I have a sample of this and just could never figure it out, either. This is the best description of this fragrance I've seen. It's amazing that back in the 80s all the EDTs had the power of current Rogue fragrances!
The tobacco is actually of the fresh green leafy type of tobacco that you don’t smell a lot of in perfumery. It’s actually got a very distinct green tobacco leaf smell. To my nose it’s the most authentic tobacco smell of any fragrance I’ve tried.
Thaaaat’s it I’m getting a Discovery packet ☺️. Your Derviche review piqued my interest too! M. Cross said that Coty’s Emeraude inspired him to create Derviche. My Mom wore Emeraude in the 70’s when I was a kid. I appreciate your associations of a “vintage smell”. Thanks Pep!
Thanks for the review. Your perception of Tabac Vert smelling like washed leather struck a chord, as Tabac Vert reminds me of a leather conditioner made by a company called Zanolin.
I got my sample kit recently and was pleasantly surprised. Some were hard passes like Flo's Mortis but others I quite enjoyed despite not being very experienced when it comes to old school scents. Fougere L'aube was very sexy to me and was an unexpected favorite. Champs Lunaires, Ishtar, and Derviche were also ones I liked.
great vid Pep. Early days for me with this one but so far so good. I agree Derviche is really good & to my surprise Flos Mortis grows on me more each time I wear it. Nice to see a perfumer say "FUCK YOU" to IFRA :)
It’s a tricky one for sure. I get dusty tobacco wood. A very classy, comforting, nostalgic scent. Reminds me of a library study, with varnished wood and worn leather furniture, dusty books, and tobacco-tainted fabric. There’s a pleasant, dry, green quality to the tobacco, followed by a powdery and musky effect that hints at the passage of time. Similar feel to Sartorial, sans the metallic, steamy hiss of the clothes irons and the dark sweetness of honey. The most surprising scent of the collection, and one of my favorites.
I tried this yesterday and was not sure about it the first 30 minutes. Then I started to get wafts of it in the middle notes and loved it. When the dry down came I was hooked. The crazy thing is I put the t- shirt I wore to bed back on today and the shirt smells incredible. It smells like a really nice soap on my shirt and I was not sure if it was from the Tabac Vert or from my shower soap but I have never smelled my soap on any other clothes so I know it was the Rogue. I think I am going to have to get this. I can’t stop smelling my shirt.
Rogue has switched to some Robertet & Firmenich offerings, thereby earning distributions in Europe. They have also taken down their anti-IFRA marketing pitch. The company insists otherwise, so I can see why some are still uninformed.
Pleasure to hear from you. I believe the changes happened in 2 phases. First when he changed from an Oakmoss from an unknown source to what was claimed to be a high quality Robertet one. That change is visible in the colour and pitch of the Oakmoss in Mousse Illuminee if you compare it with the first 2-4 batches. The second change came with the change in bottle size, since that is what is being distributed in Europe.
You gave such a reasonable visualization of what this may be like. I'm not sure if it's in his sample set which is on its way to my nose as of a few days ago (arriving today!). I will be reviewing the whole kit for late September on notetaking.blog - stay tuned. Love your description man!

Great review and I enjoyed it and I'm going to try it and have a blessed day

I have a sample of this but haven’t tried it yet! Now I’m super curious! Great description Pep!
Thanks Cherie😊
Hey pep. You described it very well. Stay safe 👋

It definitely surprised me of the initial samples i tried.

That's a great feeling
Derviche is my favorite too. Many from the house were too traditionally masculine leaning for me and others like Flos Mortis were artistic pieces
This is what im going to do with some of mine. No ifra compliance. To bring back that vintage fine fragrance. Its a great idea.
Looking forward to smelling them
Does anyone get a similar vibe as TFs Tobacco Vanille?
Not me

So does this mean they are making different versions of the same perfume?

@@supratikkundu6841 thank you for clarifying
Coincidentally, I'm literally washing a leather golf glove while watching this!
Must be a sign😁
Tfs

Is it more a Republican or Democrat type of fragrance? Its election year and we have to clarify the stance of this fragrance? J//K. ;)
Well i would never wear anything Republican, so it is Democrat.
@@TheScentinel Thanks for clarification. So, I reckon the drydown is quite progressive and you can apply it liberally :-)
@@TheScentinel Interesting response...what constitutes a 'Republican' or 'Democratic' fragrance?
@@charlesa3374 my response was not serious. Absolutely nothing in a perfume would make it one or the other.
@charlesa3374 also i was replying to the original comment which made it clear it was a joke.
