It’s 2023, am revisiting some of your old travels. I moved to Southern Florida in 1996 & it took me probably close to a year to really acclimate to that climate. I lived there about 5 years, fortunate to have lived on the water all those years; the biggest electrical storm we had took out two TVs and three phones ! The LOUDEST Thunder I ever heard! And in winter when it dropped down to 56 , it was FREEZING!! Florida cold is just different from other kinds of cold. You could ALWAYS tell who was from up North, they’d be the only ones swimming while the rest of us were in long pants & a good warm jacket lol!!
We are planning our first trip to Key West and just happened to come across this video. So much fun seeing a "younger" Kara & Nate! (We watch you all the time!)
Another cool place to take in the sunset is Carmel, CA. I met my wife online June 8th 2001 and we met in person Sept. 29th 2001. I flew from Seattle to San Jose to meet her. One of the places she took me to was Carmel. After the sun sets, all the people on the beach applaud and cheer. I asked my then fience what that was all about. She explained that it's because it's the best show in town.
Just an FYI that the southernmost point in Key West is for the contiguous 48 states only. The actual southernmost point of all 50 is Ka Lae on the southern tip of Hawaii's Big Island, which is at roughly the same latitude as Mexico City.
Blue Heaven is by far my favorite restaurant in Key West to go for breakfast (never actually had lunch or dinner there). I love to sit outside and they have chickens and cats just roaming around, yet it doesn't feel like a barn or dirty in any way. Its such a unique and amazing ambiance, very caribbean feel. And I am so happy to see that the tight rope guy (Mallory Square) is still there, well as of 2017 when you posted this video. I used to go to Key West yearly in the mid 90's-00's and I had wondered if he was still out there doing his thing. I saw him for the first time when i was a kid in 1995! He is an icon at Mallory Square.
Glad you went to Blue Heaven. When I lived in Key West it opened up and we never wanted to let the tourist know about it, tried to keep it all to ourselves. Of course word got out because it's so good .
Hey, so glad I found this video. Just got back from KW and just before we went down I booked this tour. Unfortunately do to COVID the Southernmost tour was cancelled but they bumped us over to the historic tour, I can imagine it was equally amazing. Such a cool experience and get to learn about local history that you wouldn't other wise know!!!
Kara and Nate, it's a pleasure watching your videos and I got to say I enjoyed the Key West videos, I actually know the owner of El Siboney and his brother who is a coworker, I lived there for a year, they have 2 Siboneys, the one you visited and another one in Stock Island, which is at the entrance of Key West. Great restaurants and great Cuban food. Trust me, I am cuban and I know food. I also tremendously enjoyed your Cuba series and I cried a lot watching you guys enjoy my country. Keep doing these great videos because I will keep watching them.
The music with the butterflies was matched perfectly! It made me smile and feel happy and wonderful, I just LOVE butterflies! Thankyou you so much for filming this, I would of never know this existed. I'm now adding key west into our trip to Florida! :) 🦋}!!{🦋
The best Chinese meal that we've ever had was in Key West. We were driving around looking at the houses and found a restaurant. Amazing food. Even the egg drop soup was something special.
If you make it to the Keys again. You should try Latitudes it is out on Sunset key. The shuttle boat leave from near the cruise ships. Lunch is best for the view. It is amazing.
Great to see another food tour pop up from you guys! Looked really interesting and we enjoyed hearing the bits about the history of the area. Nice vid! - Thomas and Sheena 😀
am I #1 ? love your videos so much....Im so jealous of your travels...I still want to take your Everest Trek...next year. Ive already talked to the outfitter you two used. Again...great work on the videos
Great memories. Very nice work documenting this in such a fun way. Loved it. Here's a fun fact for you. While you did visit the southernmost place in the Continual USA, the southernmost place in all of the USA is in Hawaii (near the equator ). 😆
Fisherman’s Cafe on the Bight, The Cafe in Old Town, Kermit’s Key Lime Shoppe, Blue Heaven, Old Town Bakery, Cuban Coffee Queen in Mallory Square and El Mason de Pepe would be my food tour.
The 6 AM flight from Key West to Miami was PBA's Cessna 402. Six seater unless ya counted the co-pilot's slot which I always sat in. One of the pilot's duties was to pick up a bag of Egg Mcmuffins at McDonald's before the flight. The lady that usually had that slot was a pilot extraordinaire. One afternoon she hit a pelican during arrival to Key West which busted her windscreen out. That is no good for aerodynamics at all. She put it on the runway like a pro with no one injured!
I see someone told you how to pronounce conch. Good job. Most places serve conch fritters with cocktail and key lime. Its a shame a few places just use batter with no conch. The conch shack across from Bagatelle does that so i never recommend it. Bagatelle has the best lobster mac and cheese! One of my high school teachers had a famous homemade conch fritter batter called George Mira's conch fritter mix. It was the absolute best but several places still have great fritters. At my high school football games a couple of families would sell conch salad to people in the stands. $5 for a bowl. Also you have to have a good conch chowder. Blue macaw is decent but you missed some of the best spots. Next time you're at El Siboney you need to get the palomia steak and the ropa vieja. I could go on a food tour in the keys for a week. Love my home town.
I've only been to Key West for a day because it was a stop on my Disney Cruise, but I would definitely go back. You have to go on the Conch Train, it's the best tour of the island. They are the best at describing the history of Key West and historical facts! Love Key West! Would definitely go back!
While I was at a book store in the Keys, the owner told be a weird local tale, and I read the book about them while I was there. It’s a rather macabre type weird story, about an older man who fell in love with a young woman from Cubs, that eventually died young from TB. He was so in love , after she died , he dug her up & took her body home, embalmed her, and pretended she was alive!! It was very creepy! My time there was back in the late 1990’s & I can’t remember her or his name, but it’s a true story..I saw photos of corpse after he was arrested… juss a lil local trivia lol
Ah we need smellavission that smells would have been fantastic and it looks like a bit of a battle between the Keys and Hawaii as they advertise the most southern bakery and that sort of thing on one of the Islands great editing and filming stay safe and only have one complaint no Chevy in this post ha ha
Hello Nate and KaraThe food looks delicious .I heard of this a while back and I am curious if you two came across a restaurant or bar that serves crocodile meat.
Do you guys tip your tour guides? And for the tours you get for free in exchange of RUclips video promotion/exposure through your Vlog, do you guys tip? If so, what's the protocol of what amount to tip?
As a tour guide, I think they should DEFINITELY tip generously if they're receiving tour tickets for free, but I'm also under the impression that they are traveling on the strict budget which might not afford them the ability to tip generously. However, If they're not tipping well (20-50% their ticket cost), I would hope they go out of their way to help advertise for the companies that throw them a bone---i.e. emailing the companies after they make a vlog with their content and tagging them on things like FB, twitter, and Instagram posts. It's just good business.
It hasn't really been the southernmost point in the US since Hawaii became a state, as the southern tip of the Big Island is farther south. So, they now call it the southernmost point in the Continental US.
She was singing this :Rocky Top, you'll always be Home sweet home to me Good ol' Rocky Top Rocky Top, Tennessee Rocky Top, Tennessee He said "You must be a Tennesse fan"
@AMERICA THE BEAUTIFUL! I first visited in 1998 and have been there at least 20 times. I lost track. It's been a while since I watched their video. They failed to mention anything about all the festivals especially the ones at the end of October or the inhabitants themselves.
If y'all are ever back in the Keys, I recommend checking out Keys Fisheries restaurant. Get to sit by the water with some amazing views. The food is INCREDIBLE. My favorite is the Lobster Ruben 💜

