Imagine seeing this back in '95, knowing absolutely nothing about it. I did, and I walked out of that cinema feeling like I had just been hit over the head with a bat.
The end credits rolled in reverse direction and I was too stunned to realise for a bit why even the credits were disturbing to me. It opened about the same time as 12 Monkeys and in the space of two cinema visits I developed a lot of respect for Brad Pitt's abilities.

Literally my favourite movie ever! I watched it in 1995 whilst backpacking around Australia (saw it in Melbourne) and they had speakers under each seat so made the gun shots/loud noises etc even more impactful. Every scene in this movie is atmospheric, dark, brilliant. and the acting is top notch, love Morgan and Pitt. This kid from the UK enjoyed watching you girls watch it for the first time (apart from Ellie of course). x
There is not a single jury that would actually convict David. He'd never actually see prison for this under the circumstances and Somerset's testimony. But David's life would be forfeit after this and he'd be utterly miserable for the rest of his days. Life taken either way.
Love film noir , friends don't get it when I say Blade Runner has the noir vibe , I'm in my 70s now and LA Confidential is also a good choice ,the film that really got me into the genre was OUT of the PAST aka Build My Gallows High starring Robert Mitchum ,he was really good in the original Cape Fear too.

Also his TV show Mindhunter which is about the formation of the FBI Behavioural Sciences Division (remember Silence of the Lambs ?) where agents go and interview real world serial killers and develop their first profiles. Will totally give you chills.
Since I saw this movie, I've never opened a box where I wasn't sure what was inside without thinking about this movie. It's a staple at Christmas time.

Needless to say we all saw what an absolute psychopath John Doe was; easily Kevin Spacey’s greatest performance of all. His reasoning for killing all his victims actually does make a lot of sense but they still didn’t deserve to die in the manner they all did & if you ask me, Tracey wasn’t so innocent herself simply because of the fact she never told Mills (her own husband) she was pregnant & told Somerset instead. Probably meant to be an allegory of never keeping secrets from your own family which is ultimately a sin in itself. Excellent reaction once again!

I think Mills would have wanted this baby. When John Doe is bragging about what he did to Tracy, he’s struggling to keep it together but when he finds out that the killer got his unborn child too, his emotions get stronger and that’s when he really loses it

A movie that's gruesome and grisly, but you just can't stop watching - especially with the climax of the film! All of our Homies got gripped (has Viki ever been so animated?) It's no surprise that Mish wanted to watch it all over again, just to catch any details that got missed the first time.

I never liked how they used the phrase deadly sin. While it is actually the direct translation of "mortal sin", there are some connotations to mortal that are lost in translation. There are a few reasons behind a sin being classified as mortal. Its a sin that puts your soul in danger of hell without reconciliation. Mortal also indicates alienation of God's grace, which is what gives our soul its life. This is still, in my mind, the best serial killer movie of all time, barely edging out the top spot over silence of the lambs.

I never liked how they used the phrase deadly sin. While it is actually the direct translation of "mortal sin", there are some connotations to mortal that are lost in translation. There are a few reasons behind a sin being classified as mortal. Its a sin that puts your soul in danger of hell without reconciliation. Mortal also indicates alienation of God's grace, which is what gives our soul its life. This is still, in my mind, the best serial killer movie of all time, barely edging out the top spot over silence of the lambs.
