  • We keep challenging the Street Bike Tire Changer with the worst tire change nightmares you can possibly imagine. While attending the AIMExpo 2023 in Las Vegas, we once again accepted the challenge and found the perfect tire - the stock tire on a Harley-Davidson Ultra Classic, the Dunlop D407R.
    This tire had been on for 9 years, with over 13K miles on it.
    To test whether the Street Bike Tire Changer can handle one of the stiffest tires out there, Jakob will attempt to break the bead for the first time.

    So, I just got my street bike starter kit and I thought I’d try it out as i needed to throw some 90 degree valve stems on.
    Even without reading the instructions, it worked incredibly well. The videos don’t really do it justice. My only gripes would be the overall finish of the product could use some quality control. For example there was a couple of paint chips/scratches and the rubber piece that comes in contact with the tyre to break the bead has a portion that has either been used or has rubbed against something and looks used/scuffed. It doesn’t bother me that much as I prefer usage over looks but it was a little annoying. Also the the iron hasn’t quite been fully polished/smoothed out. When I rub my finger on part of it, I can feel a sharp raised part.
    Overall, really happy with it but quality control needs to be looked at I think.

    Just ordered a Rabaconda Starter Kit. I have two bikes, one a Kawasaki ZX-11, the other a Harley Dyna. Got tired of dealing with high prices and shoddy work from my local dealer. Have tried changing tires on the sportbike before and it was WAY too hard! I just didn't have proper tools. I'm hoping the new changer with make this possible...

      @@williamdejeffrio9701 I grew up in a tire shop. I'm in my 50's now. Sometimes I'd rather pay to have work done. I had such a crappy experiance at the Indian (dirty rat basters) dealership yesterday, with my Victory Vision. I've spent most of the day looking at lifts and tire machines.. Lol.

      @@I_am_archie Same here...after I let a local motorcycle dealership (owned by a friend by the way) install new tires on my ZX-11 a few years ago only to find they wrapped my new stainless braided brake line around the rear axle and left the front axle nut loose (the did tighten the pinch bolts) which resulted in a destroyed front wheel bearings (both issues put me at risk for catastrophe), together with the fact that the shop will not install customer-supplied tires, which means I am obligated to pay their inflated prices, I decided to change my own tires from now on. I do all of the work on both my bikes otherwise (I usually do a much better job than the shops because I take my time, use the right tools, adhere to the factory specs, etc.).

    Can you change the rear with pulley and rotor installed ??

    • @Rabaconda
      @Rabaconda  3 месяца назад

      Yes, as the wheel supports can be adjusted. However, if the pulley is very far out from the wheel center, it might not let the wheel rest fully on wheel supports. But you can check. If it remains in the air, not on wheel supports, remove the pulley.

    Funny thing happend in my situation.
    Rabaconda came to me more or less week ago, and I was preparing to practise a little bit, so I bought old GSX 600 F rims for 20$, because I don't want to destroy rims on my motorcycle.
    And the first problem appeard at the beginning, because Rabaconda central rod is to wide, and to even start working, I had to remove bearings (I see, there is in shop 15mm spindle kit, so I've orderet it and will take secont take, after the package will get to me).
    Second problem appeard when mounting second tire bead, because duck started to jumping off the rim edge, but not whole, only from the side of duck head, but I assume, it could happened by instability of tire, that was impossible to stabilize, even with centering adapter.
    So I assume, that old bikes had smaller bearings, smaller holes for axle and it could be problem to change tires easy and fast, without additional Rabaconda parts.
    It is not impossible, because I've finally made it withe help of additional two hands, but it needed to remove bearings and try to not harm myself, ha ha.
    But still, Rabaconda is great tool. I only need to get practise, get the rest of requried Rabaconda tools, and eventually buy a motorcycle with "fat" axles, ha ha.

    • @Rabaconda
      @Rabaconda  Год назад +1

      Thank for the feedback! It's good to measure the center hub size as the standard spindle is 20mm. Hope you didn't harm yourself by removing the bearing for this test.
      Regarding the duck head slipping off, there will be an updated version of available in a few weeks time. It will have an additional lip to avoid tire iron from slipping off the beak. Tip: to avoid the tire iron from slipping off the duck head, try pushing the opposite section of the bead to the drop center as much as possible - this will reduce the tension around the duck head.

      @@Rabaconda Removing bearings was more difficult, than practising using Rabaconda. From 2 wheels, only 1 bearing was removed with proper tools. The rest was "welded" to rim, so we had to use brute force (good for me, that wheels are only donors for practise, not wheels of my motorcycle). But I'm difficult customer. I am using always old, or archaic devices, tools and motorcycles, and when I need something, it's not easy for Customer Advisors in shops, ha ha.
      Order with the rest of requeried parts for Rabaconda will propably be delivered tommorow, so propably I will take second try with more experience (and bearings mounted, ha ha) this weekend.
      Hope I will get better and at least get a little bit closed to time, you are reaching on videos.
      Have a nice day.
