All I'm gonna say is this: what you just wrote CONTRADICTS itself, and Liu Yifei is, without a doubt, a LOVELY, BEAUTIFUL (both inside and out), and SWEET person. The hate is UNREASONABLY and RIDICULOUSLY high. She has even gotten DEATH THREATS. Her political opinions, regardless of whether they're "right" or "wrong", doesn't necessarily represent her character as a person. Regardless what anyone thinks or says, the fact of the matter is that she's not a "bad person" like everyone in the Western world is portraying her... nor does she DESERVE all the hate and extremely hurtful and dangerous comments... I mean she's gotten DEATH THREATS... Like do you honestly think she deserves that?... Imagine if YOU WERE HER. There's always two sides of the coin. For anything in life. That's all I'm gonna say. I'm not gonna comment on the political matter itself, on an open public online media platform like RUclips, for obvious reasons which I already stated above. And quite frankly, I don't have much of an opinion on the matter anyways. I'm neutral. I can FULLY understand, appreciate, and empathize with BOTH sides and I respect BOTH sides' opinion as well. Again, like I said, I'm not gonna get involved in all this nonsense, but what I do know and am gonna say is that she DOES NOT deserve everything that has happened to her following her obviously controversial post. Even if you vehemently disagree with her opinion, it doesn't ENTITLE you to insult, swear, make hurtful comments, or even THREATEN her. Criticism is fine as long as it's ASSERTIVE... NOT AGGRESSIVE. Constructive criticism NOT demeaning criticism. And also, ppl are just starting to discriminate, ostracize, segregate, and marginalize Chinese ppl in general because of all this. Do you think that's right or fair? Like just because of one person's seemingly controversial political remarks, one then DRASTICALLY extrapolates that to EXTREMES and just concludes that an ENTIRE RACE is "bad". As if Chinese ppl in general are "bad ppl"... And China a "horrible place"... And that here in the Western world, everything's "perfect and ideal"...Anyways, I really am writing way too much here and as a person who suffers from mental health gravely, I have to stop here. Before you just immediately protest and argue back, at LEAST take just a few mins to read thru what I just wrote, and seriously think/reflect about it. You're welcome to respond back, but ONLY IF ITS IN A RESPECTFUL, SAFE, NON-JUDGEMENTAL AND POLITE WAY OR MANNER. I WILL NOT TOLERATE NOR RESPOND IF YOU POST any disrespectful, judgemental and hateful messages. Sorry if I came off strong saying that, but I have to be very careful and cautious in this context. Hope you get what I mean and where I'm coming from. Have a good day."

Just in case you don't know, what the lead actress wrote on her micro-blog was merely a retweet that was first posted by a journalist from the Chinese mainland. It was done in response to the ongoing violence as demonstrated by the protesters in HK. The protesters were creating chaos and endless provoking behaviours. It is true that in an effort to maintain order and curb violence, a number of policemen went a little further and caused injuries to several people. However, it is also true that throughout the protest, the protesters went way too far and crossed the moral line when they obstructed traffic in everywhere they protested including in airports, humiliated and beat up people out of discrimination towards mainlanders and towards anyone who speaks Mandarin, smashed buildings including universities and burned MTR stations, fired lethal weapons such as fire arrows, petrol bombs, lasers, and bricks at civilians and policemen (resulting in death of an elderly cleaner who got hit in the head by bricks), and even set fire on an elderly man over an argument. So, before you blindly follow the hate and boycott bandwagon and accuse the actress of supporting "brutality", do take a moment to reconsider who you think you really support, and what the context of her post really meant. Also, I really hope people will stop using Mulan to propagandize their political position because this is getting out of hand and is totally unfair and disrespectful to all the hard work that the cast and crew put in for this film.

