  • Rescued from a well-played 1980s VHS tape so the quality is not great.

    Wow, that descended into total chaos very fast. Never seen Degville as angry as that before.

    This is why I love this band! Absolute CHAOS live!! Wildly original, synthpunk insanity.

    They should have been welcomed with open Wallets and Arms! They Invented what was popular in pop music 20+ years later. Those synth bass lines are in many pop productions today

    Omg this is awesome audio with the siren echo from Neils guitar feedback- listened to this endlessly& seems wierd to see a live video all these decades later! ☺☺😃

      And Yana was the last to leave the stage!

      @FilmsByColinBishop 3 года назад +3

      @@robinebay Yana once told me that as she was usually quite far in the corner she didn't suffer the amount of missiles that the rest of the group did. However, she did say hands reaching up her skirts was a common issue!

    • @robinebay
      @robinebay  3 года назад +4

      Blimey! I wish there was a proper interview with Yana. She must have so many amazing stories from her time in Sputnik and yet I can't recall ever seeing her interviewed. And her life before and after Sputnik has been unusual and interesting too.

    • @FilmsByColinBishop
      @FilmsByColinBishop 3 года назад +6

      @@robinebay Agreed. I understand what TJ was doing with her being the almost unofficial sixth member, because it has a built-in Irony to it. Doubly so because of quite how talented she is. I dont think many fans realise how much of the artwork she created (all the gig posters for sure) not to mention how she rose to the challenge of becoming reasonably adept at the keyboard. Additionally her roots with the Birmingham and London club scene is lost to time. She had an awful lot of involvment with early Duran Duran too. Which is likely how Martin wound up in the Planet Earth video!

    • @robinebay
      @robinebay  3 года назад +5

      Now that is top knowledge! I had no idea that Yana was connected to Duran Duran or that Martin was in their first video. That does remind me of an amusing Martin cameo ... three years before playing the Albert Hall, he was there to watch Siouxsie and the Banshees and he was briefly filmed pre-gig. You can see him here ruclips.net/video/d9wJykYi8fM/видео.html

    Hard to believe nowadays a band going on stage and being spat on and had glass bottles etc being thrown at them but was common years ago

    • @robinebay
      @robinebay  3 года назад

      It certainly was. In the 80s, I liked to go down the front at gigs but the spitting was sometimes horrific.

    • @FilmsByColinBishop
      @FilmsByColinBishop 3 года назад

      @@robinebay The spitting and the Moshing/ Pogoing was a killer combo. Suprised I never suffered a concusion. This gig has the last sighting of the Simmons SDS-8 drum pads. Looks like they were replaced with the SDS-9 pads for the Clockwork Tour. Chris and Ray did retain the SDS-8 drum brain unit though.

    • @robinebay
      @robinebay  3 года назад

      @@FilmsByColinBishop I don't think I was concussed but I was kicked in the head by a crowd-surfer at a Hole gig in 1991. I have no idea about SSS's equipment ... possibly due to that crowd-surfer!

    Where have i saw a clip of this?
    The Patsy Kensit narrated 'Story of..'? And i believe the Ray Mayhew bottle throwing incident was the next year (as was the MD coin throwing incident)?

      There's a bit of this show in the Confrontation video that Tony put out in 2013 ruclips.net/video/1l7jtQq2uOQ/видео.html
      Yes, the bottle and the coin were in 1986 at Reading and Coventry, just a couple of months after this show.

      Thats the one..cheers!
      Got a q for u Robin...SSS Wikipedia says 'invited to perform on The Tube' Do you know if they did play? (We know they did the interview with Muriel G)

    • @robinebay
      @robinebay  3 года назад +2

      They didn't play on The Tube. Definitely. But they were featured a few times. Firstly, Muriel Gray introduced the trailer for F1-11 then on a later episode she interviewed Tony and Martin which did not go well. Finally, they were indeed invited to appear on a special "Euro Tube" edition on 5 July 1986. They didn't appear which Muriel explained was because "share prices in the Sputnik Corporation have plummeted". I'll be uploading that clip soon(ish).
      Incidentally, Sputnik's first ever TV appearance on Bliss in 1985 was also introduced by Muriel Gray and she wasn't impressed then either!

      @Orb_E 3 года назад +2

      Haha..yes, but Martin got her back at the Glasgow gig (his 'abbatoir' quip!)
      It's a shame they didn't play as they would've blown everyone else off the stage :(

  • @kidvicious2180

    One Question, why did they even went to the gig if they hate the band anyway?

    • @robinebay
      @robinebay  3 года назад +2

      It wasn't a regular gig, it was a festival over four days. Presumably some of the audience had gone to see bands other than Sputnik.
      However, by the Feb/March 1986 UK tour, some people were certainly going to Sputnik gigs just looking for trouble and with very little interest in the actual music.

      @@robinebay They did totally missjudged them. i could cry i hate EMI for what they did to them, forced their own Vision (Sound) on them, even trhe bass sound on Flaunt It was not the one that James usually used, forced them to work with Stock Aitken Waterman on Dress For Excess and then dropped them.... They destroyed the essence of Sputnik in my humble opinion
