I agree, i just swapped in penance of dissipation for my storm brand build (ralakesh charge stack hierophant). Not optimised for it at all and it still does tons more damage. Not quite one phasing uber exarch (and im terrible at the ball phase) but close. Might have to rejig it to be more focussed on penance woth some more duration, and somehow get the 100% activation speed in last 25% duration ascendancy points. It also trivialises sanctum.
Yeah, GGG has to do it that way because they have to assume 1) Every boss key that drops ends with a kill 2) Every item that drops ends up on the market Would be way better if boss keys weren't tradeable. They could make the loot better because the frequency of kills would go way down.

Is there some sort of trick to maximizing the skills dps? Like some cast speed and duration break point? My dps in better gear feels so much worse than what you have in this video.
getting cast speed makes both the ramp faster and affects your dps just like any other skill as it accelerates the activations its very important as it also accelerates dropping the brand its just all around more worth than on other skills because it helps you on 3 fronts but duration is the bosskiller , because lets say your brand has 5 second base duration and with your cast speed you take 3 seconds to ramp to 20 stacks : you get 2 seconds of 20 stack explosions on each activation now if you take the duration cluster and mastery and some brand duration and you get to 10 seconds : you get 3 seconds of ramp and 7 seconds of your brands nuking the mob at 20 stacks every proc

Yea, I am a penance brand enjoyer so ran it with great success in day 1, blowing up everything, now the gem is at 145c in sc for the base gem alone non-corrupted. Feels a bit like the good old days.
what do you think about other ascendancies for it? i have an inquis running it with rathpith shenanigans and warlock , damage is very good , crit capped without assassin's mark. But the ramp feels a bit slow even with cast speed essence mod on scepter and amulet ... and the support gem options for inquis feel SO bad , cant swiftbrand obviously because it kills the duration , cant penetrate , its a brand so no spell echo , cant inspiration as BM , cant arcane surge I just feel like while inquis' damage gets a bit toned down by bad curse options and support options
you can definitely start this on 1-5div. The only thing you need to start is the penance brand itself. Then you can build it differently. There's EB/spellblade, ralakesh power charge etc. Mapping is ok. Like 4/10 ok. I'm occasionally swapping to storm brand of indecision if I'm feeling bored with the mapping. Penance brand of dissipation really shines on bossing so we can just suck it up that ok mapping.
you just need the skill really. you can play it on a lot of ascendancies depending on the gear you have or what you like. and no , it doesnt map well the skill ramps and has piss aoe on the start of ramping. You should just use normal penance brand and swiftbrand as gem swaps for mapping, thats what i did to level , once i got to level 90 i had enough damage on the first hits of trans penance to not bother gem swapping : its not great at mapping but it shield charges/frostblinks to the boss fast and i use it to kill multi boss with maven keystone to farm special maps

Runebinder is a dps loss with penance brand of dissipation. The energy accumulates faster but the energy cap is not doubled so the final damage explosion is way lower with 2 brand attached than with 1.
quick reminder that 1x1200% is the same as 2x600%.With 2 brands both unload at 10 charge, rather than 20 so they release twice as often, resulting in more dps.
I thought penance brand of dissipation does not have a final explosion. It just ramps up damage based on energy, that's it. So runebinder just increases the energy accumulation rate. Or am I misunderstanding something important?
runebinder gives you frenzy/power charge ramping faster which ends up being more damage/more consistent than singular brand, specially in ubers because they have a lot of phases, 1 brand would need to be like 10% more damage than 2 brands to make it worth and it isnt, I like 1 brand for mapping though would definitely recommend

You can build it ZHP with just a 10 div budget and delete ubers.
Or spec it into mapping but might need to invest more into more defenses.
