Courtney may very well be one of the only new artists who can seriously outperform in any style of music she chooses. No one rocks on a stage like she does that I'm aware of. Only a few can put that much pure emotion into a ballad as she can. Any live performance she lets us see put the audiences in awe.
Hi. Always very cool Courtney reactions. I never cease to be amazed at what Courtney can do. A voice that can rock a stage one minute and then come back and rip your heart out with the rawness and intensity that she puts into a gritty ballad like this. Unmatched vocal power, control and versatility. Music is always a sensory experience, but when Courtney sings, it's as much of a visual experience as it is an audio one. It's like a wave of feeling and emotion that washes over you. I don't know of any other artiest that can create that kind of effect in her listeners, like Courtney can. Also, and I experienced this first hand when I saw her live at Carnegie Hall, Courtney is one of the greatest artists and vocalists I've ever heard, but when she's singing live, she somehow manages to elevate that greatness to a whole level. No one else like her in music, and it's always a privilege, and pure joy, to be able to see and hear her perform.
Rocking out hard,... she can do that. Soulful jazz,,, that too. Heart-wrenching ballads,... you bet. Plus the many other examples of different genres she over the last few years, she is on the way to showing that she will be the next biggest star over the next few decades.
Great reaction, 2 Gen! She's been performing for well over a decade, so one would think she's in her 30's or 40's. That's why the fact she's only 20 is mind-boggling! Agree with you about live performances . . . l They separate many artists that need to rely on the studio to enhance their product, from the few singers like Courtney who show you during their lives, that there is no studio assistance behind her amazing voice. For me, as much as I liked her original Call Me Back performance, I LOVED this one . . . When she turns on the gritty, raspy part of her emotional voice during the last third of the song, she goes where few singers can and is simply a spine-tingling and goosebump-producing spectacular, musical ride!
You're so right about live, especially with Call Me Back. When the lyric video came out, the lyrics on the screen of a cellphone on an otherwise blank screen, I said Hey this could be the official video, like George Michael's blank screen video for Praying for Time, the image so fitting for the lyrics. Then the official video came out and of course I said OK even better, silly me, who wouldn't rather see Courtney singing it, she puts so much feeling into performing, and she did keep the video simple and not distract from the lyrics, perfect. Courtney can totally control any listener. She owns you when you hear her. Her high energy songs can make you dance around the room. And when she sings a sad ballad, she makes you feel all the pain. (I have seen three different RUclips reviewers in tears at the end of "Call Me Back.") She is just incredible.
