I bought an R1S, stainless steel, when they first came out. I haven't had any problems with it. No complaints, love the gun.

My R1 45ACP had all of the same issues you experienced. I polished the feed ramp and substituted for a 20lb recoil spring, and now it shoots like a dream. Thanks for the video.

Thanks for your post. I've had my Remington 1911 R1 Enhanced in 45 ACP for a couple of years. I'm very pleased with it. Mine holds 8+1 rounds.

    Great review!
    Welcome to the 1911 family.
The best test for a new M1911 is to shake it. If it rattles, it will run just fine.
The next test is to rack the slide on an empty magazine. If the slide does not lock, discard the magazine.
The only M1911 I own that does not work is an heirloom Colt Lightweight Commander Model of 1950.
It survived a barracks fire in Korea and was dug out of the ashes.
    Can't blame Colt for that!

This is a really good review of the R1. I bought the stainless one not too long after Remington started making 1911s again. Since then I've worked my way up the 1911 ladder to more expensive ones, but I still have the stainless R1 and love shooting it any chance I get.

Get you some Wilson combat mags for it I had trouble with my factory mags with mine. And that gun shoots as good as any other 1911 on the market.

Love my R1. Nothing upgraded, but changed the grip panels. I just made my furthest shot on target at 60 yards 2 days ago. Never have a problem. Outshoots my buddies SIG all day sadly.

I had similar problems up to 400 rounds. Then I sent it to Remington for their "Platinum Service" (included with the gun - send it to the factory within the first 12 months after purchase, with any complaints - they paid freight both ways) and got back a completely tuned gun. It is remarkably accurate and I stopped counting after 3500 rounds with not a single malfunction after it was returned. It may not be the most expensive but I doubt any are more accurate. Happy camper.

I have the same pistol and had feeding issues until I replaced the recoil spring from 16lbs to an 18lbs spring. I went with a flat wire recoil spring instead of the traditional round wire spring and in an honesty say that the pistol shoots excellent now.
I much prefer this American made Remington than the Philippines rock Island

I have 2, one is stainless, the other is blue, bought both new. I had one jam on the 1st or 2nd magazine with the stainless, no jams on the blue. Had the loose screw issue, fixed with blue locktite. They are a joy to shoot but I would recommend the stainless because of the rust issue with the blue. I would get the blue one parkerized if I knew of someone who does that work.

I had the grips on my Colt 1911 come loose after shooting it the first time. Probably weren’t locktited like your gun wasn’t either. Lok grips sells O-rings that I used on some wood grips on a CZ. Haven’t come loose yet!
