- West Ham United take on an improved Chelsea team at The London Stadium for the early Premier League game live on TNT Sports. Julen Lopetegui is likely to recall Lucas Paqeuta to the starting line up and there are late fitness tests to Niclas Fullkrug and Emerson. Gary & Chris share the expected starting line up and discuss how we can best hurt Chelsea.
We cannot be starting Antonio. He's done lads, been awful this season.... and for that matter has been poor in previous 2 seasons imo.The definition of insanity keep doing the same things and expecting different results

Its weird how a lot of people now dont want to see kudus in the 10, when earlier in the season everyone wanted to see it.
For me I would still like to see a midfield of alvarez as the 6,paq as the 8 and kudus as the 10 first before trying other variations.
I would like to see it but I do not see him suddenly becoming a player who feeds others. When he gets a run there is only one thing on his mind and it is not getting his head up and finding a team mate. But maybe he can do it

I would keep Bowen on the right ( his assists are just to valuable ) and play Kudus in the 10 role/second striker behind Fullkrug .
I would be happy to try that but I don’t yet see the passing to his team mates needed to be a number 10

No matter what the defence is, with Emerson out we are vulnerable down one flank.. AWB at LB shores up the left but if Coufal plays Bowen won't be in the game. Kudus can defend and run with the ball from deep so put him on the right with Bowen up top. If Emerson is fit then it's not too bad as with AWB at RB Sancho and Palmer are covered hopefully. This is a massive game for West Ham from top to bottom.

I’ll tell ya, it’s Chelsea, I hate Chelsea, my best West Ham memories are of beating Chelsea, my first and only Upton Park experience was a come from behind win in ‘12, and then, watching from OCNJ USA for an “Indian Summer Beach weekend” was the last win at Upton Park against Chelsea on 24/10/2015, the survival summernite win a the London in that strange year 2020, and an odd midsummer’s night,safety sealed by your favorite Ukrainian and mine, Dre Yarmo!, even the last few years, the one an only Masuaku goal sealed a home win a few years back, and last years fixture was a good home win, so, I’m going with Areola AWB, Tobido, Killman, Emerson (if fit, of course) Soler Roddy, and Alvarez in the middle and Kudus Bowen Summerville. Nope I thought Antonio was decent against City, he ran his socks off but it was City. He never should have played v Fulham but it doesn’t suddenly mean he is useless. I’d rather we had better but he isn’t useless, he’s an impact player now

Fullkrug is worse than antonio, we should of got a premier proven striker which we could of in duran if we hadnt messed around thinking he was a cert becouse villa needed to balance the books at the time they didnt by the time we re aproched them, i bet fulljrug dnt get 10 goals this season ,bad buisness the price we paid his age no sell on value ,
I would have loved to have seen us get Duran so much potential , but how is he proven ? .

@@strangeexchange1 better goals to mins ratio doesn't prove anything over a season and a bit , longevity does , when he can score 15 + goals a season for a few season thats what I would say was proven . Don't get me wrong Antonio has never been a consistently good striker , and I wasn't happy with the Fullkrug signing either .

If you want someone up top to press Ings is the one. He definitely works the hardest of all our strikers. Antonio doesn’t press for toffee, or at least presses in the first 10 minutes then is knackered. I’d honestly give Ings a go, he’s looked sharp so far.
I'd start Ings but not as a pressing striker. Can't see Lopetegui pressing at all. Soucek will start.

@@GaryKillington For some managers & Head Coaches, being "awful", means NOTHING. They pick a player because that player does what the manager likes. Soucek for instance.

Antonio looks bored, tired and done. Give Ings a go. If he nicks a goal it will turbo charge his confidence. He might have his best season yet.

Turning the players into a team that enjoys playing with each other is the most important thing. So they must buy into the coaches ideas.⚒⚒⚒

Steidten and Lopetegui must have had an ideal first team choice with players who could rotate to keep everyone fresh, but playing in their best position, we obviously haven’t seen this or a preferred tactical structure yet.
Both Bowen and Kudus can play on that right side, but to accommodate both within the team, Lopetegui has put Kudus on the left, which isn’t his favoured position. There has got to become a game where one is drooped, but I cannot see Chelsea being that game.
Lopetegui also likes a big man up front, if Füllkrug isn’t ready, then expect Antonio again.
Our midfield has a few options, either the double pivot or drop Alvarez or Rodriquez for Soler. But can you successfully play Paqueta and Soler together?
Personally I don’t believe Lopetegui is totally happy with this squad because he doesn’t have truly two players for every position, hence why AWB has played both flanks and others are playing out of position to effectively change the game.
The squad is a conundrum which will upset many fans, and with the inclusion of Soucek playing in place of one of the preferred number tens from the start is worrying.
As Chris said, this is why we are not sitting in the dugout.
Trying to second guess the lineup or formation without the knowledge of what’s happening, or being said during training, makes it even more frustrating.

Drop Antonio Soucek we need to start on the front foot and not chasing the game.
they are not a pair, they are individuals who had a bad game. Antonio usually works hard and does well for the team. Soucek if played out of position like last week is pretty useless
Gary as we have said from day one . This new journey is going to take time . I wasn’t expecting to get anything from city or villa . But the selections team wise have been questionable. We seem to have a habit of buying players then not playing them . Get them in . Fulkrug getting injured? isn’t that what always happens with our new signings . I don’t think any of us can get away from the fact that we should have signed Dhuran as well in the window . We will get there. I know we will and I for can’t wait. COYI .
I think it's easy to say we should've signed Duran Nige, but nobody actually knows why we didn't, nobody knows why we didn't offer every penny Villa wanted. Was it just Sullivan being tight? Was it a Tim stand off with Munchi? Was it that Duran was seen as too much of a risk and we could burn £40m? I don't know the answer and nobody does, but when it fell through we quickly signed Fullkrug. Only time will tell if he's any good for us and I find it incredible that some people are already calling him shit. Is he shit or are they just pissed off we didn't get Duran. FWIW I would also have liked Duran and he's starting to look like good value, but we also know that a season isn't about 4 games and a few substitute appearances, it is a long season and when he starts starting games regularly, opposition managers will find new ways to stop him. If he's really as good as he seems, then he will cope with that and get even better. I think at that point we can absolutely say, yes, we fucked up there. As it stands, he looks great and Fullkrug hasn't turned up. I reckon we should re-evaluate at the start of the January transfer window; has Fullkrug had lots of games and still failing and is Duran still banging in beautiful goals? Long response but you know what I mean, nobody really knows why the deal failed but they assume it was our fault, nobody knows yet that Duran is brilliant but he looks that way and nobody can say that Fullkrug is shit because they do not know yet, they can't. When did we ever write of a striker before he's started a league game? As for the journey yeah, in reality it was always gonna take time.

With your fantasy line up. I don't like the double pivot, we don't need two CDMs. I would play Alvarez and replace Rodriguez with Soler, we lack creativity in midfield. Maybe bring on Rodriguez on as a sub for Alvarez in the second half.
