Last week i was cleaning the attic and found my old Pharaoh instal cd after not playing for more than 15yrs! Decided to give it another go because I’ve never tackled the game, let along upgrade houses to palatial estates. Thank you for this video, yesterday after a few hours of playing the game I’ve had my eureka moment, after all those years!! Thx man!!
Sajuuk's Let's Play's Thanks mate, currently playing a custom mission and already got 12 palatial estates up and running. Was struggling to keep them maxed out at first but after some minor adjustments everything is in order. I’m ready with the monuments so now I’m trying to get as many palatial estates across the city as possible! Thanks again mate Cheers 🍻
Not fully explained in the video: Deleting the police station is okay after building the courthouse. Only one walker of that type is required to keep crime down, so after building the courthouse delete the police station. Don't skip building the police station in the early game on any block, regardless if you plan on building a courthouse in that block later.
Indeed, I've just never once had the time to go and make these tutorial videos. It would be great if I had the time but it would need some research to make sure I provide only accurate, reliable information. Maybe soon! :D
I strongly recommend doing that yeah! There's many things I explain in the Pharaoh & Cleopatra playthrough (the one done at Hard difficulty) that will eventually at some point, make their way into individual guides videos.
Sorry about that! Unfortunately, i ran into some technical issues and also lost a bit of passion for the game after completing it through on Hard mode. Additionally, the time sink needed to make the videos ended up being too much for the little time that i did have just making this video. Maybe some time in the future i can return to this? :D
Yeah, I totally understand that. I really am interested in doing proper guides just like this, I just need to thrash out exactly the subjects and to make sure I'm not posting misleading information to anyone as well.
@@SuperSajuuk thanks! I had no idea you could stray from the first boring statue pick. So much for playing this game for decades 🤣 You opened a whole new world of city decoration to me, thanks!
Hi there, thanks for watching! Yeah, I just set up the patch and it was working from the outset (use the resizer app linked in the description for best results), other than having to obviously select the 1024x768 option in-game to trigger my new resolution :D
Hi! It's not really a bug, its because the game does not separate luxury goods into two types, internally the game sees "any" luxury goods [whether Jewelery or something that was imported] as "luxury goods". Therefore, as long as you are producing your own, you never need to import them, since just opening a trade route and setting it to "import to maintain 0" makes the game believe that you have imported them. This is, I believe, something that will be resolved in Pharaoh A New Era when that releases, according to the developers.
We only know that Dotemu has stated the game will release this year [2022]. We have not heard anything to suggest that it will be delayed into 2023, but if it did get delayed into 2023, I would not be personally surprised at that happening.
Hi! They are part of OG Pharaoh, you can rotate them with R to get alternative designs [iirc Cleopatra might've included some more]. There's no real "modding" in OG Pharaoh beyond a few txt files for generic models [not assets], the event message strings and the music played per level/ambience.
@@SuperSajuuk I'm playing the OG Pharaoh currently and I don't have even half the statues you have avilable (Yes I'm aware of the rotating), it's why I asked. They may be from Cleopathra then.
Ah gotcha. Just wanted to make sure! I'd probably upgrade to Pharaoh and Cleopatra if you can, its available on GOG and Steam (though GOG version is better because no DRM and more regular sales) :D
@@SuperSajuuk I have the very old CD version of both, and that version from back then was seperate so even if I instal Cleopatra - it's not a DLC but a standalone expansion, aka things from it will still not be avilabe in my Pharaon game even if I install it. My uncle bough it for me back when it came out and I haven't played Cleopathra since, I never managed to beat the first mission (or figure out you can rotate statues) in it but I was like 8 lmao Thank you for answering me! I'll probably see those statues once I get to Cleo missions
@@KhadiPlays Actually, the Cleopatra stuff has a partial impact to normal Pharaoh missions: Bubastis and Hetepsenusret will have Zoo's [a cleo addition] due to culture changes. The tombs/predator additions won't be included in regular Pharaoh missions, but it does have impact to them ^_^
I can get palatial estates with great difficulty, but with a straight road structure as opposed to squared in yours and almost all videos. Whenever I try the square or rectangular road setting, I always get the problem of certain buildings blocking the evolution, which I never see in these videos. What am I doing wrong? For example your mortuary and firehouse are at most two three tiles away from one of the housings, if I did that I would get a block.
