I will forever say this, NoClip is exactly what I think game discussion should be. They always speak about games in a way I think the medium demands. They care about games, gaming, game development, and everything else. Really glad NoClip is around.

I'm SO glad they made the PsychOdyssey documentary series, it was such an interesting look behind closed doors. Same goes for the Noclip docs, highly appreciate your work!

Thanks for mentioning PsychOdyssey, I'm five episodes in and can't pry myself away from it. Jeremy and Danny appreciating something is usually a mega-clang beacon for me to check it out and finding gold. The sell is just your authentic conversation about it too. Cheers for another great recommendation.

Growing up in Tennessee, my grandparents had crab-apple trees in their back yard. Me, my brother, and our cousins would also throw them at each other; but along with that, we would pitch them like a baseball and hit them with a bat and splatter crab-apples all over the yard.

31:36 You don’t need a mod manager for Buffout, a manual install is literally just extracting the files into your F4SE folder, which I managed with virtually no modding experience at all lmao // significantly less inconvenient than crashes, which only happened to me twice in the first half hour before I installed Buffout mid-game and nothing has crashed since in the next 10 hours

The instructions I read actually said specifically not to install it with nexus mod manager. I haven't played too much but it seems like that and turning off weapon debris may have fixed things for me.

Like always, fun times. Fun fact about kunitsu gami : National Bunraku theatre piece available on YT as well, since this channel here be about all the docs haha game makers managed to convince the very traditional masters to invest in the IP as well :) ( also : spitoons be solid lore from west of loathing, not that it is related to capcom but could not help but wonder if you played that one ;) )

38:55 I don't understand why Bethesda should get any credit for not issuing a cease-and-desist for a free mod. Bethesda are the only party who stands to benefit financially from this mod, why would they ever want to cease-and-desist any free mod? They'd be Nintendo levels of short-sighted to do any such thing.
As for Bethesda not consulting the mod team about the update. I think it's being way too charitable to boil it down to "can't they update their own game?" Of course they can. Nobody is asking them to not update the game so that one upcoming total conversion doesn't work. Why is this the go-to argument?
The gripe is that Bethesda would absolutely have known about this mod and were contacted by the mod team, refused to acknowledge their existence, then sprung the update just as the mod is about to release. That's Bethesda going out of their way to be as unhelpful as possible towards the most passionate people in your community, who are only going to sustain interest for a game that Bethesda themselves could make more money from for doing nought. Even just an email that took someone 30 mins warning the team that an update is coming that may require significant rework would have been enough. An absolute drop in the ocean for Bethesda which would have gone a long way. If the mod team complained about Bethesda updating their game, then obviously that would be completely different and the mod team would be out of line.
I'm over companies treating their fans like they are beneath them, and in this case, a nuisance getting in the way of Bethesda's mini Fallout revenue boom post TV show.

Bethesda are cool for letting people mod their games. On the flip side Bethesda is lucky the modding community fixes their games and continuously breathes new life in games that would not have the longevity they otherwise do imo.

Why doesn’t FromSoft ever get mentioned in these kinds of comments? Dark Souls Remastered is literally unplayable without a mod.

    • @mat778
      @mat778 Месяц назад +1

@@TehPwnographer I think it's because it's much more prevalent with Bethesda across many games. Again, I think it's great that they allow modding to the extent that they do, they get more shit than the should in some respects, but in other respects I think the shit they do get is completely warranted. It's a double edged sword.

As far as AAA being judged harder than indie games - don’t take it personally. Just because you cut the tomatoes for a criticized massive burrito manufacturer, it doesn’t mean you’re doing a worse job than the taco truck (as a whole) down the street.

I think, Danny, if you read these, people mostly gave Bethesda crap about the update because it was total crap, not really because of the mod situation. All it added was a few not very interesting fetch quests and some armour and guns. It was kind of a damp squib that didn't add any value, and made it impossible to play with the mods everyone liked. If it had fixed literally a single crash bug, people would have been much more positive, but it actually added a ton more crashes to an already not very stable game. It was a net negative.

It always bugs me when people say stuff is free when they're paying hundreds a year for a subscription service to access that "free" thing. I appreciate the crew pointing out that games are "included" or "are part" of a subscription instead of just saying free.
I try to keep that framing in mind as it changes how I perceive those services and expect it effects how others think of them too. Thanks.

38:30 i felt the same way when people were complaining about bethesda updating the game when the show came out. Like are you joking, this mod team should be isanely grateful they are allowed to even make this big of a game and call it fallout London. Essentially Bethesda can never make a fallout in London now or at least for a long time. And they are cool for allowing them to do this but like danny said count your blessings jezz
