Great video. I like them tucking the limit screws out of the way of all the mud, water and salt. A smart move in my opinion.
In retrospect i like it too…just need some sort of indicator on the cover.
Also Dave, the clutch adjustment is the nut under that cap where the high & low screws are,
Much appreciated
I hate installing hoses in to the back of the shifter, as it's so fiddly doing the nut up. So I now cut the hose to length and then remove the shifter from the bar, tighten the nut on and then put the shifter back on the bar. Makes it so much easier!
Why didn’t I do it that way?
It’s a good idea actually putting adjustment screws under the cap, it’s made for gravel which equals muddy wet derailleur, this should offer some protection for the threads etc
Makes sense…but I’d like something more identifiable so I know they are there.
I see so many reviews that say it's far cheaper. But only if you have the rest of the groupset. So if you want to go wireless it makes sense because you'd have the missing hardware.
It’s just cheaper…the sram levers, brakes and rear mech will cost over £800. You’re right though…most people already have a crank and cassette so it’s a great upgrade.
Cranks, and even gearing, is more of a personal item anyway, better logistically to buy them separately to fit your bike, and body, and riding style
Wicked review! Did you get it from wheeltop direct Dave? Did you pay any taxes if so?
Hello, im having trouble on my installation. I am stuck on gear 5. I cannot shift to the hardest 4 gear though i have loosen the h-screw. Did u encounter this issue?
How many speed are you running?
Was just thinking, if/when we get wireless electronic braking, you will be able to easily swap handlebar setups according to riding situation. Like drop bars to flat bars.
Wireless braking is something I’ll always be scared of
How big casette can it handle? Up to 50-52 t? How big is yours? Is there any way to replace the rear mech battery when it will be loosing it's performance?
Currently max 52T
Yes the max is 52, I don’t think there is an official way to replace the battery…but looking at it I believe you could if you could get hold of the parts.
Does wheel top have this for a MTB setup? I don't ride with drop bars and have ditched my hydraulic brakes for mechanical Avid BB7.
Yes it is called the EDS OX
Yes and it’s amazing
@@DaveNoakes do you need a UDH frame for the derailleur?
Yes. Wheeltop's first wireless transmission was for MTB and used to look like Roblox versions of SRAM AXS. They later pulled them out from the market probably to avoid a lawsuit then reintroduced a new version that chargers like Di2
@@stevemullin1195no its not using the T-type mount, so you can use it with any frame.
Was a super easy to install, but setting up the gears is so so painful. I'm getting to the point of sticking my old GRX back on it.
It's cheaper, but is it better in any regard? Right now I think it is too risky to buy it as I have a nagging feeling they rushed a late beta version of the product into the market, just like ltwoo did with their first erx.
This is definitely not rushed…i used the early ox mtb stuff and they have refined it so much. I’m not sponsored or have any affiliation with Wheeltop…the GeX is genuinely really damn good.
Everyone I’ve shown it to and has ridden my bike agrees. It exceeds expectations. I’ve not used ltwoo so can’t compare…but compared so sram and shimano it’s easily as good.
@DaveNoakes thanks. Still it's worth waiting for some long term reviews to see what issues people will have with it, if any. I am also concerned about wheeltops's after sale's support, that is how will they honor any warranty claims and rewursts for any spare parts. In this regard for comparison I have an awful experience with ltwoo who simply does not give an f about you, or at least if you're a western retail buyer...
HI Dave, was this sent to you for free by wheeltop?
Hiya, yes they sent it for me for free. They did ask how much I would charge for a vlog…i said nothing as i wanted to be able to properly review it.
@@DaveNoakes early days but it seems great, looking forward to a 500mile follow up etc, thanks
Why does the mechanism only support cassettes from 11 teeth and not 10? Most modern 12-speed cassettes start from 10 teeth.
10t will have you run microspline or xdr which is not budget friendly than just a standard hg freehub body that start on 11t. There’s a lot of busget 12sp chinese brand cassette that use hg standard.
I have tried it, 10T is actually ok, I guess they are more conservative on it.
I’ve tried it on a 10-51 and it’s fine.
@@DaveNoakes Great news! Thanks!
One day I'll need to take the plunge and set up my own disc brakes. I can do the rest, but the brakes intimidate me.
Same here…but if I slow down and take time it’s been hassle free.
🛠️🌞🚴😃👍
👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Will it work with mechanical or rim brakes??? I am more than a little concerned that no feline safety engineers were present to oversee this upgrade.....
There is a mechanical/rim brake version 👌🏼 it was the cats day off today 😂