Hi there, thanks for asking! It sounds like what you are doing is placing housing within the inside of a housing loop, rather than on the outside and not placing enough beautification structures like statues and plazas to offset the negative desirability of certain buildings. If you're using gardens, I would switch them for statues. Difficulty also determines the impact of negative desirability as well. There's a really good community of gamers on Pharaoh that can help out on Discord, specifically GamerZakh's community (which I'm also a member of), so it might be a good idea to try reaching out in the city building channel over there where I can probably help out a lot better than in a youtube comment: discord.gg/gamerzakh is the URL if you are interested in asking there! :)
does the map change with the difficulty level? whenever I don't feel like doing missions I'm playing Sandbox but I have no possibility to build a pyramid (I play on the easiest level)
Hi there! Map doesn't change with difficulty level, but the custom missions does offer more than one sandbox type (the one called Sandbox is just a generic one with no monuments), if you scroll down the list of custom maps available, you should see sandboxes for all the different monument types available. :D
I don't know if anyone has this bug but I'm currently experiencing the problem of buildings not showing they have workers, like for example my fire station and everything has workers but the animation isn't there. Does anyone have a solution for this? I'm using the steam version of the game.
Hi there! This happens randomly for people, the only sure-fire solution is to just restart your PC (not shut down, use the Restart option). This appears to flush out the cache in some way that causes animations to begin working again.
Hi, Do you have an updated link for the widescreen patch? That one is dead. I found a patch (Pharaoh Resizer) which I think might be the one you used, and it works fine for most things, but not really for the world map. I don't have it centered like you do, instead it's to the left and duplicated on the right... Thank you.
Hi! Are you sure the link isn't working? I just tested it here and the file was downloaded fine, barring having to go through a RUclips "safety" prompt. Did you similarly get prompted by RUclips that the site "might contain harmful content"? 🤔 If it's definitely not working, I can let the site owner know, but for an alternative source that has the fully fixed world map, check here: sourceforge.net/projects/xjdhdr-random-code/files/Game_related_files/City_Building_Strategy_Games_Series_files/ (the resizer is included directly within the Pharaoh zip there) :)

@@armadildo6475 Ah I see, that was just more for design, not really efficiency. The map was largely played on Normal difficulty before I made this video so it was mostly fine (and I built up the blocks where they had so much food that most growth was thrown away. Plus I had a bunch of land farms off camera that substitued the farms. It just looked nice doing the flood plain farms that way (and yes I'm aware the ditches don't have to touch farms)
I always run into desirability issues when trying for palatial estates. Are statues really the only thing needed? If I build a mortuary that close to my house they usually don't like it. Sadly, the only success I've had is by building a temple complex behind the housing to achieve the desirability needed.
Yeah, statues are the best way of increasing desirability. Other buildings that work include the temple complex, shrines, the mansion and the palace. Also plaza’ing roads will negate some negative desirability of some buildings.
Hi there! Apologies for not replying to this sooner. Once a house evolves to Spacious Apartment, it no longer requires a constable from a police station to pass it. This is because houses at that level (or higher levels) do not have a crime risk and thus can't spawn any criminals to rob things. Houses up to, and including, Modest Apartment can present a risk of crime, which is why we only build a police station up to that point, and then replace it with a Courthouse, mainly because the Courthouse is required to evolve housing further. Magistrates also keep crime in check, but they're an expensive and large building to have in the early part of a mission where funds are low. Hopee this helps! :)
