  • I recently ran my Massey Ferguson 180 Diesel out of diesel and had to bleed the air out of the lines. Simple enough for most people and as it turns out, simple enough for me too.

    Was the same process for my old Volvo T500, worked like a charm. Thank you for the clear instructions. Just a small thing for mine, I couldnt reach the 4th injector so I didn't open that one. Still worked, if anyone has expierence I would love to know how to get to that bolt without stripping it, for next time I run out :)

    Thanks for showing the fuel bleeding process on the Massey Ferguson.
    I recently bought an old Massey Ferguson 185 and the main detail difference that I can see is that my primary and secondary fuel filters are on the opposite side to the injector pump.
    I still have a slight leak on one of the fuel filters which is a bit of a nuisance,-after changing the fuel filters.
    The first thing I did after I got the tractor home changed the engine oil and filter and the air filter, and the fuel filters.
    Now I still have a bit of a leak on one fuel filter.

    Thank you so much! My brand newly installed fuel gauge failed and I ran out of diesel in my MF 180 today. I was by myself but was able to follow your instructions to a to bleed the fuel lines. My tractor started and I was able to get it out of the field and back to the barn before it froze tonight. Thank you, thank you!! I appreciate your video and help!

    I did this many years ago without any instruction; the180 started the first time. I did take note in your video that you said the starter won't engage if it's in gear; well mine did, and because I was not being careful by making sure it was in neutral, it very nearly run over me standing ahead of the rear tire as I turned the key. I stepped up onto the step ahead of the battery compartment and pulled the fuel shut off to kill the engine. Lesson learned. Another person commented his fuel gauge stopped working; so has mine, but I take the worry out of it by using a long wooden handled ballpien hammer that I carry on the tractor and use that as a fuel checker; beats running out of fuel.

    • @PrattFamilyHomestead

      Wow scary about the tractor starting in gear on you!!!! And the wood handle is an excellent idea!!

    Dear new friend, you saved me a lot of trouble with my old Massey Ferguson MF35 diesel. I ran it out of gas and although I have watched a few videos in the past of bleeding the air from the lines and filters and so forth none of them were anywhere near as exact as yours. I was able to follow your instructions and apply them to my old tractor and it solved my problem and she fired right up and runs great again. It did seem that most of the air was trapped in the injector pump for me. Thanks for a great show and tell video.

    Thank you for putting this together! I changed out my fuel filter and needed to bleed the fuel line. I knew to do the first 2 steps but still wouldn't start. That was an excellent tutorial with nice clear instructions and footage! If you get stuck trying to do the bleed by yourself again and can't see if there's air bubbles because you're on the pump side, you could always set up your phone to film the valve or vent _(one of those little gorilla tripods would be useful)_ and then check the footage after pumping? You should do a _"Pratt-ical Mechanics with Mike and Jeni!"_ video series! :) 🚜 🛠

    • @PrattFamilyHomestead
      @PrattFamilyHomestead  6 лет назад

      The video camera is a great idea and I almost did that. When the tractor was actually down, Jeni was not doing good (post surgery). So if I couldn't get it started, I was considering filming it. And I don't think we are ready for PFH mechanical tutorials LOL. Thanks Simon!!

    Great job Mike! She sounds awesome. I'm in the same boat. Not a mechanical bone in my body, But if I have the time to sit down and slowly work on it I can figure out what is wrong and how to fix it, If not I would rather pay someone who knows exactly what to do and I don't have to worry about screwing something else up in the process.

    • @PrattFamilyHomestead
      @PrattFamilyHomestead  6 лет назад +1

      That is me exactly. I don't mind the high $$$ so that I don't have to do it, or try to cram it. But that is also how I grew up. My Dad also had no desire to work on cars, but he would do just about anything else!!