She is. Btw, I know its a bit weird to bring our conversation back (and I know you deleted for a reason) but since I stumbled upon this comment of yours, just wanted to get it off my chest. Its wasn't about Mulan as it is about woke culture and its dangers to future of films and society in general. This is a bit long(and maybe ranty), but my passion is bringing more awareness to people regarding such topics---its just too important in our day and age. If you don't read this, others will. 1) Mushu - You brought up a good point, but my post wasn't about 'cultural appropriation.' I'm all for it protecting the dignity of cultures, but not when its taken advantage by the woke culture to fan fake outrages. Many who complain are comign from a genuine place, but not so with media. The liberal media would do anything to fuel outrages, racial tensions, man-hating, white-hating, woman power(even though women has more rights in American courts). Its too deep a subject to get into, but suffice to say It all traces back to political benefits---democrats promising policies to combat 'racism,' give more 'power' to woman, free healthcare to illegals, etc... you're familiar with Chinese politics(judging from your post) so i think you can see how deep the rabbit hole is in America. Your quote: _'living in the comforts of democracy'_ is a good one to describe pampered SJWs, but you have no idea how poisoned Americans are, mentally---but less obvious physically. The control in China is far more dangerous but I dare say the Chinese are, on average, more 'awake' than many of these liberals. Biggest irony is that these 'woke' people are the most 'asleep' when it comes to real issues. 2) Woke - _"all the villains would be male"_ - Possibly. But lets look closer: we have 2 villains: 1 male villain and powerful female villain who now *"calls the shots."* Her magick powers is a safe bet that the male villain will be subservient to the female villain. Yes, you mention her being the originals, but she is now re-scripted under a female director. This is not sexism, but just pointing out so you see a pattern. Here is the important part that you overlooked: concept of "women-empowerment" isn't just "villainizing" men, it includes "emasculating" men. Its not a joke--just look at the media--- Gillete commercial telling boys not be rapists, or non-stop coverage of Gay Pride. Or weird pandering like turning Sulu (from Star Trek) gay. Again, like you said, the woke culture isn't the biggest obstacle to the movie, but I bring it up because its so important when it comes to the future of films---and the breaking down of American culture. I care about America, so that's why I wasn't just talking about Mulan. 3) Actress - I wouldn't be surprised if it was her handlers like you suggested. But I also wouldn't be surprised if she was politically 'illiterate'---like many of these brainwashed/controlled hollywood stars. Hollywood is an echo chamber of Trump-hating stars Now I'm not for or against her.. but I don't think the CCP nor the 'families' in Hong Kong holds complete control over her career--based on her film record. Jacky Chan has enough to practically own a part of Hong Kong, and yet decides to endorse China's influence over Hong Kong late in his career. If he chooses to side with Hong Kong, there wouldn't be risk for his life since he's too big of a name to be assassinated easily without massive repercussions by the people. Yet the way he spoke is as if Hong Kong and China is one of the same----that's why I think many of these stars like Yifei are simply naive, politically. Either that, or she sided with police simply because the protests were too disruptive and was getting hurt---a common sense type of response taken out of context. Either way, i think its another obstacle to the movie. 4) Crazy RIch Asians - your example is an interesting one, and shows another problem with woke culture. Not only _"pure jealousy"_ , but also a bit of hypocrisy too, at least from my point of view. "Overcompensation" pops to mind. Many Asian-American actors complain about diversity for a decade, but then in the midst of woke culture opts for an "All Asian cast." Suddenly "Diversity"(other races) don't matter now--just Asian-Americans in prominent roles. "Staying true to the books"---they say. The movie not doing too well is no surprise. It feels too woke (racially-wise) for Americans, and too B grade for Chinese to care.
Charlz Kulvet i didn’t delete my post. Was it deleted? Because I had spent time and effort writing a response so that would be a shame. I will quickly make a few comments in response to this but perhaps not as in depth as you would like: 1) Mushu - this had nothing to do with cultural appropriation. Just that I do appreciate the changes this iteration of the movie has made as it brings it closer to the original legend. As an Asian American I personally found the addition of a cartoon dragon named after a dish found in a Chinese restaurant rather offensive. I’m glad this version, which is getting such a wide release is truer to the original legend which goes back hundreds of years. 2) “woke”: when compared to the fanfare of movies such as Captain Marvel or even Wonder Woman, I don’t find this movie on the same page at all. Whereas for those movies the general message the directors and actors who were touting the film, seemed to be “female strength” . ( for the record, I have no problem with that) But the general message for those involved with this film has been “finding oneself” and “staying true to yourself”. Although the media may have tried to spin it into something else, those involved have not. That to me is the difference. 3) politics. I’m sorry, even Jackie Chan knows his place. In China nobody is above the law and they make sure everyone knows that. a) Remember a few years ago when the biggest Chinese actress Fan Bing Bing just seemed to drop off the face of the planet? Please google that incident and you will see that fame does not protect you if you step out of line. b) Jackie Chan’s own son was busted for drug use in Beijing a few years back. Despite all his fame, power and money, Jackie could do nothing for his son while he was held in prison with no communication with the outside world. Jackie supports China the way he does because he wants that Chinese money. Very simple. Regarding Yifei, I believe she was asked to make a statement by people she could not refuse. Did nobody else think it was odd that multiple prominent Chinese celebrities came forward with similar messages on their social media at the same time? 4) Asian Americans. Though I do not fully understand your point here, I will say this... a movie like a mulan should bring together the support of all Asians in the film community. The bottom line is this, if the movie does not do well, I don’t think you will have studios willing to back another movie with an all Asian cast (regardless of it being Asian American or not) anytime soon. Studios won’t care about the politics behind the reason just that it did not do well financially. Yet if they could come together and support this film, they would only be opening the doors for more opportunities for everyone. Hope this helps.

Fuck off

@@T2SM0425 True
Well said 👍👏

Hollywood is an echo chamber of Trump-hating stars
Now I'm not for or against her.. but I don't think the CCP nor the 'families' in Hong Kong holds complete control over her career--based on her film record.
I will quickly make a few comments in response to this but perhaps not as in depth as you would like:
1) Mushu - this had nothing to do with cultural appropriation.

How much even, she would be married, that would not prevent her from expressing herself ... I think ?!?
That said : Between HK and Mainland, I also think there is a happy medium.
If she loves China and censorship so much then she should go back there
First of all, she's not really American. All we know about her involvement there is that she stayed in the US for about 5-6 years and then she moved back to China (where she stays on even up till now). China does not allow for dual citizenship so we're unsure if she actually holds an American citizenship. And do you know why she supported the police? The protesters were creating chaos and endless provoking behaviour, they obstructed traffic everywhere they carried out their protests, they beat up people for simply not agreeing with them, they vandalized public properties and buildings, they even burned MTR stations, set an old man on fire, and threw lethal weapons including petrol bombs at others. An old man was killed in the chaos because of bricks hitting him in the head. And are you telling me that she should support all those madness instead?
