Nice list. I appreciate the foreign and older films included. Recently saw "Benjamin Button" and thought it was a misfire. I would replace "Saving Private Ryan" with "Thin Red Line"and "The Shining "with "Rosemary's Baby."
I went into Benjamin Button almost cold, with little knowledge about it and expectations. It blew me away. This bizarre, strange, Twilight zone story surprised me in the modern era of copycat/reboot movies. The performances and atmosphere is understated yet moving with a still relevant message of the value of life.
I guess I understand- there was a lot of talent involved but like Forest Gump the story is just too tiring, long and borderline sappy for my taste.
Benjamin Button was seeing
make up artists at work.
Not interesting .

1. Lord of the Rings: Return of the KIng
A very balanced list, I always like when someone puts any of the lord of the rings film in their top 1.
Thank you!
Great list, my only *eww* moment was Gravity but hey, it's your list :)
Here's mine as of this moment, I added a couple of trilogies which is usually against my rules but I couldn't see any way around it. (not in any particular order)

50. Let the Right One In (2008)
Great list ! So many amazing films, some of them I haven't watched, would love to watch trainspotting and pans labyrinth. And I agree with your take on gravity, I can see why so many people don't like it but it was something unique and gripping for the first time I saw it, but after watching a certain more films it has been overshadowed but still a great film in my unpopular opinion.
A person's taste in films should be unapologetic, just one of those things that makes a person unique.
I watch movies mainly for suspense. Some of my fav suspense movies:
The Talented Mr. Ripley
The Silence of the Lambs
Rear Window
L.A. Confidential
Die Hard
Training Day
North by Northwest
12 Angry Men
12 Monkeys
Goodfellas
Day of the Jackal ( 1973)
Zodiac
No Way Out
Identity
Blue Velvet
Prisoners
Gone Baby Gone
American History X
I've watched 38 of the 50 movies. Great list.
Thanks

Tree of life is trash .
@@ritahorvath8207 I understand and respect your opinion, I think the tree of life is a very subjective film, it may not resonate with everyone but I really liked it's way of telling a story, with full of hidden motives and symbolisms, it leaves a lot of room for interpretation. It is like '2001 a space Odyssey' of the 21st century

@@thebadfella5296 Great film, probably it has Brad Pitt's finest performance
Airplane! Love it. Can't resist watching it again and again.
Nice mix of new and old. For the life of me I don’t understand why people think Social Network is some well done intellectual masterpiece it’s really pretty crap
Well I respect your opinion, but the social network is probably one of the best films of its decade, it has some of the best casting ever and has one of the most engaging screenplays. The main reason I love this film is because of its intriguing dialogues that never make me feel tedious after a number of rewatches. Apart from this it explores a lot of themes about friendship and loyalty.
The usual suspects, alien 👾, definitely missing
I don’t have a definitive top 50, so here's my top 37:
1. Back to the Future trilogy (1985-90)
2. Jurassic Park (1993)
3. Oliver & Company (1988)

35. The Dark Knight (2008)
36. Avengers: Infinity War (2018)
37. The Good, The Bad and the Ugly (1966)
Apart from some picks ,it's a very balanced list. I loved Monty python and the holy grail and Prisoner of Azkaban.
There are many similarities between our tastes but what a pity that I couldn't find any movie from Billie Wilder
I watched 39, not bad
No Jodorowsky? No W C Fields? No Cocteau? No Tati? No Woody Allen?
Thanks for the recommendations. Will try to watch all of their works, have watched one from Tati and one from Woody Allen. But there are still a lot to watch, will probably make a Top 100 after exploring all of those films.
The slince of the lambs the lord of the rings films Harry potter terminator and the rocky films dirty dancing and not forgetting jaws and any 🦈 films mama Mia films
.
Rocky I is a masterpiece !
♡
Good job, I’ve agreed with more on your list than most others 👍
Thanks ! Glad you enjoyed
Gee, where's "Mrs. Miniver"?
Haven't watched it yet
And Dead Poets society , Dr Zhivago, Casablanca, Jules and Jim, Gone With the Wind, Out of Africa?
I have made an updated version of this list where you can see casablanca in it :)
62%
No Fellini, Visconti, Bresson, Kurosawa..........
btw it's your favs. And why do people give Nolan that much props. He fools everyone.
Well I have made an updated version of this list, it has one film from Kurosawa. Fellini is great, I have seen three of his films and loved all of them, just not in my top 50. As per Nolan, I agree with you, he is definitely not among the best filmmakers but his films inspired me to take more interest in this medium as I watched them first, I think some of his work is genuinely good like Memento or The prestige.
No almodovar, no felini… no french new wave…
French new wave is a very important movement in film history no doubt, I have seen few of the french new wave films and quite liked them but they are heavily leaned towards the technical aspects, so they are not among my personal favourites. The 400 blows is an exceptional film though. I don't really enjoy much of Fellini's work but admire him for his challenging filmmaking style. You can check out the updated version of this list that I made a few months ago :)
@@experimentalcinema9352 yeah, I guess it all boils down to personal taste while acknowledging the artistic prowess the filmmakers generated
Elvira Madigan
Of all times?.i bet you will say all places. Jean renoir , par ex. It will be nice if you said your criteria.
Actually these are those films that are unforgettable for me... so they are personal choices. Well I have made an updated version of this list a month ago which is a lot different from this one.
Vertigo and Chinatown ended up in the 20s? And silly Star Wars was higher?
I agree with you they both are better than Star Wars objectively but Star Wars is more nostalgic for me as I watched it when I was younger. So it’s a bit higher
@@experimentalcinema9352 good bad ugly is better than persona ,tree of life and in mood for love
where's citizen kane , general, city lights, Its a wonderful ,life paths of glory, searchers, once upon a time in west and raiders at lost ark
I am from India but instead of pyaasa you should pick ray's apu trilogy or Deewar(1975)
@@RajeshKumar-wv5fp Yeah good the bad and the ugly is a great film no doubt but I still prefer persona and some other films over it as a matter of taste. But I was disappointed with raiders of the lost ark and yeah Satyajit ray is a legend, the use of music and cinematography in his film is beyond amazing :)
@@experimentalcinema9352 Believe me, Good bad and ugly is better than persona.
both were released in 1966
persona was an official entry for Sweden for Oscars
while TGTBATU is arguably the greatest films with no Oscar nominations.
in terms of any rating or any (i mean any great films list)
you will 100 % find TGTBATU above persona
Raiders at the lost ark is a masterpiece
great piece of filmmaking, great cinematography, great action scenes, performances, score, editing, depiction of 30s and its influence
how can you say its bad ?
it very interesting
only action film to be nominated for best film at Oscars.
as a matter of preference, it should have won the oscar
it was way better than Chariots of fire.
at last,
i am from India and believe me, here films are not any sort of great .
the only director and film which i like from India is Pathar panchali(1955)
Only India film to be nearly in every sight&sound 100 greatest films of all time
And why some films which i mentioned above is not here

Most of these films i really never saw and they probably are very good, But Godfather no1 should be no. 1!!!!!
How come 3 great Motion Pictures aren't mentioned: Like Gone with the Wind, Ben Hur, and All the Kings Men?
The Godfather is definitely great ! It's the definition of cinema. But I like persona a bit more because I really like Bergman's approach of storytelling.