Crazy cat guy!!! He's a Florida legend. Everyone has a cat guy story. Mine was at the Renaissance Fair about 20 years ago. That's awesome!
We are planning our first trip to Key West and just happened to come across this video. So much fun seeing a "younger" Kara & Nate! (We watch you all the time!)
I love key West. I could never get tired of vacationing there. Can't wait to go back

The butterfly garden reminds me of when I went to one on Mackinaw island with my grandma! You guys have to visit Michigan someday ❤️
Blue Heaven is by far my favorite restaurant in Key West to go for breakfast (never actually had lunch or dinner there). His name is Will Soto
The butterflies on you two walking down street after leaving...I was like wait there is some ON you. LOL
Glad you went to Blue Heaven. When I lived in Key West it opened up and we never wanted to let the tourist know about it, tried to keep it all to ourselves. Of course word got out because it's so good .
I loved it when kara ran back to the camera and said "and there was cheese on it!"
Hey, so glad I found this video. Just got back from KW and just before we went down I booked this tour. The Butterfly Place is one of the main things I remember about my trip to Key West, that, and Ernest Hemingway's home with the six toe cats.
The food looks delicious, the butterflies were gorgeous and you ended your day with "Rocky Top"....PERFECT!
The bird and butterfly filming is gorgeous!
My wife and I just saw the butterfly sanctuary. Great recommendation!
I loved The Butterfly Conservatory. Could have stayed there all day. And love Scarlett and Rhett! ( the flamingos)

