      @@ThreePedalGarage I appreciate the honesty. I always liked the Touareg and think it's a far nicer quality car than the Tiguan even if the technology is older. Wish it wasn't discontinued. After watching your video, I started looking for used ones online just to have a look. Today, they're an aberration in the used car market. Many have extremely low miles. Buying one is tempting. One of the big things that will prevent me from buying one, is the perception the cars have after Diesel Gate, and therefore the potential problems with resale if I were to ever want to sell one. Keep making great VW videos. Im the original owner of a 2004 VW GTI 2.8L 24v VR6 that continues to be a great daily driver, maintained in OEM+ condition. Unsure if you received one of my prior messages about the car. I'm slowly gathering parts to refresh the suspension, timing chains,, clutch, engine mounts, coolant hoses and certain engine accessories. The intent is to do all of the work at one time. I have never done this work before but continue to learn as much as possible in order to be as well prepared as possible. I understand you are or have rebuilt an R32. Is there any way we can talk about that rebuild and the one I'm planning? Talking to someone who has experience with what I'm getting ready to do would give me more insight and confidence. If you prefer not to, I understand and respect that too.

    The clip at 4:21 & 7:14 is me. All Touaregs have the same tow rating, 7710-7716 lbs depending on year. There was also the 4.2L V8 and 3.0L TDi (T3). The Maintenance and repair on the V8 and V10 engines require the frame to come off for even some basic repairs which amplifies repair costs and killed resale values. There is a great aftermarket bearing available for the intermediate drive shaft bearing replacement which is mainly only an issue with the VR6 and V8 models. I sold my 2006 V10 in the video and have a 2008 3.6 VR6 now, much more simple to maintain but not as cool. If you do get either TDI versions, bypass the EGR valve and give your intake systems a full clean from filters to intake valves. They gum up extremely bad in all TDI's.

    The R32 was not the first R, it was the Golf Rallye. The R32 was a modern recreation of the Golf Rallye. Also not sure how you do math but the base Touareg price was around 36k. The Toaureg V10 Price Range (MSRP): $85,400 - $97,970 in the US making that at least twice the price of a base model with the R50 being even more than that.

    • @ThreePedalGarage
      @ThreePedalGarage 4 года назад +2

      I’m considering all R models that’s are a R the rallye golf yes you could say it was the first R car but the R32 was the first car that was branded as a R car. I am going to do a video on the rallye golf but just have so many other cars to do first. And I don’t think I put the MSRP of the us base v10 TDI I put the base price of the R50 and the base Touareg. For the math I took the MSRP in euros and converted in using the 2008 exchange rate.

    • @mattlarson9897
      @mattlarson9897 4 года назад

      @@ThreePedalGarage If you want to look R badged vehicles they slap the R line on everything now a days! The Golf Rallye was the first true R. If you want to compare the price of the euro Touaregs then the price difference is even greater. They offered a R5 model too, not R50. It was a a base model 2.5L inline 5 turbo diesel. The 5 was for 5 cylinders and it was the cheapest Touareg you could buy. Far cheaper than our V6. It could be so stripped down it could have cloth seats (not even an option in the US). It even had a different wheel bolt pattern with different brakes! So the price difference between an R5 and R50 could easily double if not tripple. The W12 was also a lot better than the R50. The W12 should have gotten the R badge.

    • @mattlarson9897
      @mattlarson9897 3 года назад

      @@Caymanec I 100% disagree. The Rallye checks all the boxes of a proper R model. It has better body styling, AWD, largest HP engine of its body, and sporty interior with high bolster seats. It was also never sold to be a rally car. It was twice the price of a Golf (50,000 DM in 1989) making it too expensive to buy then race. It was also in a rally class against 2 other cars that made more than 50hp above the Golf Rallye. VW/Audi already knew what it would take to win at rally since they were dominating with the Audi Quattro. They would have known for sure the Golf would not come close to winning in its class. It would have been noncompetitive before it ever rolled off the assembly line. It is no different than trying to rally a 2004 R32 when it was new. Also where do you think the R came from in 2004 while naming a Golf? Of all 26 letters in the alphabet and they happen to pick R with no ties to the older Golf... I really don't see how anyone can exclude this car from the R lineup, it checks all the boxes and was the most expensive VW of its day.

    The major concern is supposedly CO2. Diesel engines put out much less CO2 as they burn much leaner.
    30+ years ago there was a problem with acid rain. This is caused by NOx. However it immediately vanished overnight with the requirements for scrubbers on coal fired powerplants that put out multiple 1000% NOx compared to untreated diesel engines at much higher temperature that went into the atmosphere. Acid rain and smog in LA (caused by gasoline engines) are what lit off the war on NOx. Like any Government dogs they refuse to let something go once they put a label on it.
    Automobiles absolutely do not pollute the atmosphere with NOx. Why not you may ask? Well because auto exhaust is not superheated like a coal fired boiler. NOx is heavier than air, even at engine exhaust temperature. It simply settles to the ground and turns into dirt. The same applies to particulates. Relivent amounts have not been found since long before the war on diesel. This began in the mid 80s with acid rain in America (while coal powerplants operated with no filtration system for emissions. It started in Europe after the Dieselgate incident. Here's the kicker, US air quality with same temp and humidity as Europe was always worse. In Europe where everyone drove a Diesel until last year had much cleaner air. They've since become stone stupid and just buy whatever BS politicians in America are selling. Zero intelligence in EU Government now. It's become pathetic. Anyhow gas petrol engines operate at much hotter exhaust temperature and put more CO, CO2 in the air than an equivalent diesel even without a horse 🐴 piss injection system. Take this however you like but diesel is better for the environment and more efficient than petrol. Government is forcing people not to buy diesel with these completely stupid dirt (particulates) filters. Yes, they want to collect a miniscule amount of dust from tdi cars. It's all a farce with absolutely no facts to back the Draconian measures taken for something that was over with 30 years ago. Most of you probably won't remember acid rain. That's the reason for the war on diesel. Stupid Aholes don't care that the problem disappeared 30 years ago. They keep attacking.
