When we went to visit my daughter last Dec we got up at 4am and drove to that very spot (all thanks to you) and she waded out to about 3 ft deep and found a giant horse conch in just a few min. Unfortunately it was occupied so back it went. She laughed at me all day because I was able to name most of the shells. Again, thanks to you! We stayed a little too long and got trapped by the tide so we had to climb onto the pier and then walk around the condo complex to get out.😏
Oh no! Well, at least you were able to leave safely 😃 And I have found tons of large, live horse conches and only 1 empty one so don't feel bad - LOL! I hope you had fun and thank you so much for coming along with me on my beach walks!

I gotta tell you this!! So, I live in Pennsylvania and usually go to Myrtle Beach where there aren't many orange shells. Anyway, I took my 9yr old and 5yr old to yardsales on Saturday and I found a HUGE wooden box of shells. It was 50 cents but everything was half off. I buy it for 25 cents because I saw some nice little orangies in there. When we got home I empties it out and there were TWO Junonia shells!! I think the neighbors heard me scream haha. My kids told me it didn't count because I didn't find them on the beach LOL
OH MY GOSH!!! That's amazing! Not just one, but TWO junonias? Good for you!! Those little shells are quite expensive so me thinks you won big on your yard sale. And I'm pretty sure you did find them - not at the beach but I still think it counts I love this story! ❤️

The first couple of days there, I found two (a 6+ and a 4 inch) gorgeous horse conchs - big ones for me - and tons of other great shells that first week. By the third week, it seemed like all the "good" shells were nowhere to be found. That was when I found the rose murex. You just never know what treasures you'll find. That is the great joy of shelling.

Hi Ilona! This little piece of beach really is a treat to go shelling at - when the tide is low enough! I was hoping there would be lots of shells there and once again this spot didn't disappoint. I just got back from Charleston, and let me tell you there were more shells there than I thought! It was a great week for orange/ dark shells! The surf broke up most of the shells but I was able to find a few limpets, colorful arcs, small drills/snails(they lived in the marshes), tiger eyes, and a few cool oysters! I was really missing those colorful scallops!!!
Wow! That is a lot of goodies for the Carolinas. However up there you can find the knobby and channeled whelk, so we don't get ALL the shells down here. I'm glad you found so many goodies on your trip!

I had no idea how amazing the shelling was either until I moved here. I would get excited to go beachcombing every time we visited the area to figure out where we wanted to move. Once I moved here oh boy did I become interested in the shells, and the critters, and the tides and the weather and I just couldn't keep all the fabulous things Florida has to offer to myself! I am not a fan of holding or touching the live creatures but I am thankful that you are and I am able to learn that way. I was in Mexico on vacation years ago. It was the last morning there and I got up early because I hadn’t had the time to shell. I just wanted to see some of the gorgeous different shells they had. I had my eye on a couple things rolling right in the edge of the water. I grabbed one before the water reclaimed it and I was ecstatic! (I still haven’t identified these shells but have a possible idea what they are.) I went to grab for another and I felt the slimiest gross thing 🤢 I think I squealed a little and tossed it right back in the water! 😂 I did end up with two beautiful shells but needless to say I am happy to learn about the critters from you 😄. What a gorgeous day in all respects - the sun, the gentle waves, beautifully clear water, of course the incredible shells and such a loving and informative narrator! Very interesting about the shells with too much pigment. You are the absolute best. Thanks so much for your wonderful videos. A Canadian follower. I live practically in middle, so far from the oceans. The only shells I find are zebra mussels, a nasty invader from ship's tanks. They have taken over the Great Lakes and many of our small lakes. The only good thing about them is that I actually go shelling for them to make delicate flowers. I can send a photo.

It's so great to see you putting back the living shells into the ocean. I was offered some shells on clearwater beach and was so shocked when the lady who picked them up, told me they are still alive and I should put them in vinegar to kill them.. I was so upset, that I reacted wrong and gave them back, instead of taking all and put them back into the ocean.. Its four years ago now and I still am mad at myself for that.. So thank you for being so respectful with nature and teaching so much about the different kinds of shells
It's a real drag that some people do not respect living creatures. I would like to hope that people just don't know better, but obviously some people don't care and will collect anything - living or not for the shell and that's a real bummer. I went to the Sanibel shell show and there were some specimens that were collected live and it really ruined the experience for me. Not all shellers collect ethically but I sure wish they would. I'll keep educating people and with any luck maybe change a few people's attitudes about these living creatures. Thank you for sharing your story ❤️
Such gorgeous shells! I couldn’t get over all the intense colors! It seemed like every shell was extra heavy on markings and colors. But that rose murex after the acid dip was off the charts!! Thanks for sharing!

