I have 2 females and a very large male, he's the most possessive german shepherd that I'd ever had. He won't let me pet or even interact with others. I'll tell him NO , he gets so upset he'll give me the cold shoulder and spend all day in the bathroom by himself.
I have 2 male Shepherds that do the exact thing. Both are lovers, and a little jealous of each other. My 3rd Shepherd is a female. No issues at all from the males. Thanks for posting.
My mare horse was overly protective of me from other horses and even my girlfriend when we first started dating. We were kissing in the Paddock and Hurricane rushed over and SHOVED her away with her head then stood between us, whinnying and huffing through her nose
I’d caution with the amount you may be running her, it’s still early to be stressing her joints…. Plus, they can’t be exhausted. What works more for fatigue over running is mental stimulation. Taking her for walks in new areas or area with lots of smells. I would take Maverick in town for walks. Remember, you don’t have to stop and let every dog or hooman meet. Also good is swimming.
I miss my GSD. I hope he is doing well in dog heaven. He accompanied me for 12 years in my life and two years although he was already ill, ... I couldn't part with him but then it was just torture for him and so it was better to give him the injection into dog heaven. .... Sad...
I’m gonna get hate for this but petting his GSD on the couch after growling at his long haired GSD was reinforcing that growling behavior. Not likely to escalate if they know each other but, you can’t always predict K9 behavior. Both dogs are adorable nevertheless.

Resourse guarding is an unwanted behavior in these dogs and can lead to bad things

Male or female GSD? In my experience, the females are more cuddly and family oriented. But the males are more aloof
