Just to give you an idea of what Minx was up against in 2014 : EXID "up & down", Sistar "touch my body", Girl's Day "something", SNSD "mister mister", 2NE1 "come back home".
Laboum, Lovelyz, Red Velvet(minus Yeri) and Mamamoo debuted.
In 2015 April, CLC, Gfriend, Oh My Girl and Twice all debuted. Nine Muses came back with "drama", 4Minute "crazy", Red Velvet(with Yeri) "ice cream cake", Mamamoo released Pink Funky that included "Um oh ah yeah", AOA "heart attack". And this isn't even the half of it.
So as you can see Minx/Dreamcatcher had a LOT of competition and with only two songs in two years it just wasn't feasible. I give a lot of credit to the CEO of the company for sticking with the girls and even adding Handong and Gahyeon.

You hit the nail on the head when you concluded that Dreamcatcher's concept is much more "them"! Most of the girls have said that their time as Minx didn't quite fit them personally (except for Jiu, but she loves headbanging so much that I think she would have become a rock star eventually) and they've expressed a lot of happiness toward being Dreamcatcher now. Even so, as Dreamcatcher they get to explore many different genres so it'd be hard for them to feel "stuck". You'll see when you get to their solo tracks on "Apocalypse: Save Us" just how much they've gotten to stretch their creative muscles however they want 🙂

your question about whether the rebrand was a strategic move to boost success or whether it was more out of passion is a good question. the answer is it was just something they/the ceo really wanted to do! for some background dreamcatcher's parent company is very small especially compared to the industry giants that manage huge groups like JYP (Twice, TXT), SM (NCT, Red Velvet), HYBE formerly Big Hit Entertainment (BTS, New Jeans, and Le sserafim) so they did not have a lot of financial power to promote Dreamcatcher like other groups. Dreamcatcher started from busking in parks and small venues to gain their loyal fanbase now. The CEO has also always had a thing for j-rock as a genre and many of the members themselves too liked alt and rock music (esp Siyeon) Their CEO has always been more than just their boss but someone who really wanted the members to succeed as he cared for them and partially blamed Minx's failure on the company. He famously is quoted saying that if Dreamcatcher failed too he would become a cucumber farmer to raise money for the members to continue making music. So with the support of the company and a lot of passion from the girls they became reborn as Dreamcatcher

Glad to see you continuing down the rabbit hole.
There was definitely some trepidation about the rock concept initially. They were afraid that the re-debut would fall apart but it ended up being just what they needed to stand out in an oversaturated industry full of cute and bubbly concepts. They've all spoken since then about how proud they are to be so unique and that they all really love their own music and never get tired of listening to their songs. Siyeon was a front woman for a rock group when she was in school, so the change probably felt like coming home for her. Jiu, who probably embodies the Minx concept the most is a big fan of Baby Metal so she loves rock and metal as well.
The Intros on all of DC's albums are great. They always set a tone for the EP and are required listening when you start doing album listens. That Welcome to Dream Intro is from their first single album, Nightmare. The single album has an Intro, Chase Me as the title track, and one b-side called Emotion, which is a ballad.
They always sing live. Even when there's a backtrack, they're doing everything they can to overpower it.
Looking forward to when you get to some of their more vocal heavy title tracks and b-sides.
That Once Upon A Time clip is in the Special Clips Playlist on their channel. Dami wrote that about her brother going to do his military service, I think is what I read somewhere. Dami has her own little studio where she does a bunch of writing and production/composition. The song New Days on the same album as Odd Eye was written and composed by her and she's got a few solo songs in the special clips playlist that she did. New Days is one of my favorite DC tracks, it's got a bit of that sentimental/emotional feeling mixed with their j-rock sound.
Really looking forward to your journey and I think the idea of doing one of the This Is ______ videos after a song reaction is a good idea. They're only 7 mins long but there's 4 seasons worth of them, so 28 videos.

Tattoos are associated with criminal gangs in Korea and Japan so the older generations really don't like them, and the music shows insist they be covered when groups perform there. The younger generation have been influenced by the West so they tend to like tattoos.

