36:02 it says a lot about the Initiative as a mechanic that even after playing so much of it in cube, even LSV doesn't know that Throne of the Dead Three forces a shuffle lol. As always thank you so much for the daily cube content! Loving every second
To be fair basically every other effect that says to look/reveal the top x cards then instructs you to put them to the bottom, your brain just fills in the text of the effect
I love when a new draft begins with the sound of Luis laughing. Hearing the sound of a Lotus being opened is such a great way to start the day. May the Power 9 always bless us all!
Ya - came to comment on the kitty. Seems to be a strong win condition in a lot of decks. Wonder why it is normally picked in the second half of a pack.
@@FunnyGeorgeLopez I do think you need quite a lot of pieces to really get it going, a critical mass of targets worth blinking which is why it I think people try to wheel it after they've seen a whole pack
Lump it in with other powerful payoffs like portal, brain freeze, atroxa, etc? Make sense to me. I guess it has a little more flexibility as it can do something in most decks but perhaps is too vulnerable as a low toughness creature.
1:09:25 Here you're supposed to go Vault+Lotus+High Tide THEN go for candle untapping FOUR lands and then you DO have enough to spiral even if the Jewel is countered. If played perfectly could have ended up casting mentor and tide and tendrils after for the win
Thassa's Oracle is best with Doomsday, but I think it's also pickable with an early Brain Freeze. It's not quite as necessary because Brain Freeze is a kill condition already, but it gives you game against Eldrazi and the like, and some decks are pretty good at tearing through their own library but don't consistently generate enough storm to make Brain Freeze a reliable kill. I won't take it over actual good stuff, but I'm willing to pick an Oracle in pack 1 if I start out storm but notice that stuff isn't wheeling, as a hedge against kill-less combo. I also once had a deck with Birgi/Horn of Harnfel where my kill condition was Horn, draw 7s, Lion's Eye, Oracle, but that's definitely a corner case. Edit: Just got to the Brain Freeze pick. At that point it basically has to be Oracle.
While I love kitten, it's also a 4cmc card and you can only have so many of those in the deck. It's also less important than a lot of other busted cards he usually takes over it. Like, taking swords or vault or demonic tutor or even fury over it seems like a no brainer, and that's usually the sort of card he does take over it.
I haven't watched this video in full (just put it on), but reading the title is me hoping we have the return of LSV forcing Storm like in the old CFB cube videos
As I said yesterday, I kind of believe that first picking a Lotus actually decreases LSV’s win percentage because it tempts him into “after all, why shouldn’t I?” storm. Let’s see what happens.
Fantastic deck once again! No cantrips/tutors but the draws were favorable this time and led to some insane plays! There´s alot of enyojment watching you combo out againt average players in the mtgo cues but seeing you do it against the best vintagecubers in the world is on a whole different level! Good games :)
Remember the last fresh pack pick of tendrils but chat went so nuts on how lucky LSV was that he didn’t even play it. Won with some jank instead. “If you draw your deck, make infinite mana, you’ll find a way to win…”
I've lost track of how many times LSV's "lets start with frantic search" led to a winning game state. Hasn't happened in a while, but it's always fun when it does.
At 1:10:03 I feel like you just High Tide off artifact mana into Time Spiral, skipping the Dynamo. Coveted Jewel is already a good flicker target and High Tide is worth about the same amount of mana with Turnabout for artifacts because of Candelabra. Is there something I'm missing?
Came here to post this. It didn't really matter because he bricked that turn regardless of how much mana he had, but it definitely would have been better to high tide with lotus into the time spiral. You're drawing 7 cards and it nets 5 additional mana compared to dynamo which puts you down a mana. The way this particular game played out, it was probably better for LSV to have the dynamo in play, but he couldn't know he was going to brick that hard, so it definitely was the right play to high tide IMO.
I love these videos. I've learned a lot from you playing these insane storm decks. Do you withdraw your previous statement about kitten? It's insane in the broken decks.
G1M2 you mentioned that don't want to get Wandering Emperor, but your teammate had both wandering and resto, so no big deal in the end but most likely a missed attack there
1:02:14 "if he had re-drawn force of will, I was dead" actually that wasn't even true, look back at the game state at 1:01:46, you were going to have enough mana to cast yawg will, then RE-CAST coveted jewel from your graveyard. You were about to untap grim monolith, and you still had 1 black mana available from watery grave for yawg will which would get you a second grim monolith untap. That game was in the bag and you didn't even realize it lmao
I see the argument for go to the face with comet but he really should have killed Jace there. The question there for boros is "how can I lose this game". One way is sneak with double red (but he only had one) and the other is a discard outlet, a giant monster and a reanimation spell. If I'm boros and I'm certain that with 5 to the face I'm gonna kill them the next turn then I go for it, otherwise I kill the discard outlet.
1:10:57 could have gone manavault lotus cracked lotus for blue high tide use manavault and blue to untap all island floating blue and arti mana for jewel and have 6 mana for timespiral using hightide so you would untap 8 mana
Haven't seen a storm draft in quiet a while. although nothing beats when you stormed into siege gang goblin and seiged the win. Side note: What's the over/under of getting a Cheon co-drafter in one of these videos? That would be such a blast. I really enjoyed catching his stream.
I think cube would be better if everybody was offered the exact same 15 sideboard cards + your regular sideboard. And you can pick TWO out of the 15 cards everybody is offered for game 2-3. This would make it so unfair decks would have to work a little bit harder. Think that would be a great addition to how cube functions and help level the playing field.
Having to draft your sideboard is a good thing. If you just get bailed out by having a standard set of cards, it’s less fun. You see in the draft portion that LSV is often forced to choose between a narrow maindeck card and a good sideboard card, or a good sideboard card versus a potential hate draft.
@@Anusien Nah, there's not enough sideboard cards in the cube to begin with. You can't really draft a sideboard. You take a sideboard card only if there isn't anything to improve your deck. Oh no 100%, it's not the kinda card you can fit in any deck.
But the decks that can use it go from alright to insane the second it hits the field.
Favorite lsv draft archetype is definitely storm, especially when high tide is involved, so this was an absolute treat for me to watch. Thanks!
Opening a lotus every single time is actually really unlucky, as you get to have no complain equity!
This was a super fun draft. Thank you for being awesome and giving us this storm content.
When will LSV recognize that Displacer Kitten is his spirit animal?

LSV: "Hold my beer."
