I brought a Rambo replica knife 36 years ago, as a toy, yes I was a kid and we could by those things back then. It had the survival items in the handle, with a compass in the end, they have all disappeared and broken. However, the blade and handle are just like new. I had to bolt tight the blade once! It just goes to show that cheap doesn't always mean bad.

I wrote those off as kind of crappy initially. My Dad seen it and asked if he could keep it. I said sure. He gave that knife a considerable going over, he did not say much about it but a week later he bought a few more of them himself. He did all kinds of neat stuff with them. One he fashioned or modified so it can not only be used for a knife but put on the end of a long thick wood dowel and used like a spear. Pop's has been using them for about 10 years now. They seemed to be made of decent stainless steel, so if someone is on a budget and needs a good blade for emergencies, that is a definite go too for sure.

Hey brother, my late father bought me one of these 10 years ago and I wrote it off as junk and gave it to my son to have without giving it a chance but after watching your video yesterday I went and bought a new one. I'm looking forward to modding it out and taking it on a knife only over nighter. Thanks for the awesome video my dude!

I got me one of these knives and I did your trick of drilling the hole all the way through and putting a metal pin in but I also pulled the blade out of the handle and JB welded it in there with the pain on top of pouring high-impact epoxy about an inch into the handle

You just solved my problem. I have been trying to find a bowie sized knife that doesn't cost over $20.00 to use in my gardening chores that I can dig with, cut string, small roots, branches, etc. and not worry about messing it up and paying a lot to replace it. All of my gardening trowels have ended up broken because the neck between the handle and blade bend and eventually break. Especially when I am transplanting something from one area to another in my flower beds, or I am trying to dig a volunteer tree out of my flower beds or vegetable garden and don't want to damage the surrounding plants by using a broad shovel. With a large knife I can cut around the plant, loosen the dirt and pry most of it out. Should work for digging dandelion roots as well. Still have to be careful to not bend the knife while prying, but it is definitely stronger than the garden trowels, and sharper than the notched root pullers that are sold for that purpose.

good work. you know... I had one of those rambo knives back in the boy scouts... and then later when I had a farm we used it for a "stall knife" where it basically sat out in the elemnts for years and put a lot of heavy work in.... for a $30 knife that was supposedly a piece of crap according to knife snobs, it has put in over 30 years of hard labor, has kept rust off, and the only complaint is that it has to be sharpened more often than a better steel, but otherwise it performed well. Right now it sits attached to one of our backup "guest bug out bags"

I watched your previous video where you replaced the grub screw with a steel pin.
Being one for over-engineering things (you know - just to make sure), I think I would use something like a stainless steel roll-pin instead of a drill bit, as drill bits are generally somewhat brittle. But it's stood up to you beating hell out of it, so it would appear to be OK 😄

Now if you can manage to do something with MREs to make them as Awesome as that knife you would have achieved nirvana......no , seriously though , that was a gnarly job brother. I have a couple of questions . 1) what thickness of leather do you think would work out for a khukuri sheath . 2) how did you sew the pouch on the front without it interfering with the main section of the sheath ? I would like to make something similar for my khukuri with a little slot added for a ferro rod and instead of internal slots for the two small blades I would be putting them on the outside of the sheath. The last time I did any leather work I was like 12 or 13 ( many many years ago) .

I see where you've used the bike tyre tube for a little extra grip. Have you tried that self-sealing/sticking silicone tape? I have used it on a 13 inch pig sticker. The Olive wood handle was too small in the grip for me, and was a bit slippy. No good when you're trying to stick a boar. So I got some ribbed silicone tape and wrapped the handle in that. It is very grippy, even when wet. Added bonus is the handle now snugly fits into a length of stainless thin gauge pipe I have here which effectively turns it into a four-foot spear with a 13-inch tip.

I find a better material to do the pin.
      Use a motorcycle engine valve.
Super hard steel for the job.

I wrap the handle in ray skin and pin it with bamboo. Then, I ground the tip of the blade into an American Ninja tanto.

and if you look around you could get a mora companion which is made to a higher quality standard and about 2$ more and wouldn't require you to drill a hole and put a pin in it to make it reliable..