Kara is wearing the perfectly patterned jumper for the butterfly exhibit
The music with the butterflies was matched perfectly! It made me smile and feel happy and wonderful, I just LOVE butterflies! Thankyou you so much for filming this, I would of never know this existed. I'm now adding key west into our trip to Florida! :)
🦋}!!{🦋
Conch fritters are my FAAAVORITE!!!!!
So many good memories of eating Cuban food at El Siboney!
History with taste ! 😎 Loved the birds and butterflies also ! 😻
The best Chinese meal that we've ever had was in Key West. We were driving around looking at the houses and found a restaurant. Amazing food. Even the egg drop soup was something special.
OMG I saw that same guy with the cats ages and ages ago when my family went to Key West!! He is one crazy guy.
The wackos entertaining at Mallory Square never ceased to amaze me. :-)
If you make it to the Keys again. You should try Latitudes it is out on Sunset key. The shuttle boat leave from near the cruise ships. Lunch is best for the view. It is amazing.
the butterfly on Nate's hat though hahaha so cute!
Great to see another food tour pop up from you guys! Looked really interesting and we enjoyed hearing the bits about the history of the area. Nice vid! - Thomas and Sheena 😀

Just came across this awesome video. Looks like we are overdue for another trip to the keys.
We love Blue Heaven and love their brunch!
I want to go see the butterflies and flamingos! That juggler was amazing!
I'm so mad we missed each other! My husband and I went there in August of 2017. Wish we would have gone on a food tour!
Great memories. Very nice work documenting this in such a fun way. Loved it.

What a great tour! I'm guessing Nate is the one who shot the footage of the birds in the butterfly garden?
The funny part is that the actual southernmost point in the US is in Naalehu, Hawaii.
True, but key west has the southernmost point in the CONTINENTAL united states!💕
Beautiful butterflies.
You guys need to go back for Fantasy Fest. Very interesting !!!
All those southernmosts will be news to the folks in Hawai‘i. 😉
Bagatelle. I had a so/so meal there on the second floor balcony. Impressive atmosphere and view, not so great lobster bisque.
What's with the dude and the cat!!! 😂😵
was going to say the same thing! so weird!
God I feel bad for that cat! Lol
He's famous at Mallory Square, as is the acrobat/juggler
He's been doing that for 20 plus years. I grew up in KW and i remember him there since i was in elementary school. He is a KW staple.

Finally made it to Captain Tony's. Looks nothing like I recall.
Did you do the seafood or the nonseafood tour? I want to do this when we go :-)
The same guy was walking the line back in 1992!

Did you find the southernmost sign saying the southernmost something?
It hasn't really been the southernmost point in the US since Hawaii became a state, as the southern tip of the Big Island is farther south. So, they now call it the southernmost point in the Continental US.
Top Vagabonds (top 10 restaurants in key west) took clips from your video.

What did that man say to her at the restaurant when she was singing?
She was singing this :Rocky Top, you'll always be
Home sweet home to me
Good ol' Rocky Top
Rocky Top, Tennessee
Rocky Top, Tennessee
He said "You must be a Tennesse fan"
Yummy
Creepy cat guy 😮

THERE IS NOTHING! AhhHHhhHhhhhhHhhhhHhhhhHhhhhh
PLEASE spend more time in syd
I didn't know cristiano Ronaldo did tour videos
Been to Key West several times. Your video of the Conch Republic fell flat. It neglected to mention all the diversity on the island.
@AMERICA THE BEAUTIFUL! If you have to ask, then you haven't been to Key West.
@AMERICA THE BEAUTIFUL! I first visited in 1998 and have been there at least 20 times. I lost track. It's been a while since I watched their video. They failed to mention anything about all the festivals especially the ones at the end of October or the inhabitants themselves.
My mom worked many years at sloppy Joe’s
If y'all are ever back in the Keys, I recommend checking out Keys Fisheries restaurant. Get to sit by the water with some amazing views. The food is INCREDIBLE. My favorite is the Lobster Ruben 💜
I live here and I love seeing how tourists react to Key West. Also, Bad Boy Burrito is THE BEST, I eat there all the time
Moved here 6 months ago. Try not to see everthing, dont want it to get old. Pretty awesome place.
Everything was cool until the man with the cat. What the crap was that?
Nice vlog. BTW; you look just like Cristiano Ronaldo.

I sat at maybe the exact same tame at Bagatelle on a date when I lived there. :-)
Butterfly AVIARY
