Hello, I'm Mr. Taster, currently on my way from Najaf to Karbala, heading towards Imam Hussain’s shrine for Arbaeen. Along this journey, numerous Mawkebs provide votive food and essential services to pilgrims. Stay tuned as we explore some of the most renowned Mawkebs. I've witnessed remarkable places and will share my detailed reports with you. The atmosphere is bustling with activity and with spiritual energy.
Some of the mawkebs included delicious Iraqi tea a popular drink made with lots of sugar and tea, votive bread, and tasty sandwiches consisting of chicken, potatoes, onions, and tomatoes, served among the pilgrims
Other mawkebs give various votive foods to pilgrims during their journey, including bananas, coffee, and famous Iraqi meals. One of these meals is Tashreeb al Bagila which consists of soaking bread in bean water and adding fried eggs on top. Another dish is Najafi Fesenjan stew which is similar to Iranian Fesenjan, but with a sour taste. It is often eaten with rice.
The preparation of these dishes involves a lot of frying and sizzling that add to the experience. These famous Iraqi meals are highly popular and are distributed among the pilgrims to provide them with sustenance on their journey.
Next I went to the grand Mawkeb Khimat Abduliah Alradea, the largest & busiest mawkeb near Karbala with mechanized machines helping them make and serve shawarma, kebab, bread, donuts and kunafas to the pilgrims
Here they prepare the largest shawarmas, with a production capacity of eight tons. After washing and cleaning the chickens, they are marinated using a mixture of yogurt, lemon juice, and tomato paste before being skewered and cooked. The sight of the giant shawarmas being prepared is amazing, and they are sliced and wrapped in bread to be distributed. The shawarmas are known for their delicious taste, and it is amazing to see such a massive volume being cooked and served to people.
Minced meat is turned into delicious kebabs using these amazing mechanized devices, which are then distributed inside bread. The Mawkeb also features a large ice-making machine and another mechanized device for packaging and distributing water.
This location also produces fresh votive donuts for pilgrims. The donuts are fried in hot oil and sprinkled with powdered sugar. When cut open, they reveal a creamy middle and can be dipped in Nutella.
Must I add that the Lebanese chef here makes incredible votive kunafas, a famous and delicious dessert made from cheese, sugar, rose water, pistachio, almond, and cream, that are pressed and heated in a special tray before being flipped into a larger tray and poured with syrup. Two thousand of these unique kunafas are prepared daily. These kunafas are a must-try for anyone visiting this mawkeb.
