After seeing them in a 50's Rock N Roll film, several years ago, I had to find more by them, so I bought a cd. No regrets. One of their best was, "Big Bad Wolf".
Burton Westerhout Lucky you...I saw them live in London in 1956, when they were the 'back-up' for Tommy Steele..! I cold have done without Tommy Steele AKA Tommy Hicks...DUH!
On this day in 1958 {April 20th} Freddie Bell and the Bellboys performed "Giddy Up A Ding Dong" on the CBS-TV variety program 'The Ed Sullivan Show'... Two years earlier on October 14th, 1956 "Giddy Up A Ding Dong" peaked at #4 {for 2 weeks} on the United Kingdom's National Music Express chart, it did not enter any of Billboard's U.S.A. charts... The sextet played the song in the 1956 rock 'n roll movie 'Rock Around The Clock'; they also performed a song titled "We're Gonna Teach You To Rock" {and of course it's available on You Tube}...
sauquoit13456 I remember Freddie and the "boys" in Rock/Clock...saw them on stage in London in 1956...Fantastic outfit!! I'm 80 now...SO MANY memories of the REAL R&R days...Hot Dog!!
I saw them In Rock around the clock when it was showing in London ❤first time and what an unforgettable experience Dancing Spirit Unfolding On You Tube
On this day in 1956 {March 21st} the Columbia Pictures' movie 'Rock Around The Clock' had it's world premier in New York City... Besides "Giddy Up A Ding Dong", Freddie Bell and the Bellboys also performed "We're Gonna Teach You To Rock" in the movie... Personal Note: In 1956 I was eleven years old, on Friday, May 4th, 1956 "Rock Around The Clock" started a one week run at the Olympic Theater in Utica, NY... The next day my friend, Phil Scott, and I when to the 12 noon showing of the movie {admission 10 cents}, after the film they turned up the house lights in order for the theater to empty... Phil and I hid under our seats so we could see the movie again without having to pay, and we did this also for the third showing... We most likely would have stayed again, but we both had to be home in time for supper {remember this was 1956 when families ate dinner as a family} ...
I always preferred this arrangement (I think this was actually performed live to camera) to what the Bellboys did on the record. The arrangement is so different that's why I think it was done live here instead of lip-synching to the record. It just has a smoother feel. Little did they know a guy named Elvis would fall in love with their recording of Hound Dog and have a minor hit about six months later. LOL
======== they are ok, but thank god for Elvis, his music and all-out rock format puts this "jump blues" stuff to shame. I don't call it rock & roll. Not til Elvis blended other genres like Country with Blues, along with Scott & Bill on Guitar & Bass that I think Rock really happened. Lots of folks elevate chuck berry, whom elvis loved, but both Elvis & Bill Hailey recorded rock before chuck did.
I just came upon this and saw that my uncle, Louis Cicchini, is on the drums for this band. How amazing! This is so cool to see.
Hey Drew, is your uncle Louis still alive?
@@u8226 Sadly, he is not. He passed back in the 70's, I believe. Such a great talent. I never got a chance to meet him.
@@drewsef06 your uncle?? He is my FATHER...
Nice to know I more relatives out there. :) Look me up on Facebook if you want. Are you on Jimmy's page?
@@venessacicchini52 No, Luke, I am your father.
Got to be one of the earliest Fender basses on film!
The bass player seems to be having a good time!
Was thinking the same thing.

Saw them live with The Platters in Singapore back in 1957!

This video puts a smile on my face, these guys are rocking it, it's fun!
Saw him live in 1957 at Festival Hall Melbourne, Bill Haley and the Comets, The Platters, Laverne Baker also, I was 12 years old
Looking back to my expectations from my first visit to the movie back in ‘56,these guys were an unexpected treat!
Sensational Alex Harvey Band did a great cover of this!
Yep, I only recently discovered it was a cover.
I was born in '58, and never heard of this group until watching them here tonight. Curious that they didn't have a more long-lasting reputation.
