I’m thrilled to make this video about Newcastle and a Mexican footballer! You might wonder what they have in common. Well, one of the best football films was shot here. I’m in the north-west of England, in Newcastle, where they don’t speak English, they speak Geordie. I can’t wait to show you the locations where scenes from this beautiful story were filmed.
If you haven’t seen the film yet, here’s a brief summary: Santiago Muñez, a humble young man from Los Angeles, USA, strives to make his dream come true: to become a professional footballer. He lives a simple life, working in restaurants and playing football in his free time. One day, his talent is discovered by Glenn Foy, a former player who sees star potential in Santiago. Will he be able to overcome the obstacles and reach the top? Discover how Santiago leaves his home and travels to England to try his luck with Newcastle United. Despite the difficulties and initial scepticism, his passion and determination help him earn a place on the team.
Get ready for this tour, as you’ll see the seven most important locations from the film Goal. We’ll start at Central Station, located in the heart of the city. Then, we’ll walk for 10 minutes to reach Quayside and see the spectacular Millennium Bridge, one of Newcastle’s landmarks. From there, we’ll walk about 15 minutes to the Newcastle United stadium, the temple of football in the north of England. Finally, we’ll move to the coast, to Tynemouth and Cullercoats, where we’ll see four locations: Glenn’s workplace and home, Tyne school, and finally, Cullercoats beach.
Finally, we are at one of the most important places: Newcastle’s train and metro station, where Santiago arrives from London and is met by Glenn. This very spot is where the historic scene where Santiago’s dream begins was filmed. There’s the bridge! Can you imagine meeting Santiago and Roz on their first date at that bridge? I don’t want to interrupt them, so let’s leave them there and continue exploring.
