Full scale flying delorean part 2: drone, doors, hood

- This is the second video of the Full scale flying Delorean project where I finish up some mechanisms on the car like the front hood louvres and automatic doors. I also build an initial test frame for the drone out of some spare aluminium profiles I had lying around from a previous project. weighing in at around 8-9 kg this frame will probably to heavy to carry the Delorean body but it's main purpose is to function as a test base to see if this configuration could even fly and find some initial PID values. The motors itself are way overpowered to lift the frame on it's own with each motor capable of lifting around 14kg. Another issue of this initial frame is the flexibility of the aluminium. When trying to yaw left, the left front motor and right back motor will spin faster, twisting the front of the frame to the right and the back of the frame to the left, making the thrust of the 4 motors point in the opposite direction of the yaw motion that was intended. the weight and twist issues will probably be solved with the next frame made from carbon fiber. Estimated weight for this would be around 2kg.

amazing video and as always great outro song!
Thank you very much @catalystbelgium2626, hope to feature more of your amazing content in the future 👍
Awesome design and engineering my friend. Can't wait to see it finished.
Flying delorean? I haven't seen one of those in... 30 years!
impressive build
minute 4:00 I thought it was the red car of Matt Trakker from M.A.S.K cartoons (in Germany there is or was, 'cause I saw his photos ten years ago, a M.A.S.K fan who built all the masks in a real size. Really apreciate people like all you, THE FANS, that came reallity a dream with much effort and share your art)
Flight testing around a bunch of very expensive vehicles with no tether - ballsy!
To be honest its a bit silly. There is bound to be a failure that will send it off into tge wall. There always is.
Wow. Just wow. Break a leg Dude !
Thanks man!
Could you build a 1:1.5 scale Cessna 182 Skylane using the same technology?
Without electronics, of course.
Bro's making the Deluxo from GTA0
LEETTSS GOOOOO!!!!!!!
tube to big , not rigid build , PID must be setting
This is RUclips, and yet you didn't include fake drama, a pretty girl, or a cute animal? How dare you sir! Take my upvote!
If only your name was Scott. Then I could tell you you're doing great.
When you become famous, will you remember me?
Remarkable engineering and fabrication, Brian. You have us all very excited. Wishing you the best success.
Thanks man 😁👍
This thing should do a FLY-OVER before baseball game during the national anthem. Lol or the superbowl
Heck yeah this is awesome! Can't wait for part three! I'm interested in what you ended up hard coating the foam in, what paint you used for the metallic metal look, and so much more. Nice work.
whats the price of hover conversion these days? I'll get one while picking up some dehydrated pizza and Pepsi perfect
_"Hoverboards don't work on water, unless you've got power!"_
Might want to buy 2 Mr. Fusions. Just in case.😁
This would be so much better with ion drives….
This is the greatest lost foam casting plug of all time.
I see what you did there...
@@ovalwingnut :-)
I’m just thinking, if a stainless delorean is cool, a magnesium one would be 1000x
@@bluewhaleadventures152 I like the way the "Whale of Blueness" thinks.. I'm not sure it would be safe to drive it during the 4th 🔥but any other day would be a blast (no pun intended). Blue, you R "amusing me". Which ironically is the word "MAGNESIUM" with the letters re-arranged - go figure! You RoCk! Cheers BWA152
Surprised you didn't use CF tubes for the hinge pins. Coulda saved another 100 grams there, maybe more?
Long waiting and welcoming ep2. lets go!!
this is absolutely amazing. I wish you well, Brian!!
How has this not got a million views!
Magnifique !!!! Will u set up neons for tunning ?
Hey Brian, blijft echt een topproject om te volgen!! Ziet er echt al super goed uit!!
Leuke video weer :)
Merci makker 👍
Nice!!! I really hope you plan on using a Futaba fp-t8 to conttol it 😂
if you sawp the printed frame joints for binding with carbon tow and epoxy -the frame would be Much stiffer but also lighter- even if you kept the alu box section
Thanks for the suggestion (and subscribing). I'm currently working on a full carbon fiber tubular frame with forged carbon fiber corners to keep everything together.
@@BrianBrocken your welcome Brian - im looking fwd to p.3
Awesome job, Brian ! Have you seen my jet powered flying Delorean ?
When does part three come out?
I'm wondering how much more efficient, and quieter, this could be if you could use Toroidal propellers rather than these standard ones?
I am following along for several reasons. Mostly I appreciate the skill with EPS. I have been utilizing this material for 40+ years. Try some Carbon tubing.
Great Scott ,This project is awesome 👍 hopefully finished drones will have ""Transparent Propellers"" in fact most outside tubing hopefully will also be Transparent , , tons of good luck on your cool project 😸👍👍
Thanks, the frame will be underneath and inside of the car, so out of sight. The propellers are concealed under the hood louvers. They only open for flight.
Over the past few years there havebeen many prototypes of drones big enough to carry a person, Who knows this idea might even catch on, once a full proto type is oneday made..
nice good work to design flying Delorean ... what type of motors you use to be strong to fly and what controller system ..?!
Deluxo from gta 😂
Very cool❤
Thanks!
If our scientists finally understood the nature of gravity, then there would be no need for such torment.
Masterful. My sole is flying.. I'm foaming at the mouth with excitement. So yeah, Mikey likes! Cheers from So.Ca.USA 3rd House on the Left (call before just stopping by)
WOW
That's pretty badass. Nice job
@@DeloreanRental thank you 😁👍
Any updates on this project? Waiting here. 😁
This is definitely gonna blow up Remember me
Are you going to make the remote controller look like the one doc used in the movie?
If you are gonna cover this in fibreglass be carefull on your choice of resin as most will melt the polystrene
Thanks for the heads up. I already covered the front louvres in fibreglass. I always test the resin/paints first on scrap pieces of foam before applying it to pieces of the car. 😁👍
Wow! Knap gedaan en super vooruitgang Brian. Kan niet wachten op het eindresultaat...
Bedankt Roel 😁👍
Man the waiting is brutal. Cant wait to see this thing full go.
I love this project. Very nice work!
Thank you for sharing this !!!!!
Awesome! Are you going to have fans under the tires with Neopixel LED rings to shine the lights down too? The scale is impressive!
Yes i do plan on adding LED's (not necessary Neopixel) to the car, similar like the one in the movie 👍
Needs more Jiggawatts
A gyroscope may help with the longitudinal stability. Very cool project, looking forward to seeing the end result.

1.21 Giga Watts ~ Great Scott !
that's an idea.. how about having a kite release so it can harness the power of lightning.. put a few chunky capacitors on, should work a treat.. :D
@@al3k Flux capacitors! 😄
@@AlexKall you know.. it only just clicked for me what those are, oh dear.... 😆
gnarly project
Wow!
This is amazing!
Finally next part
Incredible work, wow!! 👏🏻
Thank you!
Already too heavy
Step on it 😢
Can’t the propellers be on the wheels that fold up?
No, diameter is to small, also problems with airflow since the tire is blocking it. Would also have to transition from wheels down to wheels up on the ground to point the propellers down for flight which would need retractable stands under the body of the car.
This is heavy.
Amai, zeer knap.
Merci Nico 👍
yo
awesome!!!!!! subbed
Thanks man, much appreciated.
Why?
Why not?
YEESSSIIIRRR!!!!!!
Oh, to have money.
Now just upscale that to carry my fat a$$ and I'd buy 1 for every day of the week.
