    For those asking about the Schwalbe Albert and it's radial casing...
    I tested the tires more after this test once all the info on the radial casing was released. I rode with more pressure which did improve lateral support. The issue was anything over 30psi front/32psi rear and the tires became extra responsive-in a bad way. Increasing pressure didn't seem to make the casing much firmer under the tread, so when hitting rocks and bumps, the tire still deformed, but the extra pressure seemed to increase the tire's rebound.
    I haven’t found anything from Schwalbe that says ‘run more pressure.’ They say you can run higher pressures and still receive a larger contact patch. But from my testing, pressure solved one issue and introduced another with the Albert Gravity.
    More of my thoughts on the Albert/radial casing here - www.vitalmtb.com/forums/hub/tire-chat-nerds-only?page=10

      It has been said they started off of some equal pressure and adjusted for maximum "performance" (don't know if it means grip or whatnot), so the tyres been given their best chance. And what are the actual numbers - why would anyone care since it is sooooo personal.
      Should you need a reference, use some online calculator.

    awesome roundup, i really appreciate the explanations of the scores, especially side by side by side. disappointed in various manufacturers not putting rubber in the ring, like specialized, WTB, goodyear, bontrager, and smaller brands like delium and american classic. Very excited to see less common tire manufacturers like vee, kenda, and e*thirteen pop up in the roundup, to shed more light onto alternatives to the big yellow.
    though having so many might make testing a nightmare for you guys.

    I wonder if the Schwalbe's would've done better if you upped the psi -- I just got a pair & at normal psi's they were noodly, but upped pressures @4psi (which they recommend), & made em feel waaaay better.....!

      Exactly my thoughts, the reason it isn't digging into looser terrain might be caused by the pressure being too low and therefore the load is being spread across all the knobs which won't allow them to "dig in".

    I like the Kryptotals more in the Enduro casing. A bit more lively and even tho I was afraid that they'd slash easily they've held up really well. Way stronger than the weight would suggest. They also roll very good in relation to the grip level. And a bonus for someone living in a cold climate: they keep their grippyness when the weather gets colder way better than Maxxis MaxxGrip or MaxxTerra.

    The trick with the Conti DH casings is to run about 2 psi less than Maxxis. I run the exact same combo of Kryptotals you tested on a RM Altitude and they're by far my favorite tires. The front rides a lot like the Assegai but without the vagueness of the Assegai. The rear is hands down the best back tire I've ridden and if you prefer the feel of say a DHF up front I think these would do very well up front too. They also roll a bit faster than the bog standard Assegai/DHR2 combo so if you're pedaling uphill they're certainly the winner of this test. I am now curious to try a HR3 up front, but I've heard it rolls slower than the Assegai so would definitely be a front only affair outside of a park bike or ebike.

    I've been riding Continental Kryptotal front and Xynotal on the rear in their enduro casing on my enduro bike. I agree about the feedback increase from the squishy Maxxis tires, but the speed increase and predictability of the grip is very appreciated. I've got 230 miles on a set of Conti Kryptotal front (DH casing super soft) and Xynotal rear (DH casing soft) tires and I'm in love. Not only a huge improvement in grip but also a better "damped" feel and the HUGE different is in how SLOW they wear! 330 miles on these and my Maxxis tires would have been TOAST by this point, but the Conti's are still doing so good! For bike park laps I would choose a Michelin DH22 over the enduro version. I think Michelin makes a very top tire contender for best all rounder with the Assegai ,Magic Mary and Kryptotal . Maxxis still makes the best tires out there IMO,tons of options. I tested this summer DH22 front DH16 rear in my DH bike, very good combo but the DH16 changes in a few days of ride and lost a ton of grip. Michelin tires had a little more feedback than other tires, easy to ride on the edge.
    I like the DH Butcher for rear tire in my enduro bike, decent rolling very good grip.

    • @mrvwbug4423

    • @josemorenoporras7506
      @josemorenoporras7506 7 дней назад

      @@mrvwbug4423 I got that combo all summer and is still good to go. The DH 16 is a very fast tire,it changes cos tire knobs wear fast till certain point but the tire is still good. DH 22 on the front could go another full season 100%. Those are not a 1 lap tires IMO,it is true that wear faster than a Schwable or Conti tires, but not far from Maxxis max gripp or Specialized T9 tires. I did more than 20 full days of Loudenville,Luchon (steep AF) and La Pinilla bike park 0 issues, very happy rides.
      To me the new DH22 is one of the best overall tires out there,it goes well in any terrain and the feedback in corners is impressive. Other good thing to mention is those tires do not catch mud easy and are decent for wet summer laps in muddy trails. For the rear tire a harder compound would be nice, Michelin need offer more options like Maxxis or Conti.