What a great day! So many beautiful shells, such a variety. I love the FFC. The first time I found a live one, it came out swinging. I screamed and dropped the poor thing. I could run faster than it could, though, so I was safe.🤣

Ginger after my East Coast trip I HAD to find shells and this was the perfect fix. I am beyond curious if this beach will stay great all summer. Then AC's just rolling around and I'm still giddy over that rose murex. Fingers crossed I can have a repeat performance next month 🤞🏻

And I agree with those spirals - one of the reasons I really love those nutmegs I have one that's broken and you can see that awesome swirl and I keep it with my other specials shells - like my new rose murex! Next time you are in Marco Island stop by Ocean Soul. They have the most beautiful jewelry made with shells and sea glass. It’s worth a look. I think you would love it. They are at 740 N. Collier Blvd. Plenty of Parking. They have a website but they have a lot more in the store.

I have seen those shells in photos, but they don't live in the waters here in SWFL. You never know though - someone might have a beach themed party and leave a few at the beach 😅
Just got back from a few days on Sanibel and since the shelling was disappointing there had to rush home to watch your weekly video. Regarding your video: I have never found a banded tulip let alone a live one- that was wonderful! I have never found an alphabet cone and the ones you found were beautiful! The light colored moon snails are amazing. Congrats on finding a bucket list shell!!! P.S. Enjoyed your article in the last Beachcombing Magazine.
When I first started shelling I stayed pretty local and only went to Sanibel and Fort Myers Beach and maybe Little Hickory. Once I started going down to Marco - holy cow the banded tulips! For whatever reason that area has SO many of them. And once again that beach on the south end of the island was quite good to me - especially that rose murex. i so look forward to spending time with you here on the beach! last month my sister came out to spend some time in the pacific northwest with me so we decided to "hit the beach" here at ocean shores washington. we lasted 20 minutes before retreating inside the car with teeth chattering, soaking wet from windblown spray and rain. no shells either so we're talking 'bout a possible trip your way;)
What happens here is you get out of your toasty car and into the cold (there was a post-storm day I was out there in 30 degree weather) and you start to question your sanity. The wind is whipping and it's freezing cold and you find a shell. It's a decent one so you keep walking and find another. Then you see a critter. Then it's another shell and you kind of forget you were so cold to begin with! I know winter is best for shelling but I'm sure glad it's not like that all year!

When I was on Kice Island I set up my second camera so I could make a "sleep" video with the ocean noises. I probably won't add music (sorry!) but at least you'll be able to listen to the ocean as you go to sleep.

Of course I would probably pick up all the fighting conchs also. lol I take it that you don't need negative low tides to access that strip of beach? Thanks for this enjoyable video. It's truly the antidote to the weak East coast shelling conditions.
The tides need to be pretty low, but not necessarily negative low. If it is a negative low, then there would be more time to explore but since it was only going to about 0 I had to get in and get out before I got stuck! I'll be curious if this spot continues to have shells all summer long.
OMG the rose murex is absolutely gorgeous! Im so used to you finding unique and fun shells that your last video at the east coast reminded me of my sad attempt to shell over there during my visit to Florida and not having a clue on where to find shells. 🤣 Except you managed to find way more unique shells than I did so this follow up video was super fun and exciting! I can't wait to go back to Florida and because of your videos & watching them consrantly, I know where Im going shelling!!
Not all beaches are created equally! And in the summer it can get pretty sparse too, but at least there's snorkeling. Believe me, I knew nada when I started. It's a bunch of trial and error, nice people who give you pointers and a bunch of luck! Thanks so much for coming along with me on the more fruitful shelling walk!

This little piece of beach on Marco Island is really one of my most favourite beaches. The shells you have found here are so beautiful and there are plenty of them.

