I picked up my MP145 as a kickstarter project, probably like many others. I've had it about 2 weeks and have tried all 3 nozzle and tip combinations. I find the silver to be the most pleasing and I am using Divinus Velvet ear tips. Overall it is a nice IEM, a bit big but it fits comfortably. Great review as always!
I picked up the MP145's at the start of the year for $125 (delivered) off of AliExpress. No regrets...they make exceptional sound. They are a relatively big IEM...but fit me well and allow me hours of listening without any discomfort. Extremely well tuned for my tastes and an absolute steal at this price point.
you've articulated exactly what I felt about the mp145 bass, it's a bit uncanny in that there's plenty of bass and it is very tactile but somehow lacks that bit of punch that you get from a DD. still like it though.
late reply but... planar bass tends to be a bit more compressed compared to a DD which while it can punch pretty well it tends to not be (funnily enough) as dynamic as a dynamic, the downside is bass can if not tuned right seem a bit lacking or even anemic on a planar as well as texture feel a bit missing. however the benefits of it are that it can deliver quite a strong quantity of bass and subbass while maintaining control and not bleeding into the midrange while a dynamic tuned similarly would either sound too bass or bleed heavily into the midrange clouding the details.
Lachlan, with reference to which nozzles you like, do you listen to the MP145's at what volumes? I'm using the balanced nozzles with OEM silicone tips. I like listening at higher volumes, but when i do with my setup, i find the upper treble to be too energetic and busy.
I tend to listen between 75-85dB as a maximum. It's also worth noting that you and I probably have different ear canal length and shape which alters the frequency response of our ears. You might have a natural treble boost right where the peaks lie in that tuning.
I don't think I actually tried them all. I tend to always reach for the Final, SpinFit, JVC, Azla or Tanchjim tips for all IEMs and then adjust based on the IEM.
I would have preferred a more compact shell with a little whale logo. Perhaps it was for the sound but the whale inspired design seems too bulky to chance on my ears. As always, thank you for such a well structured and articulate review :)

The Blessing 3 is lovely, but it's hard to say if it's a good pairing with the MP145 because they're both a little subdued in the dynamics. That said, the Blessing 3 is tuned a bit differently so it might be good from that perspective if you enjoy a less "in your face" delivery.
Do you mean in bed as for falling asleep? Because I’m also in the market for some that are tiny enough to do that, but so far, I’m still falling back to some old Sennheiser CX300. Do you know others that small (whose sound doesn’t suck)?
@@bhalejos Kiwi Ears Credenza will likely be small enough to do the job. You will also need the right tips that are both comfortable and keeps the shells from sticking out. That's especially important if you are a side sleeper and your head is on the pillow. The stock tips might work for you but I use spin fit cp100+ because they're comfortable (although I'm still looking for a shorter tip that has the stem either flush with the bottom of the tip or recessed in a bit.) The silicon doesn't bother my ears and they still fit well. You might have to experiment, however. Another important consideration is sound signature and something not discussed nearly enough by reviewers: listening volume. I'm a quiet listener so these actually balance out a bit. Hope that helps. I don't usually sleep with them in but I will watch shows or listen to light rain with thunder quietly rumbling in the distance tracks if I'm especially anxious.

That's a very interesting question. Having never sung with IEMs, I'm not sure what is most important for you, but I expect the best choices would be the MP145 (which might be too big) or EA1000 if you need to hear the whole band. Or, the Quintet would be the choice of you need a bit more focus on your own vocals.

@@PassionforSound, indeed, it is an AMAZING-sounding earphone, but their after-sales support is sorely lacking. Incidentally, according to EVERY MP145 frequence response graph that I've seen, the bass is far more elevated than in yours, and this is what I have confirmed in my listening tests. I suggest you experiment with different eartips - they can make an enormous difference to the perceived sound. Swapping tips made my Sennheiser IE100 go from crap to wonderful.

What about the resolution, the detail? - you know the thing we all care about. you either spend 99.5% of the video talking about everything else or you just don't even mention it at all. I'm glad you're having fun, but never have i spent more time listening to stuff I don't care about in a youtube video.
If I don't highlight something, it means it's to the standard I would expect for the money and that there is no difference to mention in the comparisons (i.e. they're performing the same in that regard). There's no need to be rude

The mp145 is has planar bass, pretty common with all of them.

Since I tend to wear IEMs in bed, those huge, heavy shells wouldn't work. It's unfortunate because I think I'd like the warmer tuning when I'm tired.

Depending on how cheap you need, the Sennheiser IE200 and IE300 are also both very compact and comfy.
