  • Migrating to an all-new CAM platform can be a daunting prospect for a working machine shop. In this case study, we sat down with Seattle job shop Machinists Inc and discussed the challenges in migrating to a new software platform.
Getting staff up to speed as quickly as possible is key to minimize downtime. To facilitate the transition to the new software, Machinists Inc. relied on the engineering staff of Applied CAx, a Siemens software reseller that also operates a working machine shop and FEA consultancy. Starting with several sessions of onsite training, Applied engineers followed up with mentorship that stepped in weekly to help answer questions and troubleshoot challenges that came up.
With a working knowledge of the progressive software platform NX provides, Machinists Inc. has achieved dramatic reductions in their programming times. Utilizing NX automation tools has opened up new options in their workflow. Being able to run simulations within CAM has eliminated the need for additional software such as Vericut. Theyʼre also achieving high reuse from their developed templates and posts.
