It doesn't matter the age. It's what you want to learn. 40 years experience and still learning. And hungry. Don't be afraid to change employer to move up the ladder or gain your experience. Most of all learn to read the log. How a branch forms and shakes progress. How tension effects things and really important how to look after the timber you have cut. Many small mills waste most of their profit by knowing no better.
The carriage is newer. The carriage frame and headlock bases are about 10 years old. The knees and dog assembly are around 6 years old and the cab and controls 2 years old. Thanks for watching.
Good to see your mill making good pace but you should consider if a band saw headrig will serve you better. If the saw logs are cheap it may not balance out the benefits but always keep an eye on the figures. I don't mean a horizontal and heaven forbid anything under a 10 inch blade. The blue stain thing is dependent on the customer. Some really like it but many professionals can not risk using it. Simple if their customer complains after an item is made they are screwed. Best solution for that situation is that the end user selects the pieces for the craftsman to use.
Nicely done! Young sawmiller here and I appreciate the time you take to make these videos
Thanks. Great to have younger generations join the industry. That's awesome. Thanks for watching and good luck!

You're welcome Bill. Thanks for watching
Your carriage is much different than Mark’s. Is it older or newer than 1985?

Thanks!
I framed houses with an occasional "blue stain" board, just need to know when and where to use them.
I like the longer (15-25mins.) videos. Thanks.
You're right. We're going to try to make more longer ones
