I enjoy a lot Victor Merzhanov's version, Russian master. His arpegios are reminiscent of the Arabic lute, and the phrasing of his rendition has a rubato that, to me, is so much more romantic. Schumann was a romantic composer, and during that period the "arabesques" were popular following the literary tradition of the Thousand and One Nights.