Hi Ilona! This little piece of beach really is a treat to go shelling at - when the tide is low enough! I was hoping there would be lots of shells there and once again this spot didn't disappoint. I really needed to find some shells after the week before on the East Coast 😅 My shell bag was indeed quite heavy - next time the hubby gets his own bag! Thank you for always watching my beach walks. I just got back from Charleston, and let me tell you there were more shells there than I thought! It was a great week for orange/ dark shells! The surf broke up most of the shells but I was able to find a few limpets, colorful arcs, small drills/snails(they lived in the marshes), tiger eyes, and a few cool oysters! I was really missing those colorful scallops!!!
Wow! That is a lot of goodies for the Carolinas. However up there you can find the knobby and channeled whelk, so we don't get ALL the shells down here. I'm glad you found so many goodies on your trip!

I absolutely love Florida and have since I was young. I’ve had the privilege to visit several times over the years. The one thing I’ve never been able to do is just spend a day shelling. I don’t think I realized how great the shelling could be down there until I found your channel. (I’m from Southern Indiana) Your videos make me so excited for the next time I get to make it down to your beautiful state. Off subject but 😄 your fingernails are always so beautiful too. I had no idea how amazing the shelling was either until I moved here. I would get excited to go beachcombing every time we visited the area to figure out where we wanted to move. Once I moved here oh boy did I become interested in the shells, and the critters, and the tides and the weather and I just couldn't keep all the fabulous things Florida has to offer to myself! I thank you so much for watching and I'm so happy you're learning some shells for your next trip to our lovely state! 🌴🌊🐚

I am not a fan of holding or touching the live creatures but I am thankful that you are and I am able to learn that way. I was in Mexico on vacation years ago. It was the last morning there and I got up early because I hadn’t had the time to shell. I just wanted to see some of the gorgeous different shells they had. I had my eye on a couple things rolling right in the edge of the water. I grabbed one before the water reclaimed it and I was ecstatic! (I still haven’t identified these shells but have a possible idea what they are.) I went to grab for another and I felt the slimiest gross thing 🤢 I think I squealed a little and tossed it right back in the water! 😂 I did end up with two beautiful shells but needless to say I am happy to learn about the critters from you 😄. Thank you again! I look forward to your next video 💕

What a gorgeous day in all respects - the sun, the gentle waves, beautifully clear water, of course the incredible shells and such a loving and informative narrator! Very interesting about the shells with too much pigment. You are the absolute best. Thanks so much for your wonderful videos. A Canadian follower. I live practically in middle, so far from the oceans. The only shells I find are zebra mussels, a nasty invader from ship's tanks. They have taken over the Great Lakes and many of our small lakes. The only good thing about them is that I actually go shelling for them to make delicate flowers. I can send a photo.
I've read about those nasty mussels and how they snuck in the ballast tanks of ships. Total bummer. I would love to see a pic of what you make from them. My email is swfbeachlife@gmail.com

It's so great to see you putting back the living shells into the ocean. I was offered some shells on clearwater beach and was so shocked when the lady who picked them up, told me they are still alive and I should put them in vinegar to kill them.. I was so upset, that I reacted wrong and gave them back, instead of taking all and put them back into the ocean.. Its four years ago now and I still am mad at myself for that.. So thank you for being so respectful with nature and teaching so much about the different kinds of shells
It's a real drag that some people do not respect living creatures. I would like to hope that people just don't know better, but obviously some people don't care and will collect anything - living or not for the shell and that's a real bummer. I went to the Sanibel shell show and there were some specimens that were collected live and it really ruined the experience for me. Not all shellers collect ethically but I sure wish they would. I'll keep educating people and with any luck maybe change a few people's attitudes about these living creatures. Thank you for sharing your story ❤️

Such gorgeous shells! I couldn’t get over all the intense colors! It seemed like every shell was extra heavy on markings and colors. But that rose murex after the acid dip was off the charts!! Thanks for sharing!

What a great day! So many beautiful shells, such a variety. I love the FFC. The first time I found a live one, it came out swinging. I screamed and dropped the poor thing. I could run faster than it could, though, so I was safe.🤣
They can be quite feisty those fighting conchs. Thank goodness you could run faster! If it makes you feel any better they are vegetarians 😂😂

Ooooh. Those banded tulips look huge.and you could make a very nice picture display using the horse conchs, from tiny to very big. And I do like a well trained husband!! Stay safe x

Holy cow!!! I know you guys have been getting more storms down there than we have. They did a good job of bringing in the shells! Beautiful nutmeg. Ginger after my East Coast trip I HAD to find shells and this was the perfect fix. I am beyond curious if this beach will stay great all summer. Then AC's just rolling around and I'm still giddy over that rose murex. Fingers crossed I can have a repeat performance next month 🤞🏻

And I agree with those spirals - one of the reasons I really love those nutmegs I have one that's broken and you can see that awesome swirl and I keep it with my other specials shells - like my new rose murex! Next time you are in Marco Island stop by Ocean Soul. They have the most beautiful jewelry made with shells and sea glass. It’s worth a look. I think you would love it. They are at 740 N. Collier Blvd. Plenty of Parking. They have a website but they have a lot more in the store.
They are currently working on some jewelry for me 😃 What they create is gorgeous! I'll be sure to share and give them the credit they deserve!

