Very interesting topic and glad to hear someone talking about it. There are definitely different kinds of presences we encounter in lucid dreaming and this, I feel, is an important part of the exploration... sussing out who is who... or what.
On the topic of sussing out- do you find that there are particular sensations which accompany meetings with certain entities in lucid dreaming? eg. Several times recently I have felt this kind of mild electric shock sensation when making contact with an entity. I usually wake up soon after convinced that I perceived a foreign energy.
Thank you very much for this inspirational lecture. When I was a teenager, I've always wished in many yeras of lucid dreams a certain group of people to me, who I knew from a movie, as friends and protectors. Some time ago, decades later, I met one again in a dream by an coincidence. He was totally looking forward to watching me and remarked in astonishment that I had gotten older. I thought that was very strange and nobody could explain it to me. I started to write a novel about them and since then, when they appear in the dream, I immediately become completely lucid because I associate them with so many lucky lucid years. I never thought to ask them anything essential, because I think they were only persons in a dream. Next time I will catch up.

And what about family and friends? I have dreamt so many times about my mother being horrible to me and make me feel absolutely miserable in dreams, but in real life she's very nice. I'll try to be lucid next time and react differently. Thank you for all your wonderful videos 💛🌈✨🌹
Thanks Samantha :-) Yes, you could try asking her when lucid, or try a waking dream re-entry to discover more. Sometimes dream figures represent different parts of ourselves, shadow elements of the psyche. It's worth exploring to find out more.
I love Paul Tholey's work and his experiments with dream figures appear in Llewellyn's Complete Book of Lucid Dreaming. Have you tried his experiments yourself while lucid? This is the best way to draw your own conclusions :-)

I have not done his experiments myself yet because I'm having difficulty with beginning stages of lucidity such as dream recall, but I've just recently discovered your work and I believe it can help me. Nonetheless, I have philosophical arguments and personal experiences that have led me to conclude that at least some dream characters are conscious and I'm going to post a video going over this early in October. I'll get the Llewellyn Complete Book of Lucid Dreaming to learn more and one day I'll do those experiments myself. Thank you for the response, book recommendation, and your diligent scholarship :-)

that's so interesting, me too, in a dream with lucidity flash, I have met a feminine figure very helpfull. When I sow her she was like a coffin made in trasparent cristal, wich has some temperature instrument on the top, and that for everybody was a sign that she was sick. But I decided to talk with her, since I wonted her to became friend, and I said " Oh, what a nice temperature you have!". She then appreciates my will and became a red and orange ball of light and told me that in that shape, like astral body, for her is easier to move, and that she would take me to my bedroom. Becouse she was able to change her apparence, I got the feeling that she was very self conscious. BUT......in my room I was surprised to meet other entity with the same level of consciussness, dark, and very dangerous, like evil. I escaped and while I was rushing among dark rooms I saw a little bird on the floor, it was still, like dead. I felt an enormous feeling of compassion for it. And then... happened a miracle! The bird resuscitate, and flyng on the top of a room, and became beautiful creature emanating light. Everybody were happy looking at this vision. At that moment I realised that the feminine ball of red orange light was near me and she told me " Oh, at last you learned it! You can do it whenever you wont". I learned this miracle, that strong compassion could change the nature of the object where is addressed. But I believed that I can do that just for being that are not at that level of consciousness. SORRY FOR MY ENGLISH, I AM ITALIAN.
That's an interesting experience, Marcella, and lovely that you also met a ball of orange light! This sounds like a "teaching" dream figure, there to show the power of compassion and the impact that thoughts, feelings and desires can have on the reality we are in. The appearance of light in dreams often indicates awareness and can lead to powerful and beautiful lucid experiences. Thanks for sharing this.

The IASD Dream Conference is an amazing yearly event, next one is next month in Oregon, details on www.asdreams.org Also, I will lead a Lucid Dreaming Ocean Retreat in Portugal October 26-30. Participants stay in touch and strong friendships are forged, it's wonderful to have partners in lucidity. Or you could join an online class.

Do you believe some dream characters are conscious? A fellow lucid dream researcher, Paul Tholey, believed so and I'm inclined to agree with him.