Thanks for reacting to dreamcatcher. There is a guide on dreamcatchers history. It’s called dodging disbandment and other extreme sports by mera. It’s old but still relevant if people wanted to know their history.

    Glad you enjoyed the guide.
About Minx: They were unsuccesful during that time because of following the standard cute concept and the heavy competition of big groups with that concept. Now that they found their own style and developed it, some of the members (specially SuA, Siyeon and Dami) cringe when they hear a Minx song. The cool part is that even if Handong and Gahyeon weren't part of Minx, Dreamcatcher performed one of Minx´s songs with Handong and Gahyeon just so they could walk the same path the Minx members walked.
Just a heads up for the "This is series" (the videos about members individually): There are 7 videos (1 for member) each year, from 2020 - 2023, so that's a total of 28 videos and there is also the introduction video called "This is Dreamcatcher". So if you wanna react to those as you said after a song you'd have to do a lot of reactions to finnish it (I don't mind tho). Imo it doesn't matter how you do it as long as you enjoy them, but the other alternatives are doing a separate video for each year, or for each member. However you wanna do it, it'll be fine.

In the beginning, some of the members were more comfortable with the rock genre than others and all of them were worried that a rock based girl group wasn't going to last long. But, now all the members feel proud that they carved out their own little niche in the industry and have fully embraced their rock sound. In fact, there were a few times when their company wanted to pivot and have a more pop title track but the members were against it saying it wouldn't be Dreamcatcher without the rock. Luckily, they are with a company who is willing to listen to them and work with them, which is why their music is so high quality! ^_^
I think what makes Dreamcatcher's choreo so difficult compared to other girl groups is their transitions from formation to formation. Their songs tend to be on the faster side so their stamina has to be high to be able to sing while constantly running around the stage. You can see a big change in their choreo when Scream came out. That's when they hired their current Performance Director Hwang Sooyeon. The first dance she did the choreography for was Deja Vu, which has such beautiful details, but when it came to Scream she convinced the company to give Dreamcatcher extra dancers for the first time. It created such a dynamic stage and really changed the course of Dreamcatcher's performances!
So happy you're continuing to check Dreamcatcher out! Love your reactions! ^_^

If you liked the B sides and intros you heard here, you should try checking out their albums. Most of them are mini albums with 3-6 songs on them including the intro, but they've had a couple full album releases too. Almost every album has one ballad, although as they progressed sometimes it was just "ballad-likes."
As for Minx... I know lots of others have also filled you in, but some additional context: when they debuted as Minx, Yoohyeon and Dami were still in highschool. I don't remember if Siyeon was still in highschool at debut but if not it was only just. They were a lot less comfortable with themselves, and the ones still in school didn't have the best time of it. Everyone knew they were idols or idols in training because you had to have special permission to dye your hair while still in highschool. Dami clearly was not a fan of the cutesy aspects of being the maknae, SuA hated that she got picked to be the one with short hair and couldn't really fight it, Siyeon was in a garage band type thing in high school and originally wanted to be a singer but not an idol. And then with "failing" obviously they all had a lot of strong feelings about how it went, and a lot of nerves about becoming Dreamcatcher and risking failing again because now they were doing something actively less popular in South Korea. Actually, it's my opinion that a number of dreamcatcher ballads seem to be messages to each other / their past selves who were struggling more. The first ballad, Emotion, also feels like it was talking to the fans of Minx from before they were Dreamcatcher as well...
Nowadays it feels like time and progress has helped heal that scar. A few months I think after they got their first music show wins, they did a performance of "Love Shake" with the two members who weren't part of Minx and it just gave me "acknowledging the past and being able to move on from it" vibes.

love the extra bit of knowledge for me here, thanks! I feel that for Siyeon ... I also started a band in Highschool. Yea, I'd like to keep this opinion in my mind as we go through the songs just to see if i might get the vibes too idk

its frowned upong to have tats in general in asia. like if you have them you need to cover them up when in public sometimes or risk people being rude to you. at work you cannot have them exposed and korean tv broadcast laws have stuff about tats as well
