- At the 2018 edition of the Fire Island Dance Festival, Tony Award-winning and internationally acclaimed choreographer Christopher Wheeldon presented Us, a heart-rending and moving duet about a deeply passionate and turbulent relationship.
Tony Award nominee and former New York City Ballet principal Robert Fairchild teamed up with two-time Emmy Award-winning So You Think You Can Dance choreographer Travis Wall. The duo alternated between lifting each other up and pushing each other away, showing their conflict and intimacy through impressive strength and poignant physicality.
Once-in-a-lifetime pairings of ballet and contemporary luminaries, three remarkable world premieres, an excerpt of a seminal piece that changed the history of modern dance and unpredictable weather conditions marked this year’s sold-out Fire Island Dance Festival on July 20-22, 2018. The 24th edition raised a record $604,103 for Dancers Responding to AIDS, a program of Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS.
Dancers Responding to AIDS relies on the extraordinary compassion and efforts of the performing arts community to fund a safety net of social services for those in need. As a program of Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, DRA supports the essential programs of The Actors Fund, including the HIV/AIDS Initiative and The Dancers' Resource, as well as more than 450 AIDS and family service organizations nationwide.
Magický, dychvyrážajúci tanec .😊
This piece embodies pure poetry. 💕❤️ The music, the movement… You are transported to a place of beauty where you can feel the warmth of the sun, smell the salty sea air. Truly magnificent! It’s an honor to watch something so beautiful! 👏👏👏
Effortless effort!: even when one is lifted, they both are so grounded that is seems neither ever leaves the earth; and to contrast that with the elements of ocean/sea and sky real-time as a backdrop creates a particular mixture of juxtapositions that is memorable. Plus, if you are a sculptor here are innumerable "frames" for museum worthy art. Thank you for posting this!
Thank you for your description of this piece. Much appreciated. :)
Travis Wall is sculptor in motion. Pure magic.
Or sculpture.

Can’t help wondering if anyone has fallen off the edge of that stage into the water. "Where’s Esther Williams when you need her?
Is there even time to go to a dance festival when you're on Fire Island?
As Miss Piggy said to Kermit: "MAKE time!"
It was a amazing. None of my friends were interested at the time so i went alone. I was in awe the whole time. The backdrop of the ocean 🌊 and sky 🌌 alone. Just wow!!! Do it.

Who might the composer be?
Keaton Henson
I really think classic dances are way better...
Beautiful piece but ink ruins a body for me. Distracting.

Why to men. Why not a woman and a man. Good dance
It's Fire Island.That's why.
cause it's for a gay audience and why not two men? Two men can dance and be passionate together.
Fuck off Elizabeth.
@@michaellevesley3578 Why so nasty and hostile? She asked a legitimate question. What's the offense, because she naturally viewed the dance as unnatural?
@@headcoveredinchrist1998 listen, if i found it natural that someone with a disablility was infireor to me, would i be entitled to just slap them or something? Fuck no. There is never an excuse for homophobia. Finding things "natural" is just an excuse to be bigoted.
