The hurt in that man over the way he was treated when he got home is heartbreaking...my dad is a Vietnam vet he has the same hurt...thank you Jose.
The salsa story was great !! Jose is the type of guy you want to be your neighbor..... he is great
Wouldn't be any crime on the block
💯🇺🇸
Today, May 11, 2022, we lost this amazing man, my brother in law, Jose Riojas. May you Rest In Peace … 😢
Agent Orange affected his heart that caused his death.
I read this interview with Jose several years ago. I was impressed how he never complained about the hand that life dealt to him and how he accepted it. From coming from a large family, doing migrant work, and surviving war and still not asking for compensation for what the government put him through. Until a family member encouraged him to file a claim with the VA. Very proud man.
@ 6:46 " I was their Man".....RIP Mr. Riojas
I have listened to so many of these interviews. This one stands out. How fortunate that you had the privilege of knowing this great man.
I appreciate the interviewer but let the guys talk during these interviews. You weren't there. No need to finish their sentences.
Jose Always was very kind and friendly. He is my age and we went to school together in Laurel. I’m so happy You’re still around Jose you’ve really been through it and you still have that wonderful smile I hope to see you again one day! Great interview!
This is wholesome. I'm watching the voices of Vietnam series and I'm glad to see that these people, who, at least in my eyes, are heros. Seeing someone talk about the veteran in the video that actually knew them humanizes them. Them talking about life after the war about working normal jobs (teacher, electrician, buisness/company owner) just makes you realize that they are just human, like you and I.
Mate i am 60 and in Australia,, Kinda grew up watching this on Tv as a kid and had an interest since,, I am not a walter Mitty or wrapped in the War thing. Australia fought there alongside America AS WE ALLWAYS Do. ,,, Good Bad or Indifferent we allways have a go.
Jose This is one of the most riveting and honest humble and Funny at times interviews i have ever seen in m y life.
your a hero mate and Thank You for doing this Interview,
Your welcome in Australia Any Day and feel free to drop me a line if you come.
We have free beer and food.
I feel we owe our lives to these guys

"We landed in Da Nang, April 1st, April fool's day, and it's been like that ever since...." 🤣 Welcome home brother, glad you made it back
God bless your mom , Jose. She did a wonderful job raising you boys. Thank you for service sir.
The family of this man is lucky. I bet he has contributed to hundreds of hours of laughter.
*I have watched every Vietnam Voices video and I even go back and listen to some of them all over again..sometimes I listen to them with my earbuds when I go to sleep (gives me some scary dreams sometimes) but I can’t believe these videos don’t have millions more views than they do and most of the videos are 5 years old or more (today is 2/2022). I wish these young kids would take some time and listen to these men tell their stories..maybe they would have more appreciation for their freedoms, their country and the life they have...even if they listened to one of the videos while playing a video game..or like I do,listen to them at night as you lay in bed.*
I do the exact same thing. I’ve been listening to them straight for four days. 10/30/23
There’s nothing like this that brings you closer to being there. I love these guys and I swear to God, I wish I was around when those protesters waited for these guys when they came home. It would be an honor to go to jail. Lol
One of the best and sensible interviews I have watched! What a Marine!

I asked my granddaddy, who volunteered at the age of 28, why he wasn't the hellraiser after Vietnam that I'd heard he was before. He simply said, "Son, war humbles a man". Watching these men, that saying certainly rings true! Most of them are so humble! Thank you, SIR, and if no one's told you WE LOVE YOU AND WELCOME HOME!!
Salute / thanks Jose ( Ree - haus )
You’re a good man to help your brother out like that he needed you you were their family

"We're seeing you too much around here." - a police officer (told Jose Riojas)
This is at least the 3rd one of these where the barber was VC.
I use to take a buddy with me when I went for a haircut and he had his m-16 lock and loaded and pointed at the barber and I also did for him, if he was VC he didn't screw with us. 68-70

The Billings Gazette conduct the best interviews.
Yes they do! I've seen over 40 interviews with this interviewer now and he's the best! Flexible and sometimes, at the right moment he's quiet. Excellent!Mr Rioja is excellent too!
Agreed. He dropped the ball big time on the lafontaine brothers but other than that, hes miles better than the other vet interviewers
Jose, you remind me so much of my grandfather. Thank you so much for sharing the experiences you had. God bless you
Absolutely one of the best if not the best interviews of these so far!
It’d be so cool if all these marines would bring a photo of them when they were in service
Great interview with Jose. Thanks for your service, I listened to every word. What a brave man for sure.
Jose, you are a true hero, I would love to be in a fox hole with this brave man.
You spent my entire time in high school in the Marines. God Bless you and your family. There are many people who would have thanked you when you came home. I lost a cousin to agent orange. Thank you so much for your service.
Only into the interview some 15 minutes. I truly like this guy. He just seems to be so on the up side. I would think he was so good to be around. Just a great positive person. Looking at the last few comments I see that he passed away. My true feelings to his Family. You had a great person I think. While I cannot actually Thank Him for his service, I can thank you (his family) for his service. Thank you all.
Good man!!!

Thank you great interview and whit
What a great interview and Guy! RIP Jose
I remember Falstaff beer in Da Nang....the cans were metal and covered in rust...no pull tabs. The bar tenders had big can openers on the bar with a large handle and punched the holes in the cans.....ca chunk ca chunk.
The labels were faded out from sitting in the sun so long. Bad beer

My neighbor is 2nd generation of Mexican immigrants and he was in Vietnam as well but in the Air Force. This fellow reminds me a little of him. The way he speaks and his mannerisms.