    The Vittoria Mostro should have been in the FRONT! I have been running the Mazza in the front for a year and I just switched for the Mostro in 4C compound and it was an absolute game changer! So much more predictable than the Mazza. I like the Mazza in the rear because it doesn’t have the transition nob and follows the front wheel better while cornering atc. Also running the soft 1C compound which is meant for wet conditions was a big error imo. The 4C compound is the way to go for main season riding.

      @@KlintonSilvey I’m looking forward for comparing the 4C x 1C compound but unfortunately the 1C compound won’t be available until January where I live 🥲 I can write my findings here after I compare them. But I’m glad to hear that it works better in wet, because that’s the only thing that the 4C is missing. I’ll definitely be running it in the summer season though, it’s really good on dry and loose stuff imo.

    • @_MC_-gw6yp
      @_MC_-gw6yp 8 дней назад

      @@cunning-stunt Yeah, it was really odd tbh. I had the Mazza in the front and even though I love Vittoria, I wasn’t happy. I just couldn’t tell why exactly, but it didn’t give me much confidence. I realized why after I switched to the Mostro.
      The Mazza has a really pronounced “dead zone” between the center and side knobs, which made you loose a bit of grip while leaning the bike over, so for example while riding flat corners, you would start the corner, get into the dead zone and lost the line a little bit and then you had to correct it when the side knobs hooked.
      The Mostro compare to this has absolutely smooth transition without any dead zone. I was even amazed on how much you can carve a turn on asphalt road, the transition is just so confident inspiring.
      The side knobs protrude a little bit more than the transition nobs and my theory is that is the reason why the transition to side knobs is so smooth. It just works, I really recommend it. I’m interested in the 1C compound though, possibly better grip in wet, but it will definitely loose the magical low rolling resistance of the 4C

My buddy bought a set of radial Alberts & hated them, so the different carcasses/tread pattern/compounds may have something to do with it, but radial technology IS the future.
      I ride in the Northeast so that may be why they work so well for me & not in the Northwest. All I can say, if one negative test closes your mind to the huge improvement in confidence that radials provide, you'll regret it. My first ride impressions are the stiffer sidewall less compliant/comfort than Maxxis. I did feel the front hooked up well. I've found that with the Conti's I can run a little less pressure compared to the Maxxis DD I usually run because of the firm side support the continentals offer, to gain more compliance. Also the super soft is the way to go front and rear (I found the soft is a okay in the rear, but not my favorite in the front), it lasts longer that Maxxis Maxgrip and offers great grip although I still feel MG is maybe a bit grippier compound overall.

They are much harder to install compared to DD Maxxis I have installed, which I can install in no time. I run my Continental DH casings without an insert, even on my heavy 160e.

      @superawesomefuntimego I have carbon rims so maybe I'm being bougie hahaha but I've got the hang of it. The cushcore helpers help a lot man. Been thinking of taking em out tho. Just scared of busting a carbon rim lol

    High roller vs DHR2

    Only problem I find with Maxxis compared to conti’s is wear rate. Both me and a friend had brand new tyres in Morzine for a week. My DHR 2 is nearly dead, whereas my mates krypotal re will easy do another week or two. I do like Maxxis but they would honestly cost me double a year in tyres especially on the ebike.

      For sure. I love the performance of Maxxis tires but they wear too quickly for me, especially in the rear and especially when I'm running the Maxxgrip compound in the wetter half of the year. The wear rate is the number one reason I'm considering Continental tires next dry season.

      Yeah, the Dissector is my favorite Maxxis rear tire, but holy hell do they wear out fast. The only Maxxis tire that doesn't wear out fast is the Assegai.

    Love my Kryptotal Trail Endurance front and Xynotal Trail Endurance rear combo for aggressive trail riding

      I love Kryptotals but would NEVER run the endurance compound up front. The people who gives Kryptotals bad reviews make the mistake of Trail endurance on both ends.

      @@mrvwbug4423 Yea, they should drop that endurance compound for anything other than XC/Marathon. Rock hard & limited grip.

    I haven't ridden any Schwalbe radial tire yet, and I'm undecided if I like the brand. *But* it seems unfair to release a review of a product that you unknowingly used improperly (too low pressure) and claim that this would make it more impartial.

      We were given zero information about the tire and rode it before the tire came out. It would have been nice to have been given information from schwalbe but unfortunately we weren’t given the information. Also, our normal pressures are higher than what most people typically run. Jason did put the tire back on his bike recently and will be doing a follow up on the site.
