I think you have summed this up pretty nicely. The only advantage the 2A03 has over the SID is its 5 note polyphony. When it comes to sound variety and quality, the SID is much more superior. Especially thanks to the multimode filter.
Yeah, but when you take in consideration using the 2A03 alongside the expansion sound chips used in the Famicom, more channels and better sound quality than the SID. In fact the NES can even perfectly imitate the SID when the 2A03 is used alongside the Namco 163. ruclips.net/p/PLM98E7f5OROY1J8Q-aarDYmoCkzvBgSdm
@@SyRose901 Well there’s like 6 primary expansion sound chips used by the Famicom, with each of them having different sounds and features, for example, the FDS has a 6bit wavetable channel with phase modulation support, the MMC5 has 2 pulse wave channels identical to the ones on the Famicom/NES but with a double length counter and no hardware sweep plus it has an 8bit PCM channel as well, the VRC6 also has 2 pulse wave channels with twice the amount of duty cycles the Famicom/NES’s pulse channels have plus a sawtooth channel, the VRC7 is a derivative of the OPLL but 6 2op FM channels instead of 9(and no rhythm drum mode either) and has different built-in FM patches than the OPLL, the Namco 163 is related to the Namco WSG family of wavetable sound chips and has 8 4bit wavetable channels just like the Namco 15xx and Namco CU30 but unlike those the channels are configurable can be combined together to make wavetable channels with bigger wavetable waveforms, and the Sunsoft 5B is a derivative of the AY/YM/SSG, and when you combine all of those sound chips together, you get 24 sound channels in total, and by adding that with the Famicom/NES’s main sound chip, you get 29 sound channels, so even SIDx2 wouldn’t stand a chance against the entire NES Extended Sound Format!😄😏😎🤓
Well, it's actually another gem of the C64/NES, name's Jeroen Tel,he wrote a comment here and what a madlad. Just like the Follins,he deserved better games. Although he left the videogame world, he's still an active composer actually!
Jeroen Tel Well the NES has native sample support, two noise modes and a better sounding triangle wave (imo), so it does have those things going for it I guess :)
@@jlewwis1995 Not to mention mapper chips that allow for more channels and even FM synthesis. All that on an 8-bit console. But yeah, the less gadgets used, the better. Tim Follin could do astonishing music even without using DPCM samples.

Isn't the 2A03 also capable of more sound channels via expanded audio? And methinks that even with the best sound expansion, the 2A03 cannot match the SID, correct? Funny, the SID and 2A03 are both 6502 based, so I wonder if it would be possible to make an NES cart with an onboard SID. That way the NES can do the sound effects while the SID does the music. Another advantage of the 2A03, is that it can play both sound effects and music, unless you count 5 note loops.
Oh yes, I know how the SID's gimmick is. The SID was limited to 3 channels, but those channels can be anything, and could be switched at any time. The NES is limited to what channels it has, and can only add more, where the SID can have two Squares for a few seconds then change one of them to a Sawtooth. Additionally, there are far more options when it comes to fading and reverb with the SID, adding elasticity, and the 2A03 is much more rigid with it's 5 predetermined channels, correct?

But doesn't the SID allow for more variety, since you could configure them to be any one of four setups (square, triangle, noise, and sawtooh), and have much more freedom with how the notes are plated, volume control, that whole "Attack Defend" thing, even when compared to the best FC add-on chips?

Considering that this song is very close to the C64 version without much compromise, I guess you can say that the NES' sound chip is just slightly inferior to the C64's, correct?
@3D8n52DmV37EI6oHeX по поводу просмотров из России - согласен. Видимо, так и есть по поводу не вернуть - нет. Вернуть и еще *как* вернуть. Это вопрос методики... и желания
:-) Composed this back in the days when I was 18 years
old... still love the NES!
Somehow I'm always unable to associate Robocop 3 with this music. Heard it a million times, but still the name of the game escapes me.

The C64 title theme is easily one of the compositions on the C64 hardware. Friggin' kudos.
+Jeroen Tel i am great fan of your music. Can you tell me is there similar vst plugin that can make melody like this?
Well, there is a VST instrument called "Plogue. Chipsounds"
Just google for it! :-) Thank you for being a fan btw! :-)

This sounds incredibly impressive for a NES tune. Incredible technical feat.
that intro melody is awesome
This has no business being as good as it is lol

one of the most memorable theme songs and it suits robocop perfectly !

The intro music burned into me for life. I never figured out how to beat the game back then tough :D
This song always scares me at 0:20

Incredible 8bit Guitar solo at the beginning lol.
I had this game and never got past the 3rd level for what I remember. But I always recalled this as a great tune.

Why do Robocop games have amazing music?
Why all Robocop games themes make me question about life and consider acquiring Cool Ranch?
Well, one can only expect so much from the NES. Of course 8 channels alongside the 2A03 wouldn't be without problems like that.
A great title theme for an okay game based on a shit movie.
movie is still better than RoboCop 2.
