Space Marines to do next... I'll have to see how I compare to this ;)

Sounds like a good idea actually, stops the boredom and maybe the other person can add to the flavour of the models 😀 ah, whats a bit more stres anyway 😅
Necrons are just much easier and faster to paint, they have a lot less surface to paint, you can also "cheat" by just dry brushing and still obtain the same result as painting normally, I'm by no means a good painter but my ratio of my indomitus box is me paiting a single space marine marine per five necron warriors in the same time frame.
I spilled Agrax, but more often I spilled the Lahmian medium...and recently spilled some contrast paints too. I'll 3D print myself some of those paint holders :P
I think Lachlan hit the nail on the head when he said you would find a way to make the Necrons last 25 hours. I don't think you have quick and nasty in you. I wonder though your thoughts on this question. Painting light on dark I would have done the Rhinox Hide on the arms first and then the Orange. It would let the orange shine a bit more than it would on the black and you would have spend less time using it to highlight than you did trying to under shadow with the RH. What do you think on that?
Hey, ha, yeah, quick and nasty isn't my way. 🤣 I have tried several different recipes for the orange, and the problem with orange over anything other than white is that it just doesn't show through. Its such a thin, lightly pigmented colour, I've tried it over bone and light grey too. It goes green very easily (much like yellow). Im sure there is a way to do it though 😀. I'm happy with the result, even if it does take me 2 years 😅😧

Spray can base colour and then makeup brushes to drybrush on your various shades, building up gently to the highest highlight colour. Then make up a mid-tone glaze and use a big brush to glaze the different shades together. It's incredibly effective

Surely the point of these challenges is to adopt a paint scheme that works for the time given? You’ve done your best ever black and orange, and you mention you don’t want to skimp just for the sake of the challenge. Tbh it sounds like you wouldn’t have done anything differently if you weren’t on a timed challenge.
Dislike.. for that? 😭 There is quite a lot to think about in a video like this, dont really worry too much about spraying onto a matt, especially when I'm not at the studio.
@@BroadswordWargaming lol, i didn't actually give the video a dislike. but if you must know, it's because it covers up the grid which turns it from a specialist surface into fairly costly drop-sheet. i do nott have the money to that.

If you literally did base coat and shading you would have smashed them but then they wouldn't have looked as good and impressive as they do!! So it's a kinda semi-win.
That's exactly it. 😀 and thank you! I could have given them a drybrush and a wash, but these are my channels official chapter, so wanted something i'd be proud of. These videos are great at getting me painting.. Maybe ill just do necrons next time though 🤣🤣
I feel like a better challenge for the two of you would be unlimited time on the same model....lol
Look, if Zorpazorp is in Victoria I will go to his house and knock off his Necrons, then he basically painted no minis! You can still win by cheating!
OK, you didn't win but the end result it great!
Thanks man! I was really pleased to be fair, the scheme came out better than I expected.. looking forward to finishing them. 😀
This mad lad here painting while his nuln oil is open and that hurt to watch. I spilled mine once and now I just close my pots right after using.
Haha, that is the simpler option.
Worst oil spill since British Petroleum
🤣🤣 genius
According to the lore, the leather is from people that have died and their skin is reused...
Interesting.. and that makes sense. Waste not want not. 😅
Thank you , BSW
Thanks 😀
Went over to Zorpa and informed him that your minis were better ,
Looking forward to the rematch , will be interesting to see how your Necrons measure up to his , and his marines to yours ,
Thank you Oli' .
@@loupiscanis9449 haha, good man! 🤣
Zorpazorp can actually sing.
Haha, yeah. We are just a pair of actor/film people, got his sweet voice to open the video 🤣
Good effort
Thanks! 😀
Think these 24hour painting challenges sound fun in principle but the seem quite should destroying in practice.
This one was actually pretty fun, and much better than the last one I did. They're a good way to get me painting too 😀.. but you're not wrong 😅
So a Warhammer 40K version of the Ashes
Haha, yeah. The loser must burn their army and send it to the winner
Rematch with Zorpazorp pls
Oh it's on !
very well done - i mean the video ^^ of course the timed challenge is not that easy especially with those models you chose as they have sooo many small details ^^
Im currently painting the indomitus necron part in a day on my insta ;) (WK83 ) would be nice to see what you think about them
Thanks! Yeah, it wasn't easy. Ha. Oh cool, I'll come check them out. Good luck! 😀
@@BroadswordWargaming thanks alot ;) im really happy with how it worked out trying some new techniques and paint ;)
But yeah time management is brutal with those guys.. and the shading process... with all those spines and stuff it gets so messy :D
@@BroadswordWargaming thanks alot ;) thats very nice. i think im very pleased with the results and i have the urge for painting more necrons. now about 6 hours in.... it should be easy ^^ i hope
Bold assumption that it is cow leather...
You have to be bold in the 40th millennium! 😅
For me, the main reason is just to get me painting 😀
There is no dread naught in the indomitus
And I didn't paint the bikers 😉
Zorpa sent me here
Hey, welcome to the gang! 😀
This was a great video. Please do a rematch!
Ill have to finish these first. 😅
@@BroadswordWargaming follow up video then? You could live stream it!
sees guy spray directly onto cutting mat grid: dislike
Dislike..
@@thra-x1855 That's fair. I cant say I've ever used the grid 😅 But fear not, its double sided. Haha.
@@BroadswordWargaming now that does makes me feel better. carry on, carry on.
👍😁💚
😍
I havent painted as its pointless painting something that will never be used he chaos codex will decide the fate of the grey boys
Chaos don't deserve to be painted, theyre too naughty. 😈
1 member in our group started collecting an army to play because we played the game. Before that he was mainly collecting characters or units he liked to paint and showcase at home.
It is not cow hide. It's most likely human hide.
The flesh of the heretic.
@@BroadswordWargaming i don't think they would use heretic hide. That would be heretical. But everyone else is material wasted if you do not use every part.
Lol dude you suck! Letting the team down 🤣🤣
Enjoyed the video but you could have done them so much faster 😆
Like and comment to appease the almighty algorithm
your the right kind of painter SLOW AS F BOY Which is better then my shit
I'm just such a faffer. I think seeing all the other amazing paint jobs makes me want to be better, so I mess about too much. In fairness, I'm really pleased with the bois! 😀
@@BroadswordWargaming nah its the same for me in alot of ways buut im a beginner well 2 years doing it and i still hate Myself for my own paintjobs lol
Aren’t you based in the republic Ireland. …which is not the uk. Remember?
I am now, ha. I think I'd just moved when this video happened. 😀
Lower your camera. To much head room. This shot looks more like a title screen missing text. Love the content tho. Keep it up.
Comment #200 I am feeding the algorithm
Yes! Feed away my friend.😀
7:34 you're not a real painter... OR YOU HAVE ENOUGH SENSE NOT TO WASTE MONEY ON CITADEL PAINTS!!!
(no shade to citadel users, just a joke)
I did rather enjoy spilling a fivers worth of paint.. 😅 Its been a while.
