I did a project on ferns and I was amazed how many varieties there are. I was told I was silly and nobody would want them at the nursery I was at but every one I did went before they were ready. I was going to keep them for making more but they sold them quick lol. showed them hehe
Learned a lot about the fascinating way ferns reproduce at school last week. Gives a really cool insight into the evolution of plant reproduction, and a very nice plant of course. Thanks for the video
Thank you for this great introduction to growing ferns! I love how you keep things real and your true self really shines through 🌟. Just subscribed and looking forward to watching more of your videos! Thank you from Australia 🍀🌺
Hello! Thanks so much for this amazingly informative share. I've just been looking for your follow up to this vid and found nothing... have you successfully got to the prothali(?) stage, or even further, and if so, what comes next? Best wishes! 😊
Love your videos - your compassion is catching. I got myself an indoor cyclamen and now all i want is seeds to grow. Did you ever find out if you can cross pollinate cyclamen?
Hi Douglas Marshall, I’m pretty sure I managed to cross pollinate some cyclamen but still waiting for them to flower, hopefully have some results next year! Bit of a waiting game but worth it in the end. Thanks for watching, all the best of luck with your cyclamen seeds, Robbie 🌻
Hi Paige Turner, I really should pay more attention to my appearance! I don’t know where any of my clothes come from, I certainly haven’t bought any for years, they just seem to appear from nowhere and then disappeared for sometimes months on end before reappearing again! I should work on getting a bit of vanity in my being. I think the t-shirt was from my sister, not sure, it’s her humour and I do struggle with social occasions!Since it’s now clear that wearing clothes (and shoes) until they are literally held together with hope and string is the best thing for the planet so, I’m doing my bit, with the help of the clothes and shoes fairies, well that’s my excuse 🙄
@@stinkyditchnursery750 we were on hols recently and my hubbie’s shoes gave up. He had to get another pair and then stood in the middle of the town by the bin. I thought he was saying farewell to his trusty shoes but I should have know better… he was actually taking the laces out of them before they went to RIP. Apparently there was nothing wrong with the laces 🤣
How are your ferns doing mate? Im propagating 4 spiecies i collected in Gouda back in August. And i wonder if i can transfer some of them to a small pot already. Looking foreward to your next vid cause i can't find that many videos on that step in the propagation procces.
Hi Tea_and_thyme_2012, so sorry for the late reply. If they are in a sealed container they should stay damp for ages but probably best to check every few weeks. If the compost does start to dry then give in a drenching with a mister. I hope this helps Robbie
Hi Zoe, soil is fine so long as it’s not water logged and contains lots of organic matter like leaf mould or garden compost. I hope this helps, Robbie 🌻
Thank you for such a lovely happy video! Got a great big smile on my face now, plus I know more about ferns 😊
Great video, thank you!

totally underrated plants.
Fantastic
Fascinating. Never imagined there was so much involved. Nice Green House by the way.
I've got some ferns in my yard that I've been thinking about for sometime now... thanks for inspiring a new project Robbie!
Loved this video! I’ve been a big fan of ferns since I was 20.
You guys are great! I love the energy ❤ thank you for teaching us something new!

very informative and great video work James!
Victorians loved their ferns , that’s the reason there’s a fern depicted on custard creams.
Thank you for your friendly informative video.
Amazing! Thanks u for sharing
Love your t-shirt Robbie & your content 👍

Hi Robbie what is going on with the ferns, im going to try this today but would like to see your follow up vids to help me get the next bit right. 🤞
Brilliant, thank you!
Can you tell us more about your soil medium. I couldn’t make that out. Was it copra? Or core?
This is amazing!!! We got heaps of fern at our backyard. How often do you water the closed box?
Thanks for sharing this.😊

what about fern in the wild? did it need sterile too?
Are the ferns ready?
Are we supposed to ignore your t-shirt Robbie? 😅 I love ferns!

@@stinkyditchnursery750 I hear you 👍🏼

How is it that they grow lusciously in the wild, but they need a sterile container if one tries to grow them? 😢
It’s because they rely on numbers and is very very high so only a few succeed
In a container a high chance of mould develops, in wild ventilation plus saves mixture of unwanted plant life development.

Any chance of a Stinky Ditch walkabout Robbie...its Cyclamen time!
Hi Darren Brett, will do a tour today, haven’t done one since July so it’s about time!! Thanks for the nudge, all the best Robbie
Nice 3:26
Brilliant video Robbie. Once you put them outside do you not need to water them at all?

must it be compost, or can it be soil?
Hi Zoe, soil is fine so long as it’s not water logged and contains lots of organic matter like leaf mould or garden compost. I hope this helps, Robbie 🌻
Can you do this using mixed spores from different fern types?
Oh yes, give it a try, you will just get a mix of adults. All the very best of luck Robbie 🌻
@@stinkyditchnursery750 thank you for your answer. I wanted to make sure they wouldn't kill each other or something like that
Not able to follow
I know a very simple, maintenance-free way to breed ferns, it's shocking. but this is my secret
mine went brown 🫣