I wait every Sunday to watch your videos. I live in São Paulo, Brazil. it is a huge city, with lots of traffic and noise. So, when you post your videos, I put my headsets on and just enjoy the beach with you. I am also learning a lot about shells which is really cool. So thank you for your videos.
I love this! Before I moved here I was very used to traffic and noise and even commuting into New York City, so I'm loving the slower pace of Florida - especially the tranquil beaches. I'm thrilled I can share them with you all the way in Brazil! Thanks so much for watching! ❤️

I have seen those shells in photos, but they don't live in the waters here in SWFL. You never know though - someone might have a beach themed party and leave a few at the beach 😅
Just got back from a few days on Sanibel and since the shelling was disappointing there had to rush home to watch your weekly video. Regarding your video: I have never found a banded tulip let alone a live one- that was wonderful! I have never found an alphabet cone and the ones you found were beautiful! The light colored moon snails are amazing. Congrats on finding a bucket list shell!!! P.S. Enjoyed your article in the last Beachcombing Magazine.
When I first started shelling I stayed pretty local and only went to Sanibel and Fort Myers Beach and maybe Little Hickory. Once I started going down to Marco - holy cow the banded tulips! For whatever reason that area has SO many of them. And once again that beach on the south end of the island was quite good to me - especially that rose murex. Thanks so much for watching and reading my article in Beachcombing Magazine!
So very awesome!!! That rose murex is so pretty!!! I saw a vid of someone finding a giant blue Atlantic murex on the beach at SC. I never realized how many different ones there were!
Oh those giant Atlantic murex shells are SO pretty! I'd know one in a heartbeat but I don't think I'll be finding any over here. There are so many interesting snails out there and they sure make pretty homes. Thank you so much for watching!

i so look forward to spending time with you here on the beach! last month my sister came out to spend some time in the pacific northwest with me so we decided to "hit the beach" here at ocean shores washington. we lasted 20 minutes before retreating inside the car with teeth chattering, soaking wet from windblown spray and rain. no shells either so we're talking 'bout a possible trip your way;)
What happens here is you get out of your toasty car and into the cold (there was a post-storm day I was out there in 30 degree weather) and you start to question your sanity. The wind is whipping and it's freezing cold and you find a shell. It's a decent one so you keep walking and find another. Then you see a critter. Then it's another shell and you kind of forget you were so cold to begin with! I know winter is best for shelling but I'm sure glad it's not like that all year!

When I was on Kice Island I set up my second camera so I could make a "sleep" video with the ocean noises. I probably won't add music (sorry!) but at least you'll be able to listen to the ocean as you go to sleep.

Wow! Love those gorgeous shells! This would be my dream shell day! Of course I would probably pick up all the fighting conchs also. lol I take it that you don't need negative low tides to access that strip of beach? Thanks for this enjoyable video. It's truly the antidote to the weak East coast shelling conditions.
The tides need to be pretty low, but not necessarily negative low. If it is a negative low, then there would be more time to explore but since it was only going to about 0 I had to get in and get out before I got stuck! I'll be curious if this spot continues to have shells all summer long.
OMG the rose murex is absolutely gorgeous! Im so used to you finding unique and fun shells that your last video at the east coast reminded me of my sad attempt to shell over there during my visit to Florida and not having a clue on where to find shells. 🤣 Except you managed to find way more unique shells than I did so this follow up video was super fun and exciting! I can't wait to go back to Florida and because of your videos & watching them consrantly, I know where Im going shelling!!
Not all beaches are created equally! And in the summer it can get pretty sparse too, but at least there's snorkeling. Believe me, I knew nada when I started. It's a bunch of trial and error, nice people who give you pointers and a bunch of luck! Thanks so much for coming along with me on the more fruitful shelling walk!
