I was shocked to see the river dryed up.. watch a terrible sight. Here in Holland we could only dream of such rivers, nearly every natural stream we had here was canalized years ago, lost forever.. Learn from the dutch, don't make the same mistake. Please fellow countryman, fight for your lovely UK rivers!

Same in France, all the Rivers are almost dead...
So if i see a Jewel like this, i have some tears on my eyes.

Chalk streams do suffer from extraction nowadays, but many do dry out in summer naturally. They are called Winterbournes.

Just to confuse matters, there are two rivers 'Allen' in Dorset; one flows from Martin to join the Hampshire Avon at Fordingbridge, the other rises at Monkton Up Wimbourne to reach the Stour at Wimbourne Minster. I think this is the larger of the two, but I remeber the smaller Allen as a pristine wilderness back in the early sixties.

Doesn't the Allen which rises In Martin, flow entirely through Hampshire? Its course includes Martin, Damerham and Fordingbridge- all in Hampshire.
BTW, last time I checked, it was still in good shape.

He said it has produced the record grayling, not the current record grayling.
